Standup Comedians

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Robin Williams isn't the greatest, but if you can watch this and not laugh you have no soul.

Perfect scottish impersonation. I've had conversations with scots like that in Europe, and its so true. The only words they really pronounciate are fucking and bastards.

Robin owns in that one. One of my favorite comedy acts ever. He does every major nations accent on that DVD.

Also another great comedian is Jeff Dunham. Anyone heard of him? This guy cracks me off. Here's a video:

Among one of the people he does a perfect impression of is Robin Williams , who I have always thought of as annoying and not funny at all. Apparently I'm not the only one , type in "Robin Williams not funny" in google and you'll get a lot of links. He just talks really fast about the most random stuff. This isn't funny. Funny is people telling jokes that make people laugh , not annoying "comics" talking really fast.

Ummm, Frank Caliendo isn't exactly the most clever dude there is. All he really does is impersonate people, though he does it quite well. You don't have to like Robin Williams or anything, but Caliendo is just as much of a one-trick pony as Williams.

Also, Willaims' Scottish golf skit: classic.

Daniel Tosh.

I couldn't remember his name...I saw his standup here and he is pretty fucking hilarious. He flamed a chick in the audience who didn't want him to fuck around talking about christianity and kept screaming "next!" to these jokes, she ended up leaving and being booed by everyone...good times...

Other than that, Dave Chappelle owns it all.

Why has no one mentioned Demetri Martin yet? Dude is awesome. His bit about mythical zoology is great. The paradoxataur, or the one that's half-lion, half-eagle, half-sheep (or something), making it an improper fraction.

Henry Rollins is hilarious as well, though I'm not sure if it technically counts as stand-up comedy, since it's always billed as spoken word.

And Jim Gaffigan is great, too. Check out his bit on Hot Pockets.

Surprised only two people mentioned Jerry Seinfeld. He's real funny, and then I'd have to go with my guy Dave Chapelle. He's absolutely hilarious!

One of the most impressive things about Jerry Seinfeld in my opinion is that he's not only been a master of observational humour when it comes to the little day-to-day things in life, but the fact he's been as successful as he has been and can get the laughs that he does working clean. A lot of comedians will, depending on the audience, use profanity to punctuate a joke or use very risque material and have been very successful with that approach which I enjoy as well.

Drew Carey commented in his book that when he was starting out doing standup he worked clean but found more success when he started talking to the audience like he did with his friends when they were hanging out and having a few drinks and suddenly found he was getting much bigger laughs. It all depends on the material of course but in an industry where a lot of the top acts do push the envelope with controversial material and use profanity as an exclamation point, it's impressive that Jerry Seinfeld is right up there despite having a more PG approach to his jokes and his delivery.

Just saw this guy named DC Benny on Comedy Central, but I only caught it in the middle of the performance. I found the whole thing on youtube. Pretty funny routine, imo.

Massive Bump and noted that Ryan mentioned him much before but I just recently decided to find out for myself how much of Bill Hicks Leary had stolen. Turns out a hell of alot. But what I found is Bill Hicks is truly fucking hysterical. I used to think Carlin was my exactly the way I think. After listening to Hicks, im them thrown into a blender. Being from the south like hicks, i relate to being a little bit higher mindset than most southerners. To Carlin due to the cynical jew... Time for some quotage.

A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fucking cross? It's like going up to Jackie Onassis wearing a rifle pendant.

"This is your brain." I've seen a lot of weird shit on drugs. I have never ever ever ever EVER looked at a fucking egg and thought it was a brain.

If you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, then go home and burn all your records, all your tapes, and all your CDs because every one of those artists who have made brilliant music and enhanced your lives? RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrEAL fucking high on drugs. The Beatles were so fucking high they let Ringo sing a few songs.

I was in Nashville, Tennesee last year. After the show I went to a Waffle House. I'm not proud of it, I was hungry. And I'm alone, I'm eating and I'm reading a book, right? Waitress walks over to me: "<smack smack smack smack> Hey, whatchoo readin' for?"
Isn't that the weirdest fucking question you've ever heard? Not what am I readING, but what am I reading *for*? Well, godammit, ya stumped me! Why do I read? Well... hmmm... I dunno... I guess I read for a lot of reasons, and the main one is so I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress.

Still, I recognize that Carlos Mencia might not be for everyone. His comedy is what we in the biz call “High Brow,” (rhymes with “eyebrow”). Mencia’s comedy is a little more intellectual than your Seinfeld’s and your Pryor’s and your Goldthwait’s. It’s cerebral. You might not laugh every minute of his standup, or even once, but that’s because Carlos likes to challenge his audience and make them think. All too often I’ve watched helplessly while some of Mencia’s golden punchlines sail gently above the heads of the masses, lost on them forever.

Aside from the well-known standards (Chappelle, Seinfeld, Carlin, Pryor, etc.) and the "he's dead so now we know who he is" choice (Hedberg) there have been only been a few mentions in here that I lik (Daniel Tosh and Demetri Martin.) I'm a total comedy nerd, so I'd like to help all of you out in the pursuit of funny.

My favourite comedians at the moment are Paul F. Tompkins, Jimmy Pardo, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, Emo Phillips, Patton Oswalt, Todd Barry, Doug Benson, Eugene Mirman, Sarah Silverman, Doug Stanhope, David Cross, Zach Galifianakis, Sklar Brothers, Brian Posehn, aaaand John Caparulo.

Patton Oswalt i'd consider pretty well known in my age group. Silverman's Jesus is Magic standup is hysterical. As for stanhope, after the man show fiasco, i'm scare to watch him.

Patton Oswalt is relatively well-known, but compared to the comedians I included in that "well-known" category he's unheard of.

I never watched Stanhope on The Man Show, but the man's act is so vulgar and un-politically correct that I doubt you were seeing anything close to what his stand-up is like.

And yeah, I guess my avatar disappeared. *shrugs*

Totally surprising article.
I thought it was pro-Mencia.
Unrelated article about Steven Seagal from that site.

EDIT: A quote from that Seagal article:
This is obviously by far the best occupation of any Seagal character. He's enjoyed sharing his knowledge of Asian culture and tradition since Above the Law, but he's never taught it at Yale before. Van Damme has never taught at Yale. Stallone has never taught at Yale--Stallone can't even spell Yale. Even our most educated action hero, Dolph Lundgren (who has a masters degree in chemical engineering and speaks five languages--no shit) has never played a professor at Yale

Did some quick search and the author indeed wasn't shitting:
Wiki wrote:A native of Stockholm, Dolph Lundgren is a graduate of the Royal Institute of Technology. He has a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney (1982), and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983 – but quit after two weeks to pursue acting. [2]. He speaks five languages: Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, some Japanese, and some Italian.

I think I finally found a role model.

maybe to you but a lot of people say hes funny. Hes funnier than Dane Cook. Everybody say dane cook is funny. I even watch some of his stand ups. I laughed a couple of times but not like when im watching eddie griffin. Eddie Griffin makes my stomach hurt when im laughing. Dane Cook is a dull comedian. I dont even think hes top 50 maybe top 100 :? ,but thats my opinion everybody doesnt have to agree with i said. Eddie Griffin is hilarious he doesnt care what he says. Thats why people might hate or maybe because hes a raw comedian.
