If the Lakers can't get Artest, then they should make a serious run at Posey.

Umm, Posey's not sure. If I were the Lakers I'd get Artest or Posey. Posey's just a more versatile defender than Barry, although Brent is a better shooter from 3-point land.

I read that Artest is thinking he made a "big mistake," by not opting out of his contract and really wants to be traded. The scenario I have been hearing is Odom for Artest and Kenny Thomas, Artest is a big headcase though, don't know if I would want him on the team.

Phil Jackson coached Dennis Rodman.

Dennis Rodman wore a wedding dress.

Need I say more?

That's an interesting situation with Artest. One minute he's adamant that he doesn't want to opt out then he goes public about regretting the decision as soon as he's let his opportunity to opt out slip by.

Andrew,

I agree with you about Artest. I doubt that the Lakers could get him anyway because he already made it clear that he was unwilling to go to a team that could only offer him the Mid-Level Exception which is only about $5.5 million.

if the King would take radman along with odom for artest and thomas, that would be a sweet deal for both sides.

For the Kings, they'd get a big guy who can handle and pass, seeing they have a problem with depth at the point. Radman brings some offense to the table that helps them when Martin is on the bench.

For the Lakers, the get to gamble on a player that could be a key piece or a bust. Either way, he is off the books next season. They can either leave him to free agency, or sign him up to something like $12M/yr. Kenny Thomas will spell that the Lakers might bring back Turiaf, an energy guy and crowd favorite. Thomas will do as backup for the meantime. But the Lakers would have to move him this season for an expiring contract. Otherwise, it could affect the Lakers' resigning of Bynum at this season's end.

well, I guess thomas is really the deal breaker here. An intriguing trade, but since radman was not figured in the trade rumor, I guess this is still very far from happening.
YEAH BOY!

Brent Barry has signed w/ the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets landed Barry following nine days considering their offer of their bi-annual salary cap exception, worth $3.9 million over two seasons.

I really wish he'd make new threads for each signing. Agree?

How are you posting from your position at the front of The Dark Knight line at your local movie house? Good wireless?

Maybe it's better this way. I think "small signings" should be all included in one thread. If not, there would be too many threads talking about players like Turiaf or Mason Jr (non star players) making deals with new teams

It's better to post how the Rockets signed Brent Barry (a star!) in a thread titled "LA Times article about Lakers"?

Since when is too many threads a problem on a discussion forum?

According to a league source, the Lakers already have contacted the Kings regarding Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom. As of Tuesday evening, the Kings had not returned the call. They are expected to insist on forward Kenny Thomas and his $18 million of remaining salary (over two seasons) being included in that potential trade. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the Lakers had called.

"Right now, (Artest is) just a terrific player to have on your roster," Petrie said. "I don't really have any speculation one way or another (about his future). We'll see what other things – not specific to Ron – but if there's some other way we can improve the team or change the team, we'll take a look at it."

trade talks here and there. i guess kings don't wan odom in return cuz they already know that odom won't be happy as a king.

as for james posey, there was speculation even b4 the finals that posey could end up a laker this upcoming season, and i think this'll likely happen especially after what posey done to the lakers in the finals.

If I was Odom I'd start working my ass off and trying to prove the Lakers wrong next season for even thinking about this idea and I would stop being late for practices and gameday meetings(Phil was complaining about that) and I believe he's really committed on being a Laker, he could opt next season and sign a smaller contract to please Andrew Bynum's wishes and for the Lakers not to start loosing their terrific bench.(we lost Ronny already :-( )

Who would even want Odom now.. After what he showed in last season's finals.. He's a talented player with great length but he showed his weaknesses in the Finals against thew Celtics.. He was eaten alive by Kevin Garnett.. And he made bad decisions.. And was totally unproductive in the final minutes of the game..

Artest would be a great fit for the Lakers, despite his attitude problems.. I think playing with Kobe and playing for Phil is enough for him thinking about a championship.. Hope Posey would remain as a Celtic..

Too bad LAL faced Boston in the Finlas.. LOL :D

I guess it's hard for some people to see the connection.

I think Posey would fit the Lakers better then Barry would. It'd be pretty interesting if both teams made the finals again, this time with Posey playing for Los Angeles.

have you read the article?? It was about the Lakers having interes in Brent Barry, so I think he's just saying that the Lakers has now lost interest for Barry now that he's a Rocket.. But it's better to make a thread for that one..

Agreed, a Lakers thread with a Rockets signing, nice.

Unfortunately the time for me to wait in line hasn't arrived yet, the movie releases on the 23rd here for us. Dumbasses need to translate the whole movie in Dutch so that the Dutch have subtitles to read during the movie. Sadness.

I <3 Amsterdam IMAX.

Uhm, I'd be sad to see Odom go, despite him disappearing in the Finals.

I guess it is hard for some people to realize that if someone comes to the forum wanting to talk about Brent Barry's blockbuster signing with the Rockets, he is not going to look in a thread titled LA TIMES ARTICLE ABOUT LAKERS for such discussion.

When I visit NBA Talk or the new post listing, I have no clue what this thread is about. I have no idea that Brent Barry, nor James Posey is even mentioned in it. Let alone do I know that this is where the Brent Barry signing with Houston has "been posted."

I guess I should bump the Spurs-Lakers thread since Barry is mentioned in that too. There's a connection after all! Maybe I can scrounge up the old 1996 dunk contest thread?
