Why increase the number of CAPs????

Postby Loyal2Live on Sat Jun 14, 2008 12:08 am

I've read these forums for years, but never joined because most of you are playing and discussing the PC version. I woud like to thank the moderators for including a section about consoles, which is what the majority of Live fans are playing.

I see that a lot of you are suggesting adding more CAPs to the game. WHY? First off, if you enter dynasty mode and try to do a fantasy draft, the computer never drafts your players. They just sit in free agency for years. Secondly, who the hell actually creates 50 people and if you did, whats the purpose of having a Kobe, or D-Wade or Lebron? I mean, 50 is quite enough. Finally, the CAPs are not really where they should be anyway. It would be much better to be able to further customize the CAPs rather than having more of the them. Obviously, there should be more hairstyles...more tattoes (or at least different ones), more accessories....and maybe even have the ability of a CAP to have a "go-to-move" (or least earn one). As far as CAP, lets upgrade what we have instead of trying to get more. Just a thought

Welcome to the Forum. :) We don't actually have console specific sections anymore though, the NBA Live 09 section is just that way by default since there won't be a PC release. If there was, this section would cater to that platform as well.

The desire to have more CAPs is two-fold: first of all, it ensures that anyone maintaining an unofficial roster update can create all the missing players that didn't make the roster cutoff. Second, it would allow the creation of custom rosters (such as historical teams) which is something that's always been feasible with the tools we have at our disposal for the PC version but has never been feasible with the console versions.

I'm sure most people would also like to see the Create-a-Player options expanded as well, not just an increase in the amount of players that can be created. I can't imagine that allowing for more CAPs would adversely affect the ability to enhance Create-a-Player or any other aspect of the game.

Thanks for responding, man. Also, you're insight over the last few years regrading Live has been on point.

Well, since there is not going to be a PC release this year can we consider have console sections again? It seems as though you guys actually have a little "clout" with the EA people and the wishlists that are submitted cater to the PC users, but again, most fans of the game are playing on consoles. So, some of the changes that are being suggested would not benefit anyone with say a XBOX 360. Last question. Which do you play more often the 360 (or any console) version or the PC?

I used to have a 2k7 roster that have over 101 custom teams with historic and olympic teams, it was by far some of the most fun I had playing a game. I love custom teams and I attempted to make a legendary roster which is available on my EA locker (xbox) under this name. I did create 50 players and it wasn't difficult or a as annoying as it seems. I knocked off 5 a day and kept it going for 10 days, each day working on a different team and spending not much more than 30 minutes on it. I dont see why it would hurt to have this feature expanded to more than 50 players...they shouldn't have to limit anything else to do it.
Opinions are my own.

Ok lets say it is expanded...to say 200. Then you want to start a fantasty draft dynasty with your CAPs included. What good would it do to have 200 CAP free agents that the computer never signs.

However I do agree that historical teams/players are great. On the 360 version I have created "legends" and teams, played with them and still having a good time...so like you said if they don't have to limit anything else to increase the number of CAPs then fine. But I think according to the interview with Brian U, memory limitations have prevented this.

Which I'm not buying because of 2k8 with its 200+ CAP limit. With 200 CAPs we could create full historic teams for each team in the league. Hell, we could make the correct national teams. Logos and stuff wouldnt be correct on all aspects but it would still be enjoyable for me. Is it the most needed feature for 09? No, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to have it included.

yeah this was possible through editing files and putting it on your xbox 360 right? I played a guy that had edited online rosters on my ps3. he played as boston but had Timberwolves players like Madsen and McCants on his team. funny he didn't put KG on the team for some reason.

when i went back to the lobby people complained that he used "cheap" teams against them like the 2000 Lakers or something

There's no point for NBA Live 09 since NBA Live 09 sections will be catering to a console release by default. Also, when we had the console sections most people wouldn't post in them anyway so it became easier not to bother having seperate sections for PC and console.

I know what you mean about the Wishlists, being a site that has historically focused on the PC version we have tended to think about it first. However, with the NBA Live 09 list we were going for things we'd like to see in NBA Live, regardless of platform. We did throw a few PC specific items in this year but for the most part this year's list was intended to cover all platforms.

I still prefer the PC when it comes to NBA Live because of our modding culture, though I expect I'll be playing NBA Live 09 on the 360 later this year. It would be great if we could feasibly bring some of that modding culture to the consoles.
