does it matter?..it's the finals..there should be no excuses..

Lean wrote:That KG putback slam was classic. The game went as close as hell. Very very nice Finals opener.

My only concern is our local commentators that is supposed to be "in-the-middle" of the teams but really is aligned with the Lakers (not because I'm against the Lakers, but that's their job, to be unbiased).

EDIT: That ovation on Pierce's return on the bench was spine-chilling.

No..a big no..it's too obvious that our commentators is for the celtics!..chino trinidad's favorite player if you're already watching basketball since you're a kid is ray allen and quinito's fave is Lebron and he hates kobe..

nice grammar..... :D anyways, u never ever ever count out a team that has a player of kobe's skill..... anybody remember 2006 finals and a 2-0 deficit faced by a certain team???

If the Lakers will not win the next game, the series is over. (What's wrong..well if it is, can you rephrase it for me..)

Don't you guys have cable? It's good that I get to listen to none of those two fools.

Paul Pierce doesn't want an MRI
But Pierce has not undergone an MRI and has no plans to do so until the Finals are over. He doesn't want to know exactly what's wrong with him, because a diagnosis he doesn't like could end his series, and his season, early.

So, Pierce doesn't want to know if his knee has structural damage. He just wants to know that he step out onto the floor Sunday night.

i thought the "injury" seemed a little too convienient. why not do this in game 6 or 7 if you are going to feint an injury just to spark the crowd when you limp back to the court? its not as if too much is on the line in game one.... so, i dunno... if pierce was faking it, it was bad timing. if he wasnt, i hope that he is ok for game 2. great game.

To be honest for me KG was struggling all the time.. He takes some bad jumpers.. They dosn't drop for it, but he continue to go for them :shake: Exept his Put back slam, the backcourt save and the good deffensive totals, he didn't play well for me.. Rajon Rondo was the guy who deserv the credts.. He made a lot of good shots, which helped Boston to left in the game in the First half(Secon Qrt)
Also Brown deserv a big credit..He was doing awesome deffeniceve job..!!!
Ray-Ray after Paul hurt I tought that he will take the game in his hands, but no.. Keep stuggling..
Paul Pierce... (Y)

I should've known the accusations about Paul Pierce faking an injury would start flying about, even Phil Jackson has been bleating about it. Tell me, Kobe didn't seem to be slowed by his "back problems" at the tail end of the Utah series and against the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. Was he feigning an injury too?

Perhaps the comparison was a bit much given that Willis Reed's injury was much more severe while the outcome of Pierce's collision with Perkins wasn't as serious as it first appeared but hey, this is what happens in sports. If Kobe had a huge game while suffering from the flu, he'd be compared to Michael Jordan. When there are similarities, comparisons will be made. That's just the way it is.

And let's assume for a moment it was an act by Pierce. What kind of gameplan is that for one of your best players to leave a tight game for a few minutes? Whatever emotional edge it may give his team upon his return could have easily been negated by a huge deficit run up in his absence. Clearly, his injury is not as bad as it first appeared but that doesn't mean he was faking it. Sometimes you can walk off a mild sprain and that seems to be what happened.

That is lame, if he's just finding a way to rest. An injury can be more painful the day after.

So maybe Isaiah Thomas faked his injury too when he played the fourth quarter injured and scored 25 points in that Finals series that I can't remember when?

And about our local commentators, that's just how I felt. Like, Kobe was held down to 9 for 24 (was it?) shooting, and still Henson said "Who can stop Kobe Bryant?" in a Michael Cole-ish tone. Maybe they're doing it because most Filipinos love the Lakers.

Maybe Henson was referring before the Finals. Damn i also hate it when Filipino commentates NBA games. I like it more when they commentate our own Filipino league games

Screw them both. I can't hear the crowd when sumthin good happens.

Btw, where do you watch them on cable? ESPN was on some X-Games (I'm not sure) crap at that time.

I watched it on Basketball TV.

It broadcasts the game the same time RPN 9 does but without them blabber mouth commentators. I changed the channel to RPN just to see the difference and those idiots talk even during the player introductions, assholes.

anybody who thinks Pierce is not injured is an idiot....there is a thing called adrenaline, & it allows you to play through injury....although once adrenaline wears off then the injury comes to light....I'm sure we've all been in the situation in each of our basketball lives where we have sprained an ankle & had to go off, but due to nature of the game, we got back on & play through it....once the game is over, you get home & finally take off your shoe, your ankle is very swollen & you can't walk the next day, & it troubles you for 4-6 weeks & you have to strap it for each week's game....yep, that's faking an injury because you could go back into the game shortly after

I don't know how bad Pierce's injury is, I just hope he doesn't cause long term damage by continuing to play in the series....I guess he doesn't want MRI as he doesn't want to hear bad news & that he shouldn't be playing....am interested to see how much effect Pierce's injury will have on the series now that the adrenaline is gone....

Andrew, I like you Bird vs Pacers comparison rather than the obvious Willis Reed ones (Y)

Destiny Cable > Sky Cable because they have BTv.

I frkn hope Lakers would take advantage on Pierce's injury - fake or not. I can't wait for them to play on Staples'.

Just to add my two cents to the Pierce injury debate, what good would it serve him to fake an injury and come back? To get the crowd going? They were already well and truely into the game. To inspire his teammates? Garnett, Allen and Rondo were already playing well.

But in fairness, Kobe got the same criticism earlier on in his career in a playoff series against Portland (in either 2001 or 2002) when he hurt his back and Scottie Pippen said he was trying to be like Jordan. It's pathetic, but I expect no better from alot of the fans.

That was kickass, what would've been more kickass is the latter part...Magic Johnson's face changed to Kobe's and Larry Bird's changed to Paul Pierce. :) (Or Brian Scalabrine if that makes for easier morphing.)

I agree, though in defense of the 2-3-2 format the home team has only won all three of those games twice - Detroit in 2004 and Miami in 2006 - so while it defeats the purpose of homecourt advantage for the team with the best record it hasn't really benefited the home team in those three games either.

my point is you dont have to win all 3 games, if you can manage a split in games 1 and 2 and then split 3 and 4, you get that huge game 5 back at home. really you only need 2 of the 3 if you can manage a split

Absolutely, it kind of defeats the purpose of having homecourt advantage when you have to play three straight games on the road. I guess the reasoning behind keeping the 2-3-2 format (now that travel presumably isn't an issue) is that any team truly good enough to win it all is capable of winning on the road and would benefit more from having those two games at home to finish the series if needed.
