Obama vs. McCain

Postby BIG GREEN on Thu Jun 05, 2008 11:37 am

Unless you've been living under the proverbial rock you know that us democrats have our nominee. He is now the first ever African-american major party nominee in American history. I expect the largest showing of voters in US history and I thuroughly hope that Barack becomes our new leader barring a successful asassination attempt (many will be attempted). It would certainly help if he names Hillary/Bill as his running mate. I don't think this country can survive another Bush term as McCain seems to have the exact same opinions and policies as the current president. It's time for a change and it's time for America to once again garner some respect from the world and for this recession to end.

Did Hillary actually drop out? I was watching the news today and heard if she doesn't drop out, Obama can't technically be considered the democrats' nominee.

I know the article says she'll suspend her campaign on Saturday, but does that mean she'll end her race (drop out) on Saturday or did she already drop out?

May be a stupid question but I don't know anything whatsoever about US politics.

she supposedly will wait til the end of the week, but it doesn't matter. Obama already has enough votes to get the nomination.

I can't wait until benji shows up, and talks about how a Dick-tatorship would be better than an Obama presidency.

Isn't Hillary using her campaign and her votes as a bargaining chip to put pressure on Obama in taking her as vice president? There's talk about that, but I have no clue if that's the case.

it's time for America to once again garner some respect from the world and for this recession to end.

Lulz, when have the chattering classes ever respected America? And when did this recession start? When GDP growth has never become negative since 2001?

Of course she'll "suspend" her campaign, there are no more primaries, thus no "campaign." Obama is only the nominee if Hillary cannot find a way to deny him at the convention.

Sauru's sentiments are all too right (although I quibble with his implication that there were ever "good" candidates...especially in the modern era) and both will continue this country down the same path. Obama offers it tommorrow, Johm McCain will give it to "[his] friends" next Tuesday.

They both despise the Constitution. Both are moralistic authoritarians wishing to be treated as our political saviours. Both have media-constructed personas ("Messiah" vs. "Maverick") that have created cults of personality around them. Obama is clearly a massive idiot, right? (Just imagine if Bush said the things he does...57 states, ten thousand dead, "states in the middle", etc.) Neither Obama, nor Johm McCain have any intention to save us from such debacles and crimes as Social Security and its ilk.

Johm McCain is better because he wants to cannibalize us less and feigns desiring to reverse that, he also seems to better understand that actions have consequences. But that's not a reason to support him or encourage increases in his power.

I certainly hope Obama wins this. He'll obviously not be able to live up to all the promises made, but he'd still be a gazillion times more efficient than that old fart. Hopefully Americans will not repeat the same mistake.

That's what makes him scary incompetent, unlike the Junior Senator from Massachusetts who was just laughably incompetent.

What exactly is he promising?

Not quite sure I understand. From the failed class of 2008? From history?

I'm pretty sure you know exactly what he's promising as far as social security, healthcare, homeland security, etc., no need to test us.

I'm interested in what other people think he's promising. All I hear is more and more cannibalization and Constitution shredding.

No, it's more about the "Constitution shredding" that seems like a leitmotiv with you when referring to any Democrat candidate.
That or "neo-fascim"...Just a deja vu.

Not my fault more Democrats do it than Republicans (99.9% vs. 99.5%...every single primary Democrat, while Republicans had Thompson and Paul).
it's more about the "Constitution shredding" that seems like a leitmotiv with you

Get them to stop doing it and I'll stop talking about it.
