Transparent portrait

I'm making my own portrait but the background of the picture is white not in transparent. the picture is saved as .png file format.. how can i remove the white background on the portrait...

Save as a DDS Format, and make sure you erase the white with eraser.

since it was saved as a .png image, i don't see any reason why the background wouldn't be transparent..are you sure when you made the portrait (i'm assuming you used photoshop)..you made it with the background transparent?..

magic erase it on photoshop then save as .png
