Problem with gamepad

When I plug my generic gamepad into the usb port of my PC, the NBA 08 doesn't recognise it. However, I'm fairly sure there's nothing wrong with the gamepad, as it works perfectly for pro evo.
How can I fix it?

when you go to a regular game, be sure that when you assign your controller to a team, that you click the controller and change the name to your controller.

Otherwise, don't know what to tell you.

If all else fails I'd recommend reinstalling the drivers for your gamepad, or NBA Live 08 itself.
