Doug Collins is a good coach. He's good with young players and can help out a young team like the Bulls. In Washington he really got into a bad situation with Michael Jordan thinking he could still play, but i think he will be a good fit in Chicago.

I'm gonna miss him on TV though, him and Hubie Brown are the top color-commentary guys in the NBA.

I think Collins would do good with the Bulls, and I hope this will be pulled. The Bulls will most likely be a top team in the NBA next year with the 1st draft pick.

thank god. get him off the air. I found him to be very irritating. especially with him every telecast saying oh I coached michael in chicago, grant hill in detroit and various other players when they're playing like Larry Hughes & Lindsey Hunter.

Hahaha, yeah the constant reminders of his great players he had are annoying, but some coaches quite honestly don't have a clue what their talking about on the air, so thats a positive for Collins.

well Hubie's the best of them in my opinion. his knowledge of the game is second to none. JVG is hilarious when he's paired with Mark Jackson. Even Fratello's pretty decent, even back in the day when he was with Marv & JVG. so I don't know which caoches you're talking about.

What is this? Back to the future?
Randy - 'Did you know Earl that before we was humans we was monkeys?'
Earl - 'Hmmm, What were we before we were monkeys?'
Randy - 'I don't know...I don't even remember being a monkey'

Good addition to the discussion. (Y) (Y)

I'm surprised they didn't pick Avery Johnson. Best of luck to the Bulls. Back into the 4-7 spot they go.

Well i figured rather than quoting memes and myths that seem to be so common (like his turnaround in the first season of every team he's coached) I'd take time to research and find out a little more about the guy. However apparently that's not considered valid. Its not an important decision, but this is a basketball forum. What is there to do besides discuss it? I posted the story quickly in order to inform those who may not check espn every 3 seconds. I have also had a real life today doing things such as practice, laundry and hanging out with friends. I apologize that I havent had time to do aforementioned research yet.

OMG REAL LIFE THINGS! I couldn't care less. You say it's not an important decision, but yet you have to research before coming to a decision over whether it's a good move or not for Chicago?

Time will tell if it's a good fit or not but I do like that they're going with a more experienced coach over some of the other rumoured candidates such as Eric Snow and Jeff Hornacek. I know that's making an assumption about their abilities but the guy with the proven track record still seems like the safer pick as you can see what he's accomplished as a head coach and have a better idea of what you're getting with him at the helm.

I wonder if they offered Avery Johnson the job and he turned it down. It's just a thought. I think Collins would be a great fit in Chicago because he is almost the complete opposite of Skiles (who was not successful despite the talent at the Bulls). One other side note is Collins came to Washington when they had the number 1 pick and things didn't work out too well with Kwame. Now I'm aware that not even Phil Jackson could get this guy to be a consistent performer, but it will be worth keeping an eye on.

Maybe they did, he was reportedly close to signing a deal but then again his interview with Paxson was supposedly not rescheduled so who knows how close he was to taking the job.

From the second link Andrew posted:
Roughly 17 hours after being arrested and charged with misdemeanor drug and alcohol offenses, University of Florida police issued two traffic citations to Joakim Noah on Sunday.

Noah, who attended the Gainesville school, received citations for driving with a suspended license without knowledge and for not wearing a seat belt.

Noah has a June court date for the drug and alcohol charges. Paxson has not commented publicly on the infractions.

I'm starting to think Noah might be on his way out of the Bulls.

I think I read somewhere that Avery wasn't interested with coaching the Bulls before the lottery. When the Bulls landed number 1, Avery was interested. If that was the case then they're better off without him.

I know it's his own prerogative to choose a situation that's advantageous for him but I don't think a coach joining a team just because the team has a better chance of winning because of the number 1 pick is the mentality the Bulls would have in their future coach.
It may look like Avery is only in for the easy ride if it comes to winning. A coach must want to coach the team and accept the responsibility of developing that team, with or without a number 1 pick.

It seems a strange decision to me, bringing back the coach they fired so many years ago. Collins is an alright coach, but I don't know, something doesn't sit right with the hiring & the personnel that they have on their roster. Maybe we'll see some changes. This hiring might suggest that Beasley is more likely candidate at number 1, I dunno. I thought after D'Antoni was out of the picture, they'd look for a younger, less experienced coach.

Although I said I hoped Avery Johnson didn't end up coaching the Bulls, I still think it makes more sense than Collins.

Without Noah, Bulls would most likely pick Beasley, that's a good option as long as they can get something good for Noah too, not much cap space, but maybe something like a future lottery pick, some rotation or something like this ? Maybe even some starter ? That would work out, probably.
