Live 2004 review from somebody who's played the PS2 version

Postby antwainbarbour on Sun Nov 02, 2003 4:13 am

Let me start off by saying this is my first post on this board in more than 5 months. I had all but told the Live Series to go home b/c I thought Sega Sports (ESPN Basketball) was headed in the right direction. Having bought Live 2003 on PC last season, I had never been more dissapointed in an EA Sports game. I was wanting a simulation. What I got was crap.

Fast forward to last week. I had pre-ordered ESPN and got it the first day it came out. I played it for about 3 hours, and while it was not absolutely horrible, it left much to be desired. I mean, there were 4 plays in the entire playbook: Post up, three point, iso, and pick and roll. Each play had about 20 variations depending upon where you called it on the court, but the user has no idea what the players were going to do next.

So, having not had my b-ball fix properly fed, I ran down to Blockbuster and picked up Live 2004 for the PS2. And I must say, I was mightily impressed. The gameplay is the BEST of all time, even better than Live 2000. This game is so smooth and the game plays very similiar to real life NBA. The 10-man motion capture really paid off big-time. Though the players faces pale in comaprison to ESPN, the graphics are top-notch. I'm sure patchers out there can make better faces in due time. Anyways, I am eagerly anticipating the PC release for Live. I'm sure it will look and play just like the PS2 version. Guys, you will not be dissappointed. You will be blown away. This game is so fun and plays so well. EA really did it s homework and turned out a superb product. We all will play this game until our thumbs fall off.

Eso es una revisión excelente. Siento el exacto la misma manera que usted hace a menos que negociara totalmente ESPN nuevamente dentro del EB para 2004 vivo

That is an excellent review. I feel the exact same way you do except I completely traded ESPN back into EB for Live 2004

I'm afraid Sega is going to drop the ball in their NCAA game too. Haven't heard a postive thing from people who've played the demo....March Madness has never looked so good!

Yeah, anyway that translation really sucks! Stop it, please, for all those people that actually speak "real" spanish...

Yeah, these boards are meant for everyone and if I was an admin, well I'd certainly delete all messages I didn't understand. There is that one sticky thread with different languages so if you must, you should post there.

I wonder how much would you people understant if I started to post in finnish... I know atleast one person here would understand, but the rest would probably not.

The review is nice, but it really does not go in-depth of the game. I am pleased to hear that getting the game with all the hype still payed off. I've come to expect in this computer gaming bussiness that you rarely get what you think you're getting.

Many people have said that the gameplay is good and it probably is... Next week, when november 11th comes around, well then we'll be able to read what they've done for our pc product. Hopefully something to make the user interface more mouse/high-resolution friendly.

Surpassing Live 2003 in realism is not that big of a deal. If 2k3 was a better simulation, well let's just say that NBA Live 95 was a better simulation of the game then Live 2003.
