KG locks down Defensive player of the year award

Postby Cartar on Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:32 am

It´s a bit surprise for me, but not big one, I thought Camby will take it, but KG has been great on defensive end well. Surprisingly he wins with a big margin, by 315 points. 3rd best player was Battier with only 3 points behind Camby. IMO Josh Smith, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard should´ve be little up.

P.S. Dalembert got mentioned

If you are going to post on an English speaking forum, type in English The Super 2.

Not a huge surprise. I had Camby winning, so I'm 1/2.

Damn it. I'm 1 for 2 so far.
It's a surprise to me, since I was so confident that Camby would've won..
What I don't get is that Garnett averages about 1 steal and 1 block and wins the award.
But two or so years ago, Gerald Wallace averages 2 blocks and 2 steals and doesn't even get in the top three voting.

After acquiring Garnett, Boston went from being one of the worst defensive teams to one of the best. I believe benji got this one right.

The Celtics had one of the greatest defenses of all time this year.

The real tragedy is that the greatest defensive player of the era has zero DPOY awards.

Blocks and Steals are like 10-20% of defense.

Just wondering, are you talking about Tim Duncan?

Very well deserved. His biggest asset is his defense. He's always in position, he contests every shot and he grabs most rebounds that come off that rim. Not to mention he can guard most guys on the floor with little help defense. He is a great defensive player and his intensity makes the players around him better defensive players. You can afford to gamble on defense when you got Garnett back there because you know he'll be at the doorstep. He may not block as many shots as Camby but he probably alters just as many.

Tim Duncan should have won last year, and probably the year before that too.

Kenny Smith picked it. I'm 1-1 as well, having also picked Camby.

It was obvious that KG would win DPOY as soon as he somewhat dropped out of the race to MVP (note: according to the media he's no longer in the race; not in my personal opinion).

The Celtics' turnaround is huge and that is mostly due to KG. The league had to reward him with something and since he won't get MVP they just gave him DPOY.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve DPOY, he does. But I'd rather seen him get the MVP trophy instead.

He was my pick for MVP early on and you can still make a case for him, but I think his numbers will work against him even though there's a good reason for them being down this year. Still, I believe individual stats still factor into the decision at some point when the media are casting their votes so at this point it's likely down to Kobe, LeBron and Paul.

no matter how much i would love to see KG win MVP there is no way i could cast a vote for him. he was huge in turning the celtics around but so were a host of other things. what paul has done kinda took everyone by surprise while i think everyone expected the celts to win the east after they got KG. paul gets my vote with kobe being second and KG a not so close third

Yeah, it's kind of strange that kg won a dpoy this year, when td has been doing the same thing better for a little under a decade. I think this season also shows how inflated kg's statistics were. That said, it also shows that kg could get it done with a better supporting cast, and I don't think he was a bad choice for dpoy. I'm hoping Celtics-Spurs! If only because the Spurs are, well, the modern day Celtics!

I also would have picked paul over Kobe, but again kobe is definitely in the top 3, so its not an atrocity or anything. A part of me hopes that if kobe got his mvp based somewhat on his past, maybe td will get dpoy next year! Yeah. Maybe not.

Yes, reading is my friend. Especially when I apply it to the two posts before the one you responded to that were clearly discussing the MVP award. Not only that, magius mentioned the MVP award in the paragraph you quoted from.

And I thought the rule was that you aren't allowed to go after people unless you first post your opinion? I don't see any other posts from you in this thread. Not that I personally have a problem with that, but you seem to for whatever reason.

So he was supposed to ask for your opinion before you even posted in the thread? Like "I wonder what Matthew thinks about this subject"? Otherwise you're free to criticize whatever you want in your first post in the thread?

You need to write down these rules if you expect me to keep them in mind when dealing with you. I simply am unable to intuit them when you're the only one who enforces them or finds them legitimate in any way.

You're an idiot. Think before you post! Please.

I called Ben out for not offering an opinion in the prediction thread because he questioned peoples predictions and yet when they asked him for a prediction he refused.

You tried to compare me to that. If Magius asks me if I think Kobe is a better defender then I will answer him.

Simple? Well for some it is...
