MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES - A New Path
Image
Introduction
In my humble try to do this dynasty properly I will follow two things. First I will simulate season 07/08 [like Chaser and Lamrock did]. I will also trade Gasol to Lakers like in real season. So the main storyline will start to happen around late season 07/08 when rookie scouting begins. General Manager will be Jerry West and also for the coach I'll do the same as in real life-signing with Marc Iavaroni as new head coach. I also won't explain Jerry West's move, trading Gasol to Lakers because we all already know that he did it for future cap room. I hope you will like it and I will really try my best.

Grizzlies Front Office

Clearing room for the big catch
Feb. 2, 2008 - Day after Gasol trade

11:00AM Michael Heisley's office, FedExForum, Memphis

Jerry West the general manager and Michael Heisley the majority owner of Memphis Grizzlies had a meeting at 11:00AM at Heisley's office in FedExForum. West walks in..

"Damn it Jerry, you scared me, can't you knock?!" said Heisley with sarcastic tone.
"Woow there mr. Owner, get a bell!!" responded West while smiling and walking into the office.
"Allways positve respond from you Jerry, that is why I love you so much, that is why I'm paying you so much" said Heisley and looked at West like he was his best high school friend.

"OHH cmon' Michael, you're making me blush. Let's stop this nonsense and get to the serious stuff." said West and sat down infront of Heisley's desk.
"Alright Jerry, enlighten me, with what have you came up now." interestingly said Heisley.

"Well I'm planning for us to be in next year's playoffs, possibly with home court advantage." replied West.
"Yes..? How?!" asked Heisley while zipping coffee.
"We have to have money, because this is only what we can offer to free-agent stars. We could either go for a one big catch or two fairly good catches ."

"Yes...I'm still listening" said Heisley, who was still very interested in what was West saying.
"We have to get rid of Jason's and Brian's fat contract. I mean 10 million dollars for nothing? No way! We have to react ASAP before trade deadline passes." said West and changed position on his chair and continued talking.
"I spoke with Minnesota's organisation, they have cap room and they want Juan""
"Oh, right..." interrupted Heisley

"And Juan was really hot in December and January, he can play both guard positions. He's wanted." said West.
"We can give Juan to them and involve Jason and Brian. They can afford an extra 6-7M." said West with big smile on his face.
"That means will have now not 6M cap room but almost 14 or 15M" replied Heisley.
"And Kwame is a restricted free-agent. 15M plus his 9M is 24M. We can do ALOT with this." added West to Heisley.
"Basically you mean that we can be a really good team next year, a playoff team?! asked Heisley.

"Exactly and rumors are saying that draft projection's very strong. If we get 1st pick we'll for sure have a starting rookie." answerd West to Heisley
"Once again I'm impressed. Maybe my 250-000 million dollars weren't for nothing when we've built new FedExForum complex in 2001." concluded Heisley.

They have then slowly walked out of the office and said goodbyes to eachothers and both went their own way. West went to his grandaugther in kindergarden and Heisley went on lunch with his associations.

I like you "behind the scenes" text. I think i will follow that.
It would interesting see what do u you with your cap room.

Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:53 am

Off to a nice start. Memphis is becoming one of those post-trade teams that are fun to rebuild (I believe there were 5 Sixers dynasties the day after AI was traded). Good luck in free agency.

Though there isn't opting out in NBA Live (so no Arenas) there are plenty of quality Free Agents. Unless you dealt Miller, I wouldn't advocate signing Ellis, but if you do, he would be a great pickup. Biedrins, Brand, Jamison, Marion and Millsap among others would be great additions to the front court. Good luck.

Nice start Maree, strong presentation (Y)

I've decided that miller stays, he will either be a starting player or an important 6th man.
Hmm Monta...i think i won't offer him anything because i've already have 3 young guards(Conley,Crittenton and Lowry)

Thank you. You're my inspiration! :)

Really? I'm your inspiration? Couldn't tell, never see you in my thread ;) Ah well glad to have another reader..

Anyways good luck with this. As a Warriors gan, I definitely would be glad to see you sign Ellis, but good luck with whatever direction you go in.

Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:10 pm

A lot of cap room use it wisly. Are you going to draft big, sign a lot of ok free agents, or go for one or two big players in free agent?

About draft...it is very strong so I guess we will get some decent player, a prospect.
about free-agency....my goal is to bring 2 fairly good players.(starter+sub)

Feb. 21, 2008

Memphis, TN - Press - J.C. Navarro(MEM), Jason Collins(MEM), Brian Cardinal(MEM) for Mark Madsen(MIN), Chris Richard(MIN), Craig Smith(MIN)

Just a day before trade deadline would pass, Grizzlies and Wolves came to an agreement in six-player deal. It was no secret that Minnesota wanted Navarro. " I really don't care where I play as long as my contract will be on a renewal. " said Jaun Carlos Navarro over the phone for some local radio station. It seems that Grizzlies didn't benefit in this trade at all, at least so it looks. But don't be fooled, this is just another brilliant move in Jerry West's repertuar. If we look more closely, Grizzlies finally ditched Collins and Cardinal's ridiculous contracts. " We really can't wait another 2 seasons, it has to be next year. " said West at press conference.

Fans applauded Navarro's last home apperance.

Grizzlies have got Madsen who's salary wages only 3M. Also Smith and Richard with expiring minimum contracts. Memphis will now be the leading cap room team in the league. Also Kwame Brown will be restricted free-agent which means they can re-sign with him even if they don't have enough cap room. For that they can spend all of their money on free agents. Next year's free agency will be huge, beucase lot of big contracts will run out. Will once again Jerry West do a great deal and bring home the big catch. We will have to wait and see.

Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:11 am

I like that you got Craig Smith
and yeah you got rid of Cardinal and Collins, both are kinda useless

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:28 am

nice job out there, keep it up.

Tue Apr 08, 2008 1:01 pm

Off to a good start buddy! That is a lot of cap room flexibility for you, use it wisely. It will make or break your team’s future!

Tue Apr 08, 2008 1:03 pm

Not too bad of a trade actually, although isn't Madsens contract bigger? Because I thought he signed for 5 years 30 million when he orginally signed? Anyways good luck... just checked espn, guess I wrong nvm haha.

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:28 pm

In the summer, i think you should re-sign Smith. I think he won't ask for much. You'll probably be able to sign some big name with Smith. He's great. Depending which roster you're using.

Nice job getting rid of Cardinal and Collins!

Good luck! (Y)

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:40 pm

balozunite, yes. they really had an expensive contracts

Sanguango, thanks

homicide1550, yeah I know there are always to sides of the story :)

Chaser7, I'm using contracts from Live...i know though that Live is not sure thing about contracts..

Km26, hmm, never thought about re-signing smith. We'll see if there will be enough roster space for him.

Wed Apr 09, 2008 1:22 am

Good trade. Its the little ones like this that are the most rewarding. Sucks to lose JCN but you managed to get an up-and-coming frontcourt guy (Smith) and dropped two dead weights for expiring contracts.

Looking forward to seeing what's next. (Y)

Half-time in Cleveland

Two days ago Grizzlies announced a new TV spot that will be playing in Sunday's half-time report against Cavaliers. Along with TVspot they will also publish Jerry West's interview that was made on February 22, 2008. Here are some highlights from the interview and the new TV spot for the Grizzlies.

____________________________________________________________________
Journal: Is really possible after two 20/60 seasons to bounce back into the playoffs?
J.West: First of all we have to know that everything is possible, after all
NBA is where amazing happens and I feel that something amazing will happen to us.
Journal: Okay, so tell us, what is the amazing all about.
J.West Sure, lets begin. Our scouts were pretty busy with searching the best basketball's
potential that this world can offer. Afcourse I'm reffering to rookies. And from briefings
that we've got it's looking very prommising. We are really hoping for good draft lottery.
With 1st or 2nd selection we could bring this boy wonder, that everybody is talking about,
to Memphis. But enough about rookies, lets talk more about free agents, that's exciting, right?
Journal: Yes, which positions will be your primacy?
J.West: First we'll have to wait until draft is over, but I can tell you that we are thinking
in helping Mike Miller and bringing in some decent shooting guard. We also think that we have
to get stronger in front line positions. Additional power forward or center is very welcome.
Journal: You are still not mentioning any names, can you be more specific?
J.West: No, because there are no free agents out there yet. Trust me, you will be the first
to know when we will start mentioning names (smiling).
Journal:Ok, final thought. Any message for the Grizzlies fans?
J.West: Yes. We want for fans to stay loyal as they were because good days are just
around the corner. Have faith in our decisions and we will show you what we can do next year.
