NBA Live 09 will not be released for the PC

Coming on the heels of the announcement that Madden 09 will not be developed for the PC platform, an announcement has been posted over on the official NBA Live 08 website stating that NBA Live 09 will also not be released on the PC.

Last week we talked about our decision to not develop this year's Madden for the PC. We've also made the same decision for this year's NBA LIVE on the PC.

Needless to say, this is a huge disappointment for those of us who prefer to play NBA Live on the PC.

Not the news we were hoping for at all after the Madden announcement came out.

I don't mean to say "I told you so," but after the decline of the PC version, this was inevitable. I remember someone posting this somewhere, I think it was EAcrazylegs.

"Would you rather have the developers work on a patch for this years game or work on making Live 09 nextgen?" He also said something about them reworking the PC development team, so I still have hopes that something is in the works for 2010.

Now we should really call out for a patch to fix the most glaring issues - the gameplay, the simulation engine, and the playing rotation in dynasty mode.

If there is no patch, I will pretend I am important and matter and never buy another new EA Sports game.

NBA Live on PC is waay better than NBA Live on Wii. What has gotten into EA?

They are doing everyone a favor by not giving us the same old one. But a big F U to ea for no next-gen for PC.

This exactly what they want you to do. Forget that the PC is even a gaming platform with no releases of Madden or Live, since they don't make much money in comparison to the consoles. Go buy a console and make them some real money. Make them look good for their business decisions and not their dedication to the gaming industry.

I can tell you that FIFA and NHL are next to be axed. Maybe even Tiger Woods.

Damn, this does it... NBA LIVE for the PC was the best because of all the patches ppl have provided to improve the game dramatically. I just don't understand why sports games are preceived to be way better on the consoles (PS3, XBOX360) The only benefit putting sports games on the consoles are the graphics, but these days computers are able to handle the same or even better graphics than the PS3 and XBOX360 (look at Call of duty 4 for example) The benefits of sports games on the computer is numerous, Constant roster updates, jersey updates, accessories, cyberfaces, dornas, courts, stadiums and more... I just don't understand when they say that sports games are more suitable for consoles when there is less updates that can be downloaded.

It seems that EA Sports has simply given up on the PC gamers since they cannot satisfy our standards. They took the easy way out and targeted the less sophisticated crowd. I wouldn't be so pissed if the had made NBA LIVE 08 perfect with gameplay and substitution but the ppl at EA seem to not have a solution to the many bugs they have created thus given up on a solution and moved on...It's time for us to petition for NBA 2K9 to get on the PC side now since clearly it is the superior basketball game that we are all hoping for.

This is crap, BUT...we should organise something, Any Mods here who know any way of doing this, a petition or something to have them work on a patch etc to improve this years game and keep this years game up to date.

If they haven't scrapped the EA Sports PC team then they should put some of that team to the task of developing patches and rosters to take time away from the amazing guys here at NLSC ... Thanks all I love all the patches... and help create things to fix the crap they shovelled out these last couple of years!

Not a real big suprise for me. EA just spent a butt-load to aquire Bioware, and twice a butt-load on a so far failed attempt to buy Take Two. Now, they need to cut costs. Anything thats not Battlefield, The Sims, possably FIFA, or anything already in development at Bioware has to get trimmed.

Take it as personaly as you like, it's still just simply business.

Seriously disappointing news so I made all those extra jerseys that were never added for Live 05-08 for nothing, I was hoping they were gonna add some more hardwood classics if there was an 09 version for pc. I am not overly surprised but I am frustrated with this decision EA Sports made.

I guess we will have to start developing our own pc game from almost the ground up if there is anyway to hack the hell out of well all pc versions to great an unofficial Live 09 but i do realize thats a long shot of actually being able to be done.

I will change tacts and be an optimist.

2002's elimination resulted in a "better" game. (Although the ported console /UI was trash.) Hopefully we will see 360-port in 2009. (Titled 2010)

If EA has no plans to ever continue the PC series, I really hope they will release the source code to us as we requested a few years back. Or at least find a way to have people buy a "license" to the engine and then install our mod which is our edits to the source code.

Calling it now, NBA Live 2010 will be called NBA Live X and will use Roman Numerals for the following years.


What you say is true Benji, if/when we get a PC version back it will probably be the same game from the 360. However, I am just sick of putting work into these current versions to make them "fun" for me. There are only 3 EA basketball games out right now that I can play with no want/need modifications, Street vol 2, March Madness 2003, and (for now) March Madness 08 on the 360. Everything else I have to tweak the gameplay, update graphics, ect.

Maybe 2K sports will make their game on PC!

As soon as i heard about Madden, i thought that will prob happen with the Pc version of Nba live as well.

Totally sux, i really enjoyed playing nba live on the pc with the keyboard and the other pc centric things you could do with it, mods, etc.
Just hope they actually make the next nba live actually good, cos it will be hard or next to impossible to mod it to make it better.
