Sucks not being able to ride bikes or get out of cars while they are moving, but its still mad fun.
You can always play LCS. It's more linear than GTA3, but it's still fun.

I've found myself doing the same thing in between attempting to advance in the other GTAs, to the point of starting a new GTA3 game yesterday.

Even though SA is my favorite game, GTA3's Liberty City is my favorite map. I guess it reminds me of home.

From what we've seen so far, how close would you say GTA IV's Liberty City comes to representing the city that inspired it? I only spent a few days in New York last year but I recognised a couple of buildings and landmarks in some of the screenshots that looked like pretty faithful representations of the real thing.

The game looks amazing, I really can't wait for it to come out. I just hope the graphics during game play are as brilliant as the screenshots.

I wouldn't think they'd be any worse. Of course, I find it hard to appreciate the finer details of the scenery when I'm trying to weave through traffic to avoid cops/get to an objective on time.

i usually wonder around the map for ever it seems just learning everything. the streets, main locations, shortcuts, best places to get away, and so forth. i do this prior to doing a single mission(unless its required to actually start the game). best way for me has been the taxi missions. great way to learn the main streets before going off on my own to find the other little things. while i am doing all that i tend to take in the games visuals which was not so great graphic wise in the other games but they sure do put alot of humor into thier maps

It's f-cking sick, man. From everything I've seen, GTAIV Liberty City is MUCH closer to the real NYC than the GTA3 version(only certain areas resembled NYC).

Taxi missions are definitely great for learning the map and points of interest (and traditionally the best shortcuts), not to mention building up some cash early in the game...especially in the games where the early missions don't give you a lot of money. GTA3 was pretty generous in that regard.

anyone here read the articles on IGn about gta4? the history of grand theft auto was a good read for me as it pointed out alot of things i didnt know. like the fact nintendo could have basically owned all the gta games if they just accepted it as a game and didnt tell them it was too violent. i wonder if in hindsight they regret that?
the article actually about GTA4 is a pretty good read also

probably not, I'm sure Nintendo has other ways of making money. they're happy retaining their clean-cut image. It would be like if Disney picked up a bunch of movies that are rated R or something.
Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:10 am
good point, i am sure they are happy with what they got, but consider this. if they owned the gta series would sony even be around today in the console market? maybe yes and maybe no, the chances for being no go way up though. its probably good for us all that it didnt happen that way cause if nintendo beat out sony then the xbox probably nevwer would have came out and nintendo would still own the market and i might be forced to play that stupid ass wii

Yep, taxi missions are great when you're just starting a game. It's critical to know where the Pay 'n' Sprays are, along with a few bribe stars. I buy the game books to learn the locations of my favorite weapons.

I don't know, beating up people in-game sounds like fun using the Wii-mote.

Scarface? The Godfather? Bully?
No More Heroes...
Who would want GTA, when Prime 3, Galaxy and such are available to play?
Although GTA4 will be a game to play because of one thing: flying through the windshield into the water to escape police.

I bought the guide for San Andreas but usually I just grab a few of the guides off GameFAQs.

i bought the GTASA guide also but only cause the store had some special where it only costed 5 bucks if you preordered. i usually also get the guides from gamefaqs though i try to find out most of the stuff for myself. i actually got 100% in gta 3 without any guides but needed them for gtasa(damn oysters)

Same reason I bought it. I've noticed EB Games tends to make deals like that.
Meanwhile, I picked up the PC versions of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas off eBay fairly cheaply, mostly for a bit of fun but also to try out some mods.

You guys obviously haven't played "mafia"....came out in 2002. That was simply the best gta-style game other than vice city and san andreas...period. It was everything that "The godfather" video game wishes it was in every way including graphically...even though it was 4 years older. The story was totally fucking emersive and unpredictable. That game goes down as my 3 fav game of all time behind san andreas and kotor. Mafia 2 is due out either late this year or early next year...look for that.

I wouldn't say the story was unpredictable. It is superior to the Grand Theft Auto series because of the story however.
Provided you aren't trying to do the racing part prior to the patch however...
And nobody mentions Crackdown?
