Xbox or Ps2

Thu Oct 23, 2003 6:02 pm

Good Afternoon fellas,

I'm gonna save up some money to buy a console, buty i'm not sure which yet.

I'm sort of leaning towards getting an XBOX so far, because you can get a mod chip in it where you can play ps2 games, so that's two birds with one stone. The best thing about it though is how you can buy huge harddrives and install games onto your harddrives! and they have heaps of other features. The bad thing is i hate those chunky mother fuckers for controllers...i prefer the ps2 controllers but that's only a small thing. I don't need the xbox DVD kit though because we already have a DVD player.

The good thing about ps2's is they have better games. And you can play online with NBA live...but since you can get that mod chip for xbox and i don't have broadband to play online anyway...i'm pretty sure i'll get an xbox...unless somebody tells me about something cool about ps2's which'll make me go "WOWEE i'm getting that!"

Answer the poll...then explain why...

I told ya man, go strip club. If you're going to waste money, atleast see something good, get your money's worth!! :D

By what you wrote, the X-box sounds more 'worth the money' if you can play sony games on it too. But I don't really know, my gaming life does not extend past the PC and my copy of Live.

I got a ps2, and had an xbox but i gave it to my brother. The difference between the two is the games, and most games are developed with the ps2 controller in mind (nba street vol 2 for example). The Chipping of xbox is good, for like 200 bucks you can put actual games on the hard drive and play them off the xbox directly, no cd or dvd required. But i dont pirate games, so thats why i kept the ps2.

Xbox comes with the hard drive as standard, but with a ps2 you need a memory card and the hard drive hasnt been released down here yet.. and with the xbox controllers, you can get a smaller version designed for users with smaller hands... both have advatanges and disadvantages

I only own a PS2, but I've played a couple of Xbox games in K-Mart and Target, since they usually have one setup with the latest game. I don't really like the feel of the Xbox controller. Something about the button layout just didn't seem right.

I can't give any more insight into the Xbox, but I certainly give my thumbs up to the PS2. (Y)

definately, theres only so many buttons you can press with your right thumb, but they have like 6 on that side.. the ps2 controller is certainly better imo..

I have both and I prefer the Xbox. I didn't need to buy a memory card, and I can make customizable soundtracks. I also love Xbox Live, and I haven't used the PS2 Online yet. Xbox is also getting GTA3 and Vice City next month, and they have Halo, and other good Xbox-exclusive games. Depending on what controller you get, it won't be hard to adjust to if you get the smaller one. If you get the larger one, than it doesn't really matter either, since I found it pretty easy. Also, many games that are on PS2 and Xbox, have better graphics on Xbox. Plus there's faster game loads.

I say ps2. I hear xbox has a crappy controller. Its got these 2 little tiny black and white buttons. I say wait for the next playstation.

Sat Oct 25, 2003 6:48 am

I say PS2, just because, I'm more of a I get the things made by this company every year so You don't have to listen to me. If you're buying an XBOX though, the only way I can stand playing it is with one of the small controllers (that are like 2/3 the size) that they came out with after so many controller complaints. If you can play ps2 game son xbox get it, because xbox also has a lot more "Only on xbox" games, than other consoles.

i own a ps2 and its been very reliable. you can hold so much saved data on an 8mb memory card and the graphics are pretty good. the controller is very easy to handle and ps2 has grand theft auto vice city and that is one really fun game. even though i hear that the gta series will also go to xbox.

Thanks for the input peeps.

I will be pirating games, so which console would be better for that?

Sat Oct 25, 2003 11:12 am

probably PS2 imo..and there are lotz more good games for PS2 imo...

Sat Oct 25, 2003 2:44 pm

The xbox is, becuase once you have a chip, you can copy them directly to the hard drive, where as with some (alot now) ps2 games are in dvd format, so you need a dvd burner

Sun Oct 26, 2003 1:22 am

My next door neighbour has a DVD burner. :D

Besisdes, i thought ALL Ps2 games were DVD format...do you mean to tell me that they come in normal CD format too? :o

BTW, Matthew, do you know how much that xbox chip is?

Sun Oct 26, 2003 1:29 am

well, you can play regular playstation games on ps2. I dont think any ps2 games come in cd, because dvd can hold more.

Sun Oct 26, 2003 1:58 am

Meh, i don't care about being able to play old playstation games anyway. Heck, i have a playstation. Also, besides, all my ps1 games are burnt.

Sat Nov 08, 2003 12:44 pm

PS2 doesn't really have much on Xbox right now, since that a GTA III and Vice City Double Pack has just come out for Xbox, yet there is still lots that the PS2 just isn't capable of doing that the Xbox is.

Sat Nov 08, 2003 8:32 pm

Xbox has better graphics, yeah?

Sat Nov 08, 2003 8:49 pm

Sorry Nick, wasnt paying much attention to this forum. Most of the earlier ps2 games were in cd format, but now as the games have improved, most games that are released are in dvd format. As for the xbox chip, they are usually 150-200 bucks, but once u have it man, its so easy to pirate becuase u can copy around 20 full games onto the hard drive directly, all u need to do is hire the game and thats it

Sat Nov 08, 2003 9:56 pm

150 bucks??? aw, shit. I thought it would be like 70-100. (N)

How much would a ps2 chip be?

Mon Nov 10, 2003 9:40 pm

They might be cheaper.. i havent checked them out ina long time. just look in the trading post under the computers section..

I have both but I don't even use my PS2. I'm in love with the XBox. It's the best system out there, IMO. Xbox Live kicks some serious azz.
