i was just at the spurs/mavs preseason game and saw these two play, and i like em both even though only one will make the team

i really enjoyed watching heal (australia) light up the dream team and trash talk barkley even though we whipped them he was a good player

thanks

Im taking your a spurs fan?

Im not sure how these new ratings work so I wouldnt be able to tell you.

Being in Oz I wont get the game for a few more weeks.

If either Heal and Alex Garcia make the team id follow these type of rules though

Heal, is a shooter, he isnt a great defender, he'd have some toughness tho! So I wouldnt make him great at much, just maybe above avg on threes and FT's, and a good ball handler, but not great.

From what Ive read about garcia, he's an explosive type of guy, who is really a 2 guard playing the point for the spurs. So he'd have a good vertical leap, some speed etc.

It seems Shane Heal is still giving it to Sir Charles...

I don't know what ratings Heal deserves but he shoots 40% on treys in his Australian league, and around 45% on treys in International competition. You'd have to adjust that to the NBA 3-point-line but it should be noted that most of Heal's threes are from a long way out (often closer to the halfcourt-line) because he's double and triple-teamed constantly being one of the best scorers in Australian history. He shot a franchise record FIVE 3-pointers in one quarter for the Minnesota TWolves. I say he's very quick for a white guy and works very hard on defense. Has a good floater and likes to take it to the hole when the lane is open. Very good court-vision and rarely makes a bad pass. Plays point-guard for the Australian Olympic team.

also..
He shoots A LOT. Very good mid/short-range jumper. Very aggressive, but not too strong. Cant really jump or rebound. Good Off Awareness. Average Def awareness. Doesnt average a lot of assists, but as said is a good passer.
That should help with about all the rating areas..

heal averaged 9 assists in the last season in nbl!

I am talking about NBA, and to a lesser extent games like Olympics and World champs.. after all.. it is NBA live we are(or will be) playing.
With the T-Wolves he averaged 0.8 assists per game(true it was in under 6 mins a game). He playes a much different role in the NBA. He is a strike shooter off the bench in the NBA, in the mould of a Steve Kerr, not a playmaker and leader like in the NBL..

I didnt know this, but just recently read that he led the rocky mountain review in assists in 1997 I guess it was, so until he hurt his calf he was well on his way to being a decent kinda mins player.

I wouldn't say Heal is a good mid ranger, he's a good three point shooter. But mid range is not his thing. However, inside the line he is a good penetrator.

Like the other guy said, rebounds don't exist in his vocabulary. Great awareness offensively but not a passer in the same vain as Stockton, TeeBee, Kidd or Tony Parker. Very quick but not fast and a very strong point guard.

Listen to the Steve Kerr description and adjust your ratings accordingly.

I'd say he'd be about a 40 overall in Live'04.

If only there was a rating for "Opposition fan's hatred." Heal would be a 99 in the NBL!!! I love him though. It's a shame he's no longer in the NBL cos he always made the games fun to watch. Ugly looking jumpshot, but damn... he hit a LOT of them, and not only the open ones either. Often with a defender in his shorts and a hand up (in his face, not up his shorts  ). I must agree with the proposed ratings offered earlier in this thread. Just make sure he has the Bob Sura style peroxide hair! I'm a little concerned about his effectiveness as a specialist shooter. Steve Kerr could come into a game after sitting on the pine for 47.9 minutes and still make the gamewinner. I'm not so sure Heal is as pure a shooter as that. He is more of a rhythm shooter. IMO anyway. Great to see at least one Aussie in the Big Show though!! Bogut will be in there I reckon. Give him time.

yes i'm a spurs fan, and look back!

i was at the spurs game, cuz i heard heal was gonna play!!

i loved him in the olympic vs the usa dream team, and thought he was a great player, and loved him jawing w/ barkley

garcia is a muscle bound fool!

he has a great leap, but cant shoot

i think they said only one of the two would make the team (3rd point guard), and i'd say garcia was better, but they said the spurs wanted a 'kerr-like pt guard

shane heal to the rescue

he did miss all FOUR 3's he shot (no one ever accused him of passing up a shot), but they were all "in and out"

i hope heal makes the team, but i'm gonna put both in my dynasty
