Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

A lot of the first impressions of NBA Live 2004 have been negative. Although I've been reading the posts, I'm still waiting until I have the game myself before I form any opinions it.
But I've been looking back through the old forum, and it's interesting to note that even though many people consider it to be the best game of the series, there were still negative opinions about NBA Live 2000 and anti-EA sentiment way back in 1999. Take some of these threads for example:
Is it me or...
Players potential ratings are more screwed then you think...
WHERE IS THE SCENARIO MODE???
TOO MANY MISSED DUNKS!!!!!!!!!
To all those who said "you're all gonna buy it anyway"
Interface for on-line play is horrid!!!!!!
What happened to the "scenario" mode?
Anyone find the overall ratings to be really off????
That producers' interview
NBA Live 2 vs NBA Live '99
A more realistic game
My thoughts after playing live2000 demo
Live 2k, more of the same, kinda like C&C2 :>
What really sux about the demo...
What's that old saying? "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Anyway, those posts are definitely worth a look, if only to see some old flame wars and a young Shane Hefty posting.

It's expected, even if Live 2004 was perfect, people would nit pick. It's a lot easier to be negative. I personally LOVE Live 2004, playing the x box version is getting me more excited to play it for the PC. I'm almost certain that Live 2004 PC will be the best basketball game to date.
I'm having way too much fun playing the console version right now--and it's funny because a lot of the complaints I've read throughout the net have been by players who play on "starter"?

It's really fun, but the thing they need is more depth. If anyone from EA was ever to read a post on this board, they should read this...
PUT ONE OF THE LEAD DESIGNERS AND PROGRAMMERS FROM MADDEN ON THE NBA LIVE TEAM!
I find myself not understanding why EVERY year we are left saying maybe next year for Live... Madden is always almost perfect. There is very little negative you can say about it. And their team seems to at least acknowledge us PC users, the fact that they released a major patch to fix some issues is proof, plus the UI in Madden is PC specific. Football is a much harder sport to make a realistic game of, yet they consistently pull it off. WHY IS IT THAT LIVE IS NOT LIKE THIS? Madden has been one upped once in it's existence(the pre PS2 years when NFL 2k dropped) and immediately stepped it up. Live has had serious competition since NBA 2K and has responded with 3 titles that left a lot to be desired. Don't get me wrong, Live is better this year, but gaping errors like the Free Agent sim one are ridiculous. To me it seems they added better animations , sliders and cutscenes. There is a ton of new eye candy, but it seems more like a completed version of Live 2003 than a new game... That's why many people are dissappointed.

It's all about overanticipating. When you overanticipate then you want expect things that aren't gonna be that great. It's like watching a movie. When you think a movie is gonna be trash then you end up saying it was iight. But when you think a movie is gonna be great than you end up saying it wasn't that good.

I agree, low expectations usually result in pleasant surprises, while extremely high expectations increase the chance of disappointment. However, I think attitude also plays a role. If you expect something to be bad and go into it expecting to find fault, then you probably will. You should look at both the positives and negatives, and above all try to enjoy whatever it is you're experiencing, be it a movie or a video game or something else.
If you decide not to enjoy it before you experience it, then you're pretty much guaranteed not to enjoy it.

The things i see day to day on these boards hardly surprise me. Kids post here more than adults probably and kids will be kids. Opinions and impressions from ppl on this site mean nothing to me unless i somehow have knowledge of their credibility. My expectations of the Live series are pretty much that they improve their game yearly to some capacity. if i end up being pleased with it from a rentalor demo, I buy.
There are well put critisms and comments and there are rants and flames. This will never change, if EA posts on these forums where members may reply....they will be flamed. Theres no getting around it other than censorship. If a rep such as Tim, who knows what happens on these boards and sees the immaturity around can actually stomach it and post regardless. Then thats our best bet. I doubt a new guy will willingly subject themself to this sort of thing. However i hope i'm proven wrong sometime.

If you mean players signing for a minimum, that problem is still there, that can be seen in the screenshots Cocobee took which have kindly been hosted by Pirate.
