Custom Team vs. Custom Team - crash

Postby PaperAssassin on Tue Mar 04, 2008 5:31 pm

Hi everyone, I've edited teams, teamgear, and players DBF files and basically created two custom teams using the available Free Agents. If I start a game between one of these custom teams and an actual existing NBA team, it works fine. But if I play the two custom teams against each other, I crash back to desktop during the load-up screen. Anyone know why this is happening?

BTW, yes I have the latest NLSC rosters installed. Thanks.

Usually that happens because there's missing team art, such as the court. It should be possible to play a game between two custom teams. Did you assign a custom team abbreviation (TEAMABR) when you created the teams, along with correctly named custom art?

I didn't create my own jerseys and logos, so I simply used the Sacramento Kings and LA Clippers codes for TEAMABR2 and TEAMABR4.

For each team, or did you use the Kings' value for one team and the Clippers for the other? There has to be a conflict in the database somewhere if you've got both teams using existing art that can't be missing.

Yes, I used Sacramento values only for the first team, and LA Clippers values only for the second team. I chose these two teams specifically so that I could assign their vintage jerseys to my custom teams.

Have you added entries for those jerseys in teamgear.dbf? If not, that's likely the problem as there haven't been any jerseys specifically assigned to them.

Yes I've already done that. Basically, I've assigned the LA Clipper vintage jerseys to one custom team, and the Sacramento vintage jerseys to the other. Those entries have already been added into the teamgear file. On the game selection screen (where I get to pick which jersey to wear) they show up fine so it seems like I've done the databases correct. Yet, the game still will crash.

Does the game crash with a Codebase Error or does it just return to the desktop?

Upload your roster, I'll take a look at it.

No codebase or any other error messages pop up, it just goes straight to desktop.

How do I upload the roster? And is it just players.dbf you need, or any other files?

It's best if you upload the entire save folder to a place such a Rapidshare or Sendspace.

I wasn't able to figure out how to upload the entire currentdb directory onto Rapidshare properly. Instead of getting one download link for the whole directory, I end up instead with 73 links (one for every little file).

Anyway, I'll just give you the links for the players, teams, and teamgear files as those are the only ones I have edited since installing the latest NLSC roster update. Thanks.

You should have just zippped it up or put it in a rar file, but I'll see what I can do by adding those to the NLSC roster.

Anyways, I have come to a conclusion that the game does not like the team ID's of 90 and 91. I changed them to 41 and 42 before realizing that there were already teamgear values for 41. It worked fine after doing this.

I don't know offhand what team 41 is, but 41-43 are used, so maybe 44 and 45 for your custom teams would work.

44 and 45 are the Rookies and Sophomores, best not to use those. ;) If you're using the NLSC roster as a base, the last ID number I've used is 81 for Dream Team III so there's also a couple of other IDs you could use that are less than 90. Otherwise, 51-70 should be fine, anything in the 60s should be safe.
