That's an amazing system for this price. The CPU and RAM are top notch, the card is very good for today's games, great sound card too... Definitely a must buy for that price.

I have this board, and while it's not a top-of-the-line MB, it's still more than enough to run the rest of this system, he'll even be able to go quad core with it.
Still can't believe the price of each component, go for it man

Do you already have a monitor? If you do, getting extra ram or a better motherboard would be good. Try to push it to $999.99.

All I want is 1024x768 85hz High Settings Oblivion/Crysis

Should be over 75-80 FPS

NBA Live would be like 150+ FPS if there is no FPS cap or VSync

You still won't be able to bring your fps through the roof with Crysis, except if you play at a low res (I'd recommend to try it at a higher resolution, with that system, you'll be able to do that), but it should still give you some good performance.
Even with a setup of 3 8800GTX in SLI, it's apparently not possible to go above 40-50 fps at a high resolution with this game...

you shouldnt have to though, the human eye sees something as 'smooth' at 25 fps (which is what tv runs at), if you can stably run the game at like 35-40 fps then thats plenty

The 25 fps you see in PAL format is actually 50 interlaced "fields", which are half of a frame(odd lines in one field and even lines in another), timed and blended in such a way that it makes the picture look smooth to your eye.

The thing is, it really depends on the games. Some will feel surprising smooth at 23-24 fps (like Crysis), but others may not, it depends on the game engine. But you're right, 40fps should be good for most games.

The reason Crysis feels smooth at that low framerate is due to the motion blur. I've been playing Shadows of Chernobyl and it's mostly running at 35+ fps with some rare drops down into the 20's. When I learned there was a motion blur effect that could be enabled, I enabled it and it looks so much smoother now, but still runs at the same framerate.

I also learned only recently that the motion blur could be enabled in STALKER (which I'm addicted to). It's not quite as good as Crysis' effect obviously, but it is a pretty nice touch indeed.
Since the motion blur (the post-processing effect) in Crysis makes you lose a few fps when enabled, I'm not sure it's really what makes the game feels smoother than expected though. What it mostly does, besides the actual blurring effect, is reducing the jaggedness, mainly on vegetation.

I still haven't finished Crysis, Bioshock, and other games because I spend all my time on STALKER. It's that good...The only other game I spent so much time on before is probably Oblivion.
Plus its prequel, STALKER: Clear Sky, is coming up in the next few months, looks even better.
