Van Horn and A. McKie

Postby Leander on Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:05 am

What's up with Van Horn and McKie? Are they injured? I thought that McKie retired a long time ago but he is on the Memphis roster.

Will Van Horn play? Or was he just signed by Dallas and traded to the Nets to get Kidd...and will retire immediately?

They are just gonna get their paycheck for warming the bench, bringin donuts and carry other players stuff around.

Van horn is getting overpaid just to warm the bench.

since neither player "officially" retired, and their former teams didn't re-nounce their rights they can be used in such deals. The players basically get paid to do nothing. I believe the NBA requires the players to show up to the teams that they were traded to but that's just about the extent of it.

This loophole is abused about as much as the "injured reserve" rule was....I wonder if the NBA will change it.

I haven't heard Van Horn say he didn't wanted to play. Apparently he had to convince David Stern that he was serious about his comeback for the trade to go through at all, so the ball is really at the Nets' court (does that Danish saying translate to English?). If he can still play, they are in their right to use him - I can't see why they would though, as they have plenty of young front court talent they are better of playing.

even if van horn wanted to play it would be a waste, he is not someone you want to waste minutes on when you are rebuilding

The same happened when the hornets trade lee nailon and mashburn to philadelphia for glen robinson a couple of seasons ago. None of the three palyers played in his new teams.

Supposedly Van Horn has to maintain a "presence" with the Nets after he reports so even if he doesn't practice with the team or play another minute, he might have to show up to the games (at least in the short term) to fulfil that requirement.

It does seem a pretty sweet deal, unless you don't like travelling.

I just want to see Van Horn play only one game and that's it.

Probably won't happen. As long as he turns up to the games, sits on the bench and follows the dress code, the NBA should be satisfied.

EDIT: Apparently, got beat by one minute.

Yeah, he needs to keep himself in tip-top shape the next time a trade comes around and a team need to sign a guy for $4 million to do nothing.
