the thing i love about these trades is that they are highly unexpected, and in the case of the Lakers, they significantly upgraded for nothing.

Man u shouldn't say that.. the suns needed a bigman like shaq..
for example: if they would play againts spurs who will stop duncan hes a tough guy and i think only shaq can stop him... though there gameplay may be get slower coz of him but eventually they would go to championship..i guess shaq is better than diaw.there starting line up should be.

NASH
BELL
HILL
STOUDEMIRE
SHAQ

This is the dummest trade the NBA has ever seen, period. I expect Shaq to be waived in a season or two at the latest, he won't even pass the physical no more, I doubt he will actually play for the Suns in this year's playoff at all. The Suns management must be totally weird. The Suns wanted more defense and all they got now is somebody who's not even able to get back down the court in time. Shaq should have retired last year, his days in the league are definitely over.

I personally find the replica hilarious. He's spending most of his time sitting on the bench in his suit :P

I'm dancing around here. If Dallas get far enough to play Phoenix, they'll have absolutely nobody to defend Dirk without Marion. Maybe Amare, which could let Devin Harris get his penetration without worrying about the athletic shot-blocking anyway.

Ok this is a dumb trade. I'll try to hold back from placing expletives all over the place, but this is what I expect to see if Shaq actually even plays for the Suns, as all he does now is rot on the bench and earn money for doing so.

Start of game.. Amare jumps center as Shaq can't jump anymore. Amare tips the ball to a teammate, who throws ball to Nash. Nash and the other Suns run down the floor and score quickly. And Shaq is where? He isn't even done hobbling downcourt. So opposing team runs down to their attack end, and they score quickly. Where's Shaq? Hobbling down towards the defensive end.

The whole fucking game, he'll be stuck running across the middle of the court. The Suns just shot themselves in the foot.

1. there has been far worse trades than this one
2. shaqs contract runs out in 2 years so he wont be waived
3. they already gave him his physical
4. shaq may be highly overpaid for his production but he is still better than alot of the centers in the nba so to say he should have been retired is pretty shitty.

The Heat have cut Luke Jackson to only have 15 players on the roster.

I was surprised to say the least, as I'm sure most people were. Pat Riley had even stated that there was no plans to move Shaq and while such remarks are sometimes a sign something is going on, it just seemed unlikely there'd be many takers given Shaq's age and his contract.

For Phoenix, I guess the best you can say is they didn't lose Marion for nothing which was certainly a possibility given the supposed rift that developed between him and the organisation. If Shaq can get healthy or at least be productive through his nagging injuries, there's a chance it can work out for at least a season as they don't need him to be the Shaq of 2000. Still, it's quite a gamble.

Miami's taking a bit of a risk too in that Marion may walk but they'll at least get some cap relief if that happened or they might even be able to work out a sign-and-trade. Given that they're in rebuilding mode already, they have far less to lose than a Suns team that's gearing up for another shot at the championship. Acquiring Marion isn't going to do much for them this season but that hardly matters. If anyone has shot themselves in the foot on this deal it will be the Suns but again in all fairness we'll have to wait and see.

Sauru wrote:lol thats funny, the replay game is pointless, the heat want to lose it now anyway. this is a tank season for them by this point

I guess it needs to be done because the ruling has been made and it was the right decision given the circumstances but it does become a bit of a joke when the player at the heart of the controversy won't even be in uniform for the Heat.

Good idea or not, that seems unlikely.

Why do people say shaq is old and garbage already? c'mon 35 years old lol? UFC champ is 42 and he could still fight and playing basketball is not even near that physical compare to other sport...

.... sorry two different sports. if u wana start comparing a mixed martial arts match to an aerobic finesse type of sport u should go do it another thread.

on the other hand, people shouldnt be so quick to say this trade is a bust for suns. i am one of those people who are still optimistic about shaq's condition. i truely don't believe shaq was trying his hardest in miami to put up 7-10 shots a game... i mean he is averaging close to 15 pts in 20-30 mins with only 10 shot attempts per game. someone check those stats for me cuz im not 100 percent sure but it was close to those numbers.

now if shaq was only able to score 15pts shooting up 20 shots per game it would be a different story, and dont get me wrong i dont expect him to put up 20 shot attempts at his age during the season, however people who know basketball know the suns have him for the playoffs. so lets see

its like i said, he is still better than alot of the centers in the nba right now so i dont see it being completly bad for the suns. also imo shaq has always played lazy during the regular season and tries to pick it up come playoff time, thats the only time the suns actually even need him on the court.

was marion worth more than shaq? yeah, no doubt about that. still the suns are going for this year, all or nothing. if they wanted to plan for the future they could have traded marion for picks and young players.

in the end i think the suns are a better playoff basketball team with shaq. call me crazy if you will i can take it. either way only time will tell if they trade was worth it or not.

Hi... it's my first post.... I ever read this threads but this is my first opinion...

Please stop looking Shaq like the one in the 90's... He was brought to Phx because they need interior defense in the playoffs, to stop Duncan, Chandler, Oberto to name somebody...

I know that he's almost 36... but see in this way... Shaq has 2 years of contract at $20M, Marion + Banks was about $18M i guess (maybe i'm wrong) Marion could have opt out of his max contract and became a free agent, and Phx could have lost i'm for nothing or at least a sign and trade like the Hornets made for Stojakovic (and the Pacers got a 2nd round draft pick and the rights of one drafted in 1996 ¬¬, in other words, nothing)

I guess Shaq will retire at the end of the contract, and if the Suns win the trophy i guess that he will do that and the suns will get a lot of cap space so they can sign Strawberry to a long term contract, or maybe another C

The problem of the backup PG is not a big one, Strawberry is a rookie and he can learn a lot of Nash, and he was playing well in the Development League, and Diaw can play some attacks as a Point Foward.

Phoenix never had a C since the Alvan Adams time (when they arrived to the Finals vs Boston), Amare is a PF, thats the true, and Shaq will take the C for about 25 minutes

He will start every game, but won't play much more than that, then amare moves to C, Diaw to PF, Hill SF, Bell SG Nash PG

At last... i read that the suns doesnt have somebody to guard Parker, you can have Bell... but for Nowitzki... That si were Marion will be missed...

But all is a gamble... If the Suns won the Trophy Kerr will be loved for ever and the trade is the best of the best (a way of saying :P) but if they lose to San Antonio becuase of Duncan... Kerr is hated by everybody

Saludos desde Argentina. Alejandro :)

What a stupid ass trade for the Suns, they lose one of the most versatile players ever, and one of the best defenders, to replace him with a broken fat ass who gets injured every 2 minutes...Phoenix' defense was already not that great, but now it'll be pathetic...

I could actually see Phoenix win it all this year with Shaq aboard. The next 2 seasons could be tough though, kind of like what happened in Miami after their championship year.

I think Shaq could certainly prove everybody wrong, but he's been so unhealthy in the past few years, it's not so much about doubting his efficiency on court (even though it did naturally go down along the years), it's more about questioning the state of his joints and bones...

If i were an assistant for the miami heat, I would train marcus banks hard in defense and hopefully he'll improve in stealing. The heat needs a small forward and a point gaurd now. The heat are going young which they should have done last season.
