Best cast of All-time?

Fri Jan 25, 2008 2:48 pm

So, what movie do you guys think it has the best cast of actors? Maybe one of the Godfather movies? For the younger ones, Ocean's Eleven? Pulp Fiction? Glengarry Glen Ross?

Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:16 pm

The Godfather Part II.

If only Brando could've been it for even a flashback.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:24 pm

It depends what you mean by "best"... as far as most popular/most star appeal one of the new Oceans movies for sure... at least in my lifetime anyway. I think the cast of Stand By Me were brilliant, especially considering the main guys were all kids.

River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, Kiefer Sutherland, John Cusack, Richard Dreyfus... written by Stephen King and directed by Rob Reiner (This Is Spinal Tap, Misery, A Few Good Men, Sleepless In Seattle, When Harry Met Sally etc)

The Thin Red Line for me, beautifully crafted movie.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:02 am

I agree with Jae, Stand by Me had one of the most amazing casts ever. Although my personal choice's got to be Apocalypse Now (Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, Harrison Ford, Larry Fishburne)

Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:52 am

The one that comes to mind is Black Hawk Down but yeah the Ocean movies.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:59 am

i agree with everything mentioned already and would like to throw in the cast for crash. a good side question to this topic would be, what do you consider the worst movie with the most talent to work with? for me you can pretty much go with any of the batmans, well not any exclude the original and the bale one). also would throw in "the quick and the dead"

Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:05 am

I thought that the cast of The Usual Suspects was also supremely cast.

The cast of Sin City also comes to mind. Pitt & Norton in Fight Club is also a favorite.

Basquiat, Traffic.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:32 am

usual suspects is a great movie, it should be mandatory viewing.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 12:17 pm

Good list Jackal, I've heard of all those movies, but have only seen about 50% of them. Only film on there I disapprove of is "Crash". I never understood why people like that movie, or why it won Best Picture.

I <3 the new quick and the dead: it had great talent and was terrible on purpose. It was so overdone and so epic and so bad you have to love it...

anyway: Worst movie with best talent for me would be either Grindhouse or Sin City, I like rodriguez' Mariachi Trilogy, but i just cant handle those 2 flicks

Best cast of all time: The Godfather I and II are tied for me because you trade De Niro and Brando...Also, I would like to second the Stand By Me and add one of my one: American Grafitti, all the stars, but youngins...its fantastic.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 2:59 pm

ok lets see here, from jackels list i have seen......

Sat Jan 26, 2008 3:40 pm

I love you Jackal.

That's basically the exact same list I'd recommend and rank among my favorites. I'd add Irreversible, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and maybe Garden State.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:56 pm

And American Psycho right...you're all just leaving it off because it's obvious right?

Oh, and Demolition Man, but that's even more obvious.

Sun Jan 27, 2008 2:43 am

Great list, Jackal. I've seen most of those movies. I find it to be a little obvious, though, and it's missing some movies I find to be amazing.

Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man is amazing. He's badass and funny. Even if you combine Snipe's characters from other movies like Blade, Undefeated, White Men Can't Jump, US Marshals, Money Train, etc. Those combined characters can't still be funny and badass at the same time as Simon Phoenix.

Movie sucked major compared to the book. I own the DVD, but can't say I enjoyed it as much as the book. Christian Bale makes it worthwhile, but the others just ham through the movie.

Tue Jan 29, 2008 12:37 am

departed.. damon, di caprio, nicholson...

Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:15 am

Fuck yeah, Peachy, I was about to post this one but the forum was down.

Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:27 am

The cast of boys n the hood.

Tue Jan 29, 2008 6:45 am

Godfather still stands tall. I see I + II like one long ass movie, so Brando, Pacino, Duvall, Caan, Pacino & Keaton. Gotta love it.

And maybe not the best movie/cast ever...but as a guy, you can't not love it:

Liking Pacino much? Where's the love for Bobby?

Tue Jan 29, 2008 5:42 pm

mars attacks! is right up there in terms of star appeal/power on its cast, couldn't say the same for the plot though against other timeless movies that were already posted above...

Tue Jan 29, 2008 8:55 pm

Hahaha, sorry Drex, the second Pacino was supposed to be DeNiro.
