NBA Live 08 PC Issues (Bug List & Information)

Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

Yes (after you suggested it), and I did not find that it increased how much players fatigued, but rather in theory adjusted how much fatigue affected the players. I did not notice anything different, but it was only 1 game. However, I was able to identify the problem a little bit more: Whenever I call a timeout or the opponent calls a timeout, the players gain way way way too much stamina back. Now I am unsure whether the players fatigue enough during gameplay or if the problem is solely because of the timouts.

I do like the concept of a slider. That would really be nice.

HI sir Andrew this is the bug that really annoys me the sig shots of players are really slow that makes the opposing defender to block their shots..their sig shots should be more fast so that they cant be blocked to often...

i have a solution for those who have the timeout crash problem just get a exe file from the web that should stop the problem.

1. when i call a timeout and when its time to inbound the ball i cannot sub players.

2. i cannot change the controls to the control setting i want before starting the game in dynasty mode it has to be done when the game has started.

3. cannot move when person does the free throw to box out.

4. very bad rosters lots of bad ratings and players not having their images

It seems to me that everytime I play a zone, the first thing the CPU does is take a three...and make it. Even if I defend them.

And the CPU substitution is just ridiculous...LeBron fouled out with nearly 6 mins to go in the 4th and the Cavs leading the game by around 10.

And most of the blocked shots just count as turnovers, not as blocks...

Just to update everyone, I've been sending in all the details we've compiled so far but no word on an update yet. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Add this one to the major list, please.

Many of the generated players in dynasty mode appear with shiny heads while the lighting option is turned on. This is due to an all-white or missing alpha map in many of the files. Cyberfaces plyr075.fsh through plyr125.fsh have an all-white alpha.

There are also several nba players who have a missing alpha map. Tabuse, for example.

After some time i played with my copy of live again.

Here are some thoughts:

How about the cpu not making situational timeouts anymore?

I mean when they are down by 3 or 2 with little time left, they don't call the timeout to advance the ball to midcourt.

And also
i've checked (and rechecked a whole lot) and i found out that more often than not, when you are already past the halfcourt line in your offense, when someone receives a pass more often than not the default animation is a dribble as opposed to a "triple threat" position. This makes it difficult to pull off the receive pass then pump fake/jab steps then dribble move that is usually done in real life.

Speaking of Jab steps and the like
The blow by moves are not really biting anymore... I mean before if you are in the said triple threat position, holding the right analog stick in one direction makes the player do jab steps or positions to do a blow by move, (then pressing left analog stick or going towards that direction initiates the attempt to do so) now it seems that holding the right stick is just for show and has no real use. Since there seems to be no animation for a get away move.

My problem is that cpu palyers are so fast reacting to my shot, they almost every time can jump at the same time, when i jump and shoot, but i cant react so fast on cpu palyers, thats why it quite sucks and every time they jump my shoot misses,it sucks to

i never done this - wrote something about how some game is bad but this is dissapointing.

im playeing nba live serious since 1996, and if you ask me, this is worst nba live ever. im not doubting the look of the game, that very good, but if the game is bad, graphic quality and etc is null

i think that you all know what im talking about:
hard 3ps, players not moving after opponents free throw, coach and banch players are all over the court, in dinasty mode first twenty scorers are over 35ppg, best assisstents are c, and pf, also player who is first in rebounding have about 7 rpg....

i want my money BACK

Andrew wrote:Have you tried increasing the Fatigue Effect to High? Not necessarily the best solution but the best one that's readily available at the moment, in the absence of a slider. It's something for the list though.

I think you forgot to put the fatigue problem in the list at the beginning of the topic.

Just a heads up,

I'm still waiting for the new 360 to come out without the ring of death problem so I bought a copy of the game on PC yesterday. I played the game on Superstar mode with the Cavs against the Spurs. Parker was making 80% of his shots from 3-pointers to lay up while I was shooting full court shots because I'm not used to the buttons yet. That thing with the free throw shot, when did they take out the T-target? The last time I played on PC was i think Live 2000.

I'd like to play more but i'm not done with Might and Magic 5. Hopefully, we'll have patches here that will fix most of the bugs and make it a decent game.
Play On.

Re: NBA Live 08 PC Issues (Bug List & Information)

Postby sneaky13 on Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:03 am

Andrew wrote:No sense in delaying this now that the PC version is starting to become available around the world. I'm compiling a list of the issues in NBA Live 08 as well as user information such as system specs so that we can forward the information on to EA Sports in the hope that a suitable patch is released.

A couple of notes:

Timeout/Quarter Crash: I'm playing a legal copy of the English version of NBA Live 08 on maximum detail settings and I've yet to encounter any of the crashes that a lot of people have been reporting. I've been trying different settings and doing my best to force the game to crash but as yet it's been working fine.

It's possible that there's a hardware conflict or some other problems that are causing this issue for some users and not others. Therefore, when giving feedback about the crashing problem be sure to provide your computer's specs (processor, RAM, video card, etc) and also any other information about the situation when the game crashes. The more info we can provide, the better our chances of getting a fix that addresses the problem for different hardware (if that is indeed the problem).

Please keep the EA bashing to a minimum. Yes, bugs suck. Yes, a lot of us want the Xbox 360/PS3 version ported to the PC. Yes, we want a patch to resolve problems with the game. But let's put this thread to good and productive use. Feel free to vent in any other appopriate thread here in the NBA Live 08 General section.

Feel free to post any issues that may have already been missed as they will be added to the list. Also feel free to add further notes and information to issues that have already been listed. Please note that things like players missing due to the roster cutoff date is not a bug; they're not in the game because they couldn't legally be included. Missing features are not bugs either. Crashes and features malfunctioning on the other hand are bugs.

With that out of the way, let's get down to the issues...

NBA Live 08 PC Issues

Major
  • Simulation stats are unrealistic, with too many players averaging over 30 (and often 40) points per game and guards averaging too few assists with too many big men in the top ten in assists per game. Field goal and three point percentages are also too high with post players shooting a lot of threes and getting a lot of assists when they shouldn't be.
  • There is no way to alter the rotation or change the lineup in Dynasty Mode except when setting the starting lineups before a game.
  • When the CPU is taking a free throw, the user is often locked out from switching control to another defender after the CPU completes the free throw ritual.
  • If the user is control of a player lined up along the key during a free throw, they cannot move until the ball has hit the rim, meaning the user cannot box out the defense or move to get into better position for the rebound.
  • When shooting free throws with the right analog stick, the game often fails to recognise the up/down motion on the right analog and sometimes forces the user to hold the stick in other directions to take the free throw, usually leading to a miss. The function does work on the left analog, however.
  • The CPU team sometimes inbounds to nobody, as though trying to pass to a moving player despite none of its players being in the vicinity.
  • There is no button to toggle between salaries and the interest bars in Dynasty Mode, making it difficult to work out trades.
  • Player Lock is not accessible by default.
  • Too many trades by the CPU in Dynasty Mode.
  • The CPU rarely subs out guards, leaving them to play most of the game. Automatic substitutions still seem too infrequent even with the sliders increased.
Minor
  • Unable to save zoom settings
  • Shot attempts that are blocked count for two missed field goals instead of one.
  • The player indicator remains when the display is disabled in Instant Replay.
  • Players will sometimes commit backcourt violations which are not called when executing a special pass near the halfcourt line.
  • Several players' positions, bio data (date of birth, draft information, etc) and shoes are incorrect.
  • Headshapes are often "lost" when viewing players in Edit Player. Going into a game or Practice Mode then restores the headshape.
  • When you hit the Random Away Player button in One-on-One Mode a couple of times, it randoms the home player instead and vice versa.
  • Replay speed is too fast.
  • Random errors in the boxscores for simulated games, such as displaying only one team (or the same team twice) and outrageous stats.
  • Many of the generated players in dynasty mode appear with shiny heads while the lighting option is turned on. This is due to an all-white or missing alpha map in many of the files. Cyberfaces plyr075.fsh through plyr125.fsh have an all-white alpha. Some default players are also missing alphas.
Requests
  • Release an official update along with the fix.
  • Enable signature shots and other animations currently unassigned (but present in the game files)
  • Make Primacy a visible rating

My specs:

Pentium 4 2.68 GHz
1 GB RAM
256 MB GeForce 6600 (nVidia Drivers v6.14.10.9371)
Windows XP Home (SP2 installed)
Logitech Dual Analog gamepad

We have the same specs but im still suffering Timeout/Quarter Crash. im so tired of re -installing my nbalive 08 english version...
pls help us to solve this problem.....

Hi, I have two (minor) bugs, but one of them really annoys me.
The first one is with putting headbands on rookies' heads. To make one of my 2009 rookies different from an already existing player I had, I went to Edit Player and chose a headband for that rookie. When I play a game, the headband disappears.
Secondly, in the 3-Point Shootout, I found that the player who scores LESS points in the first round moves on to the second round!

Okay, before I returned my game, I had clips of some of the bugs I encountered:

Rebounding glitch: sometimes players move away from the ball when jumping from boards-like in 07

On-Ball Human Team AI defence is seriously loose.

There's a serious travel problem: sometimes, the player will go up for a contested (collision) lay-up, then suddenly pull out of it and shoot a floater.

The others have already been mentioned

My opinion is that it's not happening. If it were going to happen, it wouldn't have taken this long to get info on a fix, and there has been no correspondence from EA regarding any fix.

I think this is also a pre-confirmation that Live 09 for the PC is going to be next-gen, because why would you dedicate resources to making a patch when those resources could be used on the next-gen PC development.

It's sad to see Live 08(as in how bad it is) as the last installment for this generation of the game.
