A few housekeeping matters

Postby Andrew on Thu Nov 22, 2007 8:08 pm

I’d like to apologise for and explain my absence during the past week or so. While I’ve been maintaining updates on the main site, a combination of my day job (and subsequent free time unfortunately coinciding with the downtime we’ve been experiencing), a few personal matters and continued work on projects such as the NLSC roster update for NBA Live 08 have meant that I haven’t been around the Forum as much as I would like. That shouldn’t be the case for much longer as we are still working on a solution to the technical problems we’ve been encountering and while it has taken longer than expected, we should see an end to those issues very soon.

I can certainly understand everyone’s frustration with everything that’s been going on; believe me, it’s been very frustrating for me too, not only as a webmaster trying to provide a service for my fellow video game and basketball enthusiasts but also because as my post count indicates, I’m a keen participant in the Forum as well. I can’t give out too many details about the solution we’re currently working on to correct all these glitches we’re encountering but I do expect it to greatly improve performance and avoid lengthy periods of downtime. More on that soon. At times we may have to completely disable the Forum but we will post notices about that while work is underway. There may be a few hiccups but basically I expect everything to settle down and improve once we’re finished.

Until then, you will likely encounter a few MySQL errors, downtime or slow loading times for the Forum and other problems. We certainly are aware of them and I’m sorry for the inconvenience. As I said, the task of solving these problems with a more permanent fix is ongoing and we expect to have it completed very soon.

A couple of other matters:

I’m still in contact with EA Sports about updates/fixes for NBA Live 08. As soon as I have anything I can post, I’ll be sure to let everyone know the situation. In the meantime, please keep the feedback coming and I’ll keep sending the information to EA Sports in the hopes that a fix is in the works.

I’m also making good progress on the NLSC update. It’s another project that is taking longer than I had anticipated but I want to make v1.00 as detailed as possible (including adjusting ratings for all original players) which has lengthened the process a little, especially given my current schedule. I expect to have it out very soon as well, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. As soon as I get to a point where I feel I’m close to being able to release an update I’m happy with (though as always, further work will be done from release to release) I’ll likely post a specific date.

Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding during these difficulties; it’s certainly been frustrating for all concerned, but I anticipate we are close to a resolution.

Andrew, just so you know, you are one of the most dedicated, polite, and consistent moderators/hosts I've ever been involved with on a public forum. I am a moderator on other forums and believe me, I know what kind of a chore it can be to not lose your temper at some of the idiots in the crowd. Kudos to that & keep up the good work.

Andrew, please answer this question:

I have modified my avatar just now. I had a signature, now I don't have it anymore.

When I try to edit my profile, there isn't any possibility to edit the signature, I CAN'T HAVE a signature.

Please explain me, why?
