Staff Hiring

Assistant Head Coach
Javier Souza C
Javier Souza was signed for 739k per year for three years. His strength is development, in which he rates A-. His leadership and understanding of the league are suspect as he rates a D for gauging rumors and an F for leadership.

Assistants
David Ribiero C
David was the first assistant hired, for 681k per year for two years. The 48-year old is a strong defensive mentor with an A rating. He lacks in offensive and athletics training, rating C- and D, respectively.

Victor Carvalho C-
Victor was hired shortly after David for 522k per year for two years. The 51-year old's metality is in tune with David's, with an A rating in defensive training. He also happens to be a rebounding specialist. His ability to improve offence and athletics, however, is very poor, rating D- and F, respectively.

Fotios Erol C
The Hornet's took a flyer on Fotios, signing the 41-year old for 624k for one year. He has an A- defensive training rating. The team has attempted to grab the offensively focused Rafael Moya but underbid and refused to offer more, leading Rafael to sign with Sacramento. He has a C offensive training rating and a D- athletics training rating.

Scout
Dil Roman D-
Dil was hired for 197k a year for three years. He rates a C- on appraising offensive ability and Fs on defensive ability and athletics. He will be supplemented by an already strong scouting team.

Trainer
Jamey Martinez F
Jamey was hired for a minimal 91k for a one-year period. He has no specialty.

October 28-November 3
Record: 3-0

October 28 - New Orleans 106 @ Minnesota 104 (OT)
Hornets Box Score | Timberwolves Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Bobby Jackson

The Hornets began their season with a win, but it did not come as easily as it perhaps should have. Playing against the Garnett-less Timberwolves in the season opener, New Orleans required overtime to squeak out a 106-104 victory. David West's 3-of-16 shooting certainly was a hinderance and led to his frequent benching in favour of second-year big Hilton Armstrong.

The game remained close till the final seconds of the fourth quarter. The Hornets thought they had the game wrapped up with a Peja Stojakovic three-pointer to put his team up 93-91 with less than ten seconds left but Antoine Walker hit a shot with seconds left to force overtime.

In the extra five minutes, the game continued to be a battle. Al Jefferson was beastly, contributing heavily in overtime to his 27-point, 15-rebound performance but Paul, Stojakovic and Peterson remained steady, eeking out the win on a Paul jumper.

October 30 - New Orleans 88 @ Minnesota 78
Hornets Box Score | Timberwolves Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Hilton Armstrong

The rematch went a little more as expected as the Hornets cruised to an 88-78 victory in Minnesota. While Al Jefferson had another impressive game with 17 points, 9 rebounds and a pair of blocks and steals his counterpart David West had a much improved game tallying 15 points and 10 rebounds. With the game essentially over by the end of the third quarter, New Orleans brought out their reserves and rookies to hold off the Wolves.

Peja Stojakovic led scorers with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting and all starters reached double figures in scoring. Rookies Julian Wright and Adam Haluska recorded their first NBA points. On the other side, rookie Corey Brewer showed flashes with 7 points and solid defence in 15 minutes.

The only downpoint was in the third quarter when Hilton Armstrong and then David West went down with injuries. They both would return to the game; Armstrong, however, was diagnosed with an arm injury after x-rays and would be sidelined for two weeks.

November 1 - New Orleans 99 @ Portland 86
Hornets Box Score | Trailblazers Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Tyson Chandler
Energizer Energy Performer: Tyson Chandler

Another blowout against a rebuilding team for New Orleans though it took a quarter to pull together. The first quarter was plagued by solid play by Channing Frye, Brandon Roy and Greg Oden and the Blazers found themselves ahead 22-18. The second quarter, however, was a very different story. Suffocating defence by the Hornets, with big blocks by Tyson Chandler and rookie Julain Wright, who each ended with 3, led to numerous fast breaks and easy buckets. The third quarter was very similar to the second and allowed Chris Paul and the other starters some resting time. The fourth quarter was turned over to the reserves, spearheaded by Jannero Pargo's point play with Rasual Butler on the wing and Julian Wright's defensive prowess playing both forward positions. Wright finished with 4 points, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Fellow rookie Adam Haluska netted 7 points in 7 minutes. While Chandler has only recorded one double-double, he finished with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, 9 rebounds (6 offensive), 2 steals and 3 blocks while leading the team with 40 minutes.

Despite a 3-0 opening to the season, the Hornets have yet to encounter true opposition. They also appear very weak on the boards: they were outrebounded on the offensive boards 15-10 by Portland, 5 of which belonged to Oden in a strong 12-point, 11-rebound, 4-steal, 1-block performance. Especially with Hilton Armstrong sidelined, the Hornets' front court is very thin. They could look to free agency to add size and bodies.

Coach Scott Speaks

On expectations, his players, possible future ones and hair styles.

The New Orleans Hornets have come out of the gates streaking. Granted, their opposition has been a little lame but the team has been able to put teams away within 36 minutes. "There is no reason that we don't make the playoffs and win 45 games," said coach Byron Scott, "We were hampered by injuries last year. If we can stay healthy we should have no problems. Anything less would be upsetting." On top of having a hopefully healthy Peja Stojakovic and Chris Paul, the Hornets return two young and improving big men in Tyson Chandler and David West. "The two are a great tandem. In David we have a scorer who can step out and come at you inside and is a dependable rebounder. Tyson is our bruiser, our wall. Our very tall wall. Chicago would have had a championship calibre team if it had stuck with their Twin Towers. We are very lucky to have such a defensive stalwart in Tyson."

On top of that, the Hornets picked up a disgruntled Morris Peterson, outbidding the Utah Jazz for his services, signed veteran Melvin Ely and drafted forward Julian Wright and sharpshooter Adam Haluska. "Getting Mo was a coup. We have two starters that can hit three-pointers with their eyes closed and will intend to use that to our advantage." The team has also become very strong at the wing and point guard position should an injury befall the team; however, as is visible with Hilton Armstrong's injury, the team is woefully thin up front. "We have four guys on our roster who are listed as power forwards or centres, sure," notes Scott, "but look at the size we have otherwise: Peja, 6-10, Julian, 6-8, Marcus, 6-8, Ryan, 6-9. We don't have a dearth of height if we need to cover it. And also, push come to shove, with Chris at the point, we can run. I'd prefer to play with the set plans we have, but Chris is a very capable decision maker and will only improve. He is a fantastic talent. I feel like I can disappear from the bench for a quarter, let him just play as he would like and we would still suceed." Awfully high praise for CP3. "I wouldn't do that because I'd be out of a job so fast, but he's amazing."

As for the swirling rumor regarding a new addition to the team, Scott said "certainly with Hilton out we might consider it" and proceeded to not disconfirm the names of Larry Turner, Elton Brown and Alan Henderson.

And finally, the obligatory hair style conversation. "I will never, ever let my players run around with that grungy look. It's very unprofessional. A clean head is very disciplined. When I look at it that way, it doesn't hurt that I have less work to appear disciplined." I guess that's reassuring to fans that Mike Dunleavy will never appear in a Hornets' jersey unless he dons a different coif.

November 4 -November 10
Record: 7-0

November 4 - Atlanta 82 @ New Orleans 95
Hawks Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Tyson Chandler

The Hornets took their home opener in grand fashion wrecking the rebuilding Hawks 95-82. The game was in the home team's hand until a late slip in the closing minutes of the third. The Hawks cut a double-digit lead to 2 on numerous missed shots by Peja Stojakovic. With less than a minute in the quarter, however, Melvin Ely slammed a huge jam down and picked up the foul with it. His free throw missed, but Stojakovic was there for the rebound and easy score and another foul shot, which he missed. From there, the Hornets closed out quickly, leaving them with a comfortable lead and the reserves to finish the game.

It was a huge defensive game for the home team with three players tallying 5 steals and finishing with 21 in total. Stojakovic had trouble manning up with Josh Smith, but a few well executed pick-and-dishes to free him up led to uncontested shots. In this play, Tyson Chandler would set a deep screen for Chris Paul who would draw Smith in away from the perimeter, opening up Stojakovic for the deep two or three-pointer.

Things became difficult for the Hornets when reserve centre Melvin Ely went down with a neck injury in the second. He returned to the game after halftime but will have to sit out for the next two weeks with neck spasms. With two big men on the shelf the front office signed center Larry Turner. He will join the squad for their next game.

November 6 - Chicago 89 @ New Orleans 92
Bulls Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Morris Peterson

When nothing else was working, Morris Peterson came to the rescue and in spite of 10 turnovers by Chris Paul the Hornets pulled out an unexpected 92-89 win. With Melvin Ely and Hilton Armstrong on the IR, New Orleans signed Larry Turner to help fill the void at centre and opted for Ryan Bowen opposed to Marcus Vinicius to fill the last active roster spot. Bowen proved to be quite an asset, compiling 4 points and 2 steals in 12 minutes. Rasual Butler also provided a solid bench performance, subbing in for Peja Stojakovic early in the game for a better defensive match-up for Luol Deng, who ended the game with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Butler had 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Chicago led for most of the game, ceding the lead only in the fourth. Morris Peterson was the king of clutch, hitting 11-of-19 shots, many of which were in the final frame. He hammered in the final nail with a deep two to give the Hornets a 92-87 lead.

November 8 - New Jersey 83 @ New Orleans 93
Nets Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Tyson Chandler
Energizer Energy Performer: Tyson Chandler

Another nailbiter at home for the Hornets and a game much closer than the 93-83 score indicates. The two teams swapped control of the lead throughout the game until halfway through the fourth quarter. With the score 77-75 in the Nets favor, Chris Paul hit a deep fadeaway followed by five succesive points rolled off by Morris Peterson, who ended the game with a team-high 22 points. Those three shots appeared to cripple the morale of the Nets who fell quickly from that point onward.

Tyson Chandler put on an absolute clinic on effective post play with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, 19 rebounds including 5 on the offensive glass, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. On the opposite end, rookie Julian Wright started in place of Peja Stojakovic and while he only played 5 minutes, Stojakovic played 29 minutes and racked up a measely 6 points on 2-for-10 shooting. He has averaged under 15 points since the opening games against Minnesota. Since his defence is suspect at best and his movement is hardly fluid, without his shot he will find himself in the doghouse. Rasual Butler has continued to be a strong presence off the bench, proving to be a capable defender of athletic swingmen in addition to hitting his fair share of shots.

November 10 - Philadelphia 86 @ New Orleans 94
76ers Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Tyson Chandler
Energizer Energy Performer: Rasual Butler

Andre Miller was unstoppable for most of the game but the Hornets dominated when it counted. The 76ers led by as many as 16 points but let their lead slip away and with under two minutes the home team took their first lead of the game, 86-84. A few free throws and solid defence later, the game was over.

Miller's 25 points were a big part of Philadelphia's early success, even without Andre Iguodala. He drove at will and no one could contain him. When he sat down, however, the Hornets would climb back. Peja Stojakovic's shooting woes certainly did not make it any easier - he was a horrid 3-for-18 including 0-for-7 from three-point territory - and was benched freqently in favor of Rasual Butler, who finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Hilton Armstrong made his return to the court to help shore up the front line and while he freed up a spot on the injured reserve, Jannero Pargo went down with a hyper-extended knee. At least it makes it easier to choose a back-up point guard for the next six weeks.

November 11 -November 17
Record: 8-1

November 13 - New Orleans 119 @ Phoenix 112 (OT)
Hornets Box Score | Suns Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Morris Peterson

The Hornets maintained their perfect record with a surprising victory over the Phoenix Suns in overtime. With Raja Bell was sidelined with an injury and Steve Nash spent most of the game on the bench in foul trouble the huge edge the Suns had coming into the game was slightly negated [but the result was still shocking nonetheless.

Peja Stojakovic broke out of his shooting slump netting 19 points and Morris Peterson hit key baskets en route to 15 points but it was Chris Paul who stole the stat line show with 24 points, 20 assists and 7 steals.

New Orleans had a chance to upend the Suns with 24 seconds on the game clock in the fourth but a turnover with 5 seconds left doused that chance and forced overtime. Nash, big in the minutes he was on the court, fouled out with 3:41 left in overtime leaving Marcus Banks and D.J. Strawberry to man the point for the remainder of the game. With just 60 seconds left on the clock Stojakovic commandeered an errant Amare Stoudamire pass to maintain a 116-112 lead. 3 hit free throws later the final buzzer sounded with a dejected home team slumping off to a 4-4 start to the season. The victors, however, take their perfect record into Los Angeles to take on a formidable opponent, though their record does not indicate it.

November 16 - New Orleans 92 @ LA Clippers 99
Hornets Box Score | Clippers Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Elton Brand
Energizer Energy Performer: Morris Peterson

The Clippers handed the Hornets their first loss of the season after a catastrophic meltdown. Midway through the fourth quarter the Clippers mounted a serious comeback against the Hornets' reserves which prompted a return to the starting line-up. They, however, couldn't stop the momentum the home team had swung in their direction, leading them to outscore the visitors 44-23. Morris Peterson gave a heroic effort at the end, hitting consecutive three pointers and blocking a breakaway lay-up, but his play alone could not resurrect a listless Hornet roster.

Following the game, Melvin Ely was activated from the injured reserve list and while neither he nor Hilton Armstrong, injured in the game, will be 100% Ryan Bowen has emerged as a capable back-up undersized power forward. Tyson Chandler, who was running a four-game double-double streak, was limited to just 2 points and 3 rebounds though he did contribute 4 blocks.

get rid of that really light blue font

It's the team's color so I don't think I'm going to drop it. Plus, I only use it for headers and to note my team in the standings or my players relative to the league.

November 17 -November 23
Record: 10-2

November 18 - New Orleans 71 @ Seattle 61
HornetsBox Score | SuperSonics Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Tyson Chandler
Energizer Energy Performance: Morris Peterson

While the game started off downhill for the Hornets, they played a dominating 36 minutes after that. Tyson Chandler had 18 rebounds and Morris Peterson had 20 points to lead New Orleans to a league-best 9 wins. Seattle's prized rookie Kevin Durant was held to 4 points on 2-of-7 shooting but had 2 steals in 24 minutes. The game was pretty uneventful but with the victory New Orleans and division rival the Dallas Mavericks are now tied for the best records in the NBA and have a meeting in two days.

November 20 - Dallas 85 @ New Orleans 89
Mavericks Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Morris Peterson

The game was marred by injuries but it was a nailbiter till the bitter end. Jason Terry started off in street clothes; Dirk Nowitzki was injured in the first quarter, though he would return later in the game; David West left the game and will be out for 2 weeks with a neck injury; Peja Stojakovic disappeared for a quarter and will be sidelined for the next game; Devin Harris was injured on a lay-up attempt in the third. In spite of these injuries, the game ended up living up to the hype. Dallas led comfortably for the first 40 minutes of the game, looking like New Orleans' record was inflated by the poor opposition they had faced. Then Morris Peterson stepped up. While plagued earlier by pesky defence and shooting woes, he stepped up and hit some key shots and while shooting 3-of-15 overall, Peja Stojakovic hit the go-ahead three-pointer. Stingy defence and Morris Peterson's four free throws (of six) sealed the deal in the closing seconds.

With David West sidelined, Julian Wright stepped up and in 20 minutes recorded 9 points and 4 rebounds. He and Hilton Armstrong, who had 5 rebounds in the contest, will be counted on to fill the minutes for the next two weeks.

November 23 - New Orleans 90 @ Atlanta 96
Hornets Box Score | Hawks Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Joe Johnson
Energizer Energy Performer: Julian Wright

With so many players injured and with Chris Paul in foul trouble all game it was amazing that the Hornets held on for so long. Marvin Ely and Ryan Bowen each took minutes at power forward but the key player to register at that position was rookie Julian Wright who, in 30 minutes, had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Tyson Chandler was a beast on the defensive end, registering 13 defensive rebounds and 5 blocks. Offensively, Morris Peterson carried the team with his 26 points on 50% shooting, though it would have been higher if not for having the honor of trying to hit the desperation threes at the end.

While a disappointing way to end the week the Hornets can relish in their victory over the Mavericks and the exemplary play of Tyson Chandler and floor general Chris Paul.

November 24 - December 7
Record: 14-5

November 25 - New Orleans 120 @ Toronto 126
Hornets Box Score | Raptors Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Bosh
Energizer Energy Performer: Bobby Jackson

It may be a long couple of weeks without David West. Julian Wright, netting 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and Melvin Ely and Ryan Bowen filled in well but could not fill the void West had left. In a high scoring game, with each team scoring 39 points in the final frame, scoring was not a problem. Toronto led for most of game, ceding control in the final minutes and then going on a significant run. Juan Dixon hit 7-of-8 free throws to counter late threes by Peja Stojakovic and Morris Peterson giving the Canucks the win. Bobby Jackson continued to hold his own off the bench with 20 points and 5 assists in 24 minutes.

November 27 - New Orleans 94 @ Milwaukee 86
Hornets Box Score | Bucks Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Tyson Chandler

The Hornets seemed a little more comfortable without David West this game. Ryan Bowen came off the bench and recorded 6 points and 7 rebounds and 4 players reached double figures as New Orleans slipped in the third quarter but coach Byron Scott maintained the team's composure and commanded the fourth quarter to the tune of 33-17. The stingy Hornets harrassed sharpshooter Michael Redd, leaving him with 15 points on the night and while 4 other players reached double figures, with the exception of Charlie Bell, the bench was effectively shut down. Yi Jianlian had 3 points and a rebound in 18 minutes.

November 28 - Denver 98 @ New Orleans 89 (OT)
Nuggets Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Allen Iverson
Energizer Energy Performer: Tyson Chandler

Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony combined for 46 points and a defense that held the Hornets to 35% shooting led the Nuggets to victory on the road. Altering the line-up drastically, Melvin Ely got the nod over Tyson Chandler and put up 5 points, 8 rebounds and a block in 24 minutes while Chandler recorded 8 points, 19 rebounds and a block.

With mere seconds on the clock and a chance to break the tie, Peja Stojakovic threw a pass right into the awaiting hands of Anthony. While there wasn't enough time to win it in regulation, overtime was a walkover for Denver, outscoring their opponents 14-5 on some vintage Iverson moves.

November 30 - Minnesota 83 @ New Orleans 103
Timberwolves Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Julian Wright

Another cakewalk for the Hornets against the rebuilding Timberwolves. Morris Peterson had 26 points on 10-for-13 shooting and with an even contribution from all members the home team controlled the game through and through.

December 2 - Minnesota 107 @ New Orleans 93
Timberwolves Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Randy Foye
Energizer Energy Performer: Melvin Ely

A shocking loss for the Hornets after three straight victories over the retooling Timberwolves. Gerald Green and Al Jefferson gave Minnesota fans hope, scoring 20 and 14 points, respectively. Jefferson also led all rebounders with 22. Theo Ratliff threw in a great game as well with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 6 steals. For the home team, Peja Stojakovic appeared to rediscover his shot, going 11-for-21 for 26 points but the supporting cast could not aid his performance. Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul both had double-doubles in the loss.

December 4 - Sacramento 88 @ New Orleans 96
Kings Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Rasual Butler

After being handed an embarrassing home loss, the Hornets began the game sluggish and appeared in line for another spanking at the hands of a bottom-dweller; the third quarter, however, saw the Hornets of the first few games with strong defense and a potent offence. Maybe it was the return of David West, appearing in his first game in almost two weeks. Peja Stojakovic torched his former team for 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting, but also pitched in with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. The floor captain was the real star with 23 points, 11 assists and 6 steals.

December 6 - Boston 83 @ New Orleans 92
Celtics Box Score | Hornets Box Score

Nike Player of the Game: Chris Paul
Energizer Energy Performer: Rasual Butler

The Celtics came into the season with very high expectations with their Big Three; they left New Orleans with a loss and 55 points from their Big Three, 35 of them from Ray Allen. Outside of Allen, however, Boston did little offensively or defensively. Peja Stojakovic had 27 points and Rasual Butler combined with Bobby Jackson off the bench for another 27. It seems that only one of Stojakovic and Morris Peterson can be on as Peterson has averaged just 6.3 points in the past 3 games. Chris Paul had 14 points and 14 assists but a paltry 10 turnovers.

- get screen shots or something, right now it isn't that pretty to look at
- and also use real banners, dont just stretch out an image it looks cheap. good luck!

I tried to find a banner but to no avail. Also, look up my past dynasties. I can't get good screen shots as my video card isn't great.

Thanks for reading and the constructive criticism

A Strong Euro

Three top international prospects declare for the draft.

Sanel Nagy, Petr Radjo and Bogdan Ljubuski are three of the top young international talent and their declaration for the 2008 draft has vaulted them up the draft boards. Nagy, a 6'11 234-pound forward, hails from Slovakia though has moved to play in Italy; Radjo, a 6'10 253-pound power forward-center, was born and continue to play in Croatia; and Ljubuski, a 6'4 193-pound guard-forward, comes from Georgia but plays in Russia. "All three will impact the league. The only question will be the extent," raves one Eastern conference scout.

Ljubuski is the eldest of the bunch at 24. He is most comfortable at the small forward position, though his size is a bit of a drawback. He's a prolific shot blocker and a pure shooter, a rare combination of raw offensive and defensive ability. "The biggest knock on Bogdan is his playing sense. Somtimes he seems lost at both ends of the floor. When he's on though, he's incredible," says a Western conference scout.

Radjo, 23, is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. He goes to the rim hard and with his body, few people want to get in the way. "He's great on offense," claims one scout, "and he's not bad on defense either but his rebounding is a little weak for a man his size. He'll pull down a bit more than the average rebound but he doesn't get off the ground very much." He is also easily the strongest player of the draft. The allure of his size, youth and mouth-watering potential make him a coveted draft pick.

Finally, there is Nagy who is only 20. "Andrea Bargnani was hailed as the next Nowitzki," reminds one of our aforementioned scouts, "that crown should more likely have been given to Sanel." He is a natural small forward though he can shift over to power forward. He has phenomenal range and an array of inside moves and unlike Ljubuski he picks up sets with ease. "He gets outclassed, even in Europe, at the four on defense and on both boards but he is too fast for most of the power forwards in the any league." He has great ball control, a rare skill in a big man, and is counted on regularly to step up with the game on the line - and he delivers. "He's going to be a steal if he goes outside of the top 2," raves one scout.

All three players are currently anticipated to be top 5 picks.

Try using this instead:
Code: Select all
[color=#008da9]

It's the correct colour, and is much easier to read.

Edit: And
Code: Select all
[color=#212e84]
is the correct purple.

Also if you can't sue pictures, at least use player headshots from espn.com and team logos or something, right it is kinda ugly, but the writing is good.
