NBA Live 08 PC Issues (Bug List & Information)

Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

Postby ladorin1 on Tue Oct 30, 2007 9:25 am

As for the simulation engine. It really isn't quite as bad a few seasons into the dynasty. I have been simulating a dynasty and I am around my 7th or 8th season now and other than the big men shooting 3pters and leading assist totals everything else seems to have sort of fixed itself. The scores are down and nobody is averaging insane numbers anymore.

- One player has won Most Improved Player of the year every single time since entering the league on my 2nd dynasty season. I ended up acquiring the guy through free agency after his 3rd win I believe and despite no notable improvement in his ratings (they have gone up slightly as he is still rather young...about 1 ovrl a year) he keeps on getting the award while players I focus all my 3 assistants on who gain ca. 6 ovrl a year get beaten by the MIP.

- The back court violation glitch is still in the game. This was one of the biggest reasons I stopped playing Live 07 because it wasn't much fun being able to beat CPU teams whatever amount to 0. Basically you can force the computer to make a back court violation each and every time they attack.

- As others have mentioned earlier - obvious backcourt violations are not being called while computer also tends to simply walk out of bounds at times.

- Timeouts do not stop the clock immediately. If CPU (could be human controlled issue also but I haven't noticed it) calls a timeout while the ball is in play (for example after a steal) the clock won't stop when the timeout whistle is blown, but rather it plays down until the cutscene starts.
I have noticed it two times in total now. The first time CPU called a timeout just before the end of the game. Time ran out. the timeout cutscene was played and then the final score sheet came up.
The other time CPU stole the ball with ~2.5 seconds left and immediately called a timeout. The time kept tickinging away and when play resumed after the timeout there was just 0.2 left on the clock.

- I have noticed that there is something that sometimes stops CPU from taking a shot late in a close game (last possession). Though down by one or two they don't take the shot though open and just run the clock down. I don't know what it is that sometimes triggers it but perhaps someone can add to it.

- I had one occasion where Gilbert Arenas was tied up during his layup attempt, fell to the ground after taking the shot (it missed) and just wouldn't stand up. He was sitting under my opponents basket for about a minute before I finally made a basket in one of my following attacks. While this is an annoying bug this one at least has comedy value. It was less than 3 minutes left in a close game and Arenas was just sitting under the basket with play going back and forth. :D

- The players still walk to the wrong benches between quarters.

- The commentators are more off than they are on with what they are saying.

- When using intervene simulation to enter the game in the 4th quarter or overtime whatever points, rebounds, etc. players have so far are all counted as 1st half stats in the pop-up stats that sometimes appear on the screen during the game.

- When using the "enter the game at a decisive point" feature in the 4th quarter the commentators behave as if the quarter was just starting even if there is just a mere 15 seconds left to play.

- The players still "slide" on the floor with blazing speed sometimes when receiving a pass and continuing to a dunk. It doesn't seem to happen as often as it used to in previous versions, but you still get it on occasion that a center gets the ball near FT line slides a few meters and then jumps for a dunk from under the basket.

Beatboxer wrote:MAJOR GAMEPLAY ISSUES :

- Player always stops while taking a pass, and then continues( ****This is the most annoying for me, cuz it blocks fluid gameplay !)

- Opponent AI goes under the basket and stops even when he's free !

- "BIG MAN" always dominates the paint with go-to-moves&fadeaway shots ! (Have you ever tried defending Amare ??? If you have tried, you can understand what i mean !!! )(He can't be that quick !)

- You can't move your selected player when someone takes a Free Throw !

- AI Point Guard does so many "backdowns" through the FT line !

- Sometimes right analog stick doesn't work ! Even when you rotate it, player stands still !

- Too many unseen "backcourt" violation !

- Too many unseen "out of bounds" violation !

IN ADDITION:

- Opponent Last Defender stands still in front of the FT line especially on transitions. So paint area gets way too empty for an easy score ! (Generally scoring with Center Position !)

- "Replay System" doesn't work good. I'm sure all basketball fans who are watching or playing the game wanna see replays of the alley-oops. But in NBA Live 08, no replay !!! This was just an example. Also, a number of beautiful moves like post moves, 360 turn and shot&layup&dunk don't have replays !!!

NBA Live 08 inconvinience

Postby dyep1010 on Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:30 am

I'm really sad... I bought NBA Live 08 PCDVD... The gameplay is slightly better than NBA Live 07, but the game has one terrible bug... Everytime the first quarter ends the game crashes to desktop...

How can we fix that?

don't let us down... The game is unplayable... Keeps crashing constantly...

I'm not the only one complaining about that...

PLEASE make a solutions for this bug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My specs:

Intel Pentium 4 1.8GHZ (Service Pack 2)
256MB GeFORCE 5500
512RDRAM

Here are some of the Bugs I experienced.

1. The most anoying bug which is very obvious for Live 08 is the very high FG percentage for the CPU player. Even when game sliders where tunned down to at least the 30% bracket for CPU, they are still making CONTESTED shots. Tried lowering the sliders even more to 15% to 20% for Short to Long range shots and somehow the game had realistic shot percentages for the CPU.

2. For player sliders, even if it's tuned to 50% bracket, it's hard to hit open shots even if it is the player's hot-spot

3. Well it has already been posted but the freaking turn around fadeaway go-to-move of CPU superstars are INVINCIBLE! But for player controlled teams, almost everytime superstar go-to-moves in the block are easily blocked! WTF!

4. Sometimes when player controlled PG brings the ball down the court, all other players tend to pause in between the halfcourt line and the three point line until the PG crosses the halfcourt line. It's like they are waiting for the PG to cross before positioning themselves for the play.

5. Auto-subs rarely work even if substitution sliders are up to 100 for both CPU and player controlled teams.

I haven't tried simulating a game yet but hese are some of the bugs I experience when playing in Superstar mode 12 mins.

Haven't experienced any crash yet when substituting or time-outs.

I agree. I hope that the patch will not be like 07 patch which fixed only subs problem.

they will probably not fix these issues (because either they can't or wont) because most issues from 07 are still in 08.

Good job EA

Hello guys! Looks like this might be my first post here... I can't remember...

One weird thing to me: the CPU only subs players at the next freethrow or timeout! No subs at loose ball... When I sub a player in, he's never subbed til I call a timeout... And players with foul trouble never get subbed out if no timeout is called. They'd really like to be fouled out...

i used to have those timeout crashes but i found a link somewhere in this thread that would fix that... no more crashes for me timeout or end of quarter..

out of bounds
superstar dominance ( KingJames scores about 20 in the 1s freakin quarter in every freakin game...)
freethrow boxout
only Cs and PFs constantly subs...(maybe this will be fixed when the roster update comesout with the accurate fatigue settings)

thats about it for me...
Are You READY???

- I actually liked Live 08 at first but now I get the feeling I will never get a good NBA Game for PC ever.

- First off the crash bug was because of the No-DVD crack.

- Many bugs people have mentioned. Thought I would add some more

- Simulated stats are the worst I've ever seen. Checking a random boxscore I saw that Chris Bosh had 12 3's (!). Chris Bosh has hit 20 3's in his career!
Checking lead leaders many players were averaging 30+ points and one in the 40's (Bosh). Steal and block leader was under 1 per game. Ast leader was at 7 per game and most of them big guys. Oh yeah and Bosh was the leader in 3pfg made. I could go on and on. This is REALLY broken.

- No high resolutions (although this has been around for years)

- EA again getting rid of features that have been around for years Player Lock? Does this not exist anymore!?

- The game seem to NEVER remember any settings for camera or auto subs so you have to change it all the time.

- Speaking of Auto subs..hugely broken. I was playing the Lakers in superstar level and Kobe sat out most of the game for no apparent reason. Tmac was never subbed out until he fouled out. Again I could go on and on.

- Weird players taking a bunch of shots eg Lamar Odom taking 35+ shots and Vujacic taking a bunch of shots in a row. This guy is hardly used in real life.

-The same bugs are in Live after Live. Not being able to call time-out after an opponent's made FT, PA announcer mispronouncing players names Replays forget anything after a timeout, Can't save in the middle of a game (this hasn't been around since live 2003 or something?) Can't save replies (again a feature taken out years ago).

- This game is so broken there is no way it will be fixed. Another year with a crappy PC version of Live. Please someone else besides EA make a PC NBA Hoops game!!!

Postby MadbaLL on Wed Oct 31, 2007 10:11 pm

Andrew wrote:NBA Live 08 PC Issues

Major
  • Some users are experiencing crashes after calling timeout or after the first quarter ends.
  • Simulation stats are unrealistic, with too many players averaging over 30 (and often 40) points per game and guards averaging too few assists with too many big men in the top ten in assists per game. Field goal and three point percentages are also too high with post players shooting a lot of threes and getting a lot of assists when they shouldn't be.
  • There is no way to alter the rotation or change the lineup in Dynasty Mode except when setting the starting lineups before a game.
  • When the CPU is taking a free throw, the user is often locked out from switching control to another defender after the CPU completes the free throw ritual.
  • If the user is control of a player lined up along the key during a free throw, they cannot move until the ball has hit the rim, meaning the user cannot box out the defense or move to get into better position for the rebound.
  • When shooting free throws with the right analog stick, the game often fails to recognise the up/down motion on the right analog and sometimes forces the user to hold the stick in other directions to take the free throw, usually leading to a miss.
  • The CPU team sometimes inbounds to nobody, as though trying to pass to a moving player despite none of its players being in the vicinity.
  • There is no button to toggle between salaries and the interest bars in Dynasty Mode, making it difficult to work out trades.
Minor
  • The player indicator remains when the display is disabled in Instant Replay.
  • Players will sometimes commit backcourt violations which are not called when executing a special pass near the halfcourt line.
  • Several players' positions, bio data (date of birth, draft information, etc) and shoes are incorrect.
  • Headshapes are often "lost" when viewing players in Edit Player. Going into a game or Practice Mode then restores the headshape.

i would add two more things to this list. first, there are still some clipping bugs and they need to be fixed. and the second thing is that sometimes i get too many offensive rebounds against cpu.

I dont know if this is a bug or what but does anyone notice that when playing east vs west in all star weekend, go-to moves are a lot more effective...when I use arenas' go-to move in the all-star game, it actually creates space to shoot the ball but when im playing exhibition or dynasty games, it does not create the space needed and it almost always end up in a block. This applies to other go-to moves as well.

I am so disappointed with them taking out the player lock option. My brother and I always play the game together and we both lock onto certain players. Even when I play on my own, I lock onto one player and try to win with my teammates help. It's fun just being one player and trying to get your team to play together and help you win. If I had known they took out this feature, I would not even had bought the game this year. What's the harm in leaving in the option of player lock or not for those of us that like to use it. EA gets a big thumbs down from me on this one! (N)

More Bugs

Postby agentkaos on Thu Nov 01, 2007 7:41 am

1. PG Domination still persists. PG backs down every double, triple team.
2. GoTo moves are ineffective, always blocked esp. the fadeaways.
3. Sometimes PG scared to enter halfcourt!!
4. Big Men make too many shots, catch-and-shoot types.
5. Insanse shooting percentages and/or assist percentages - PG regularly records over 20 dimes and 40 points.
6. 3 Point Shooters have poor percentage, normal guys keep dropping em in. (Nowitzki - 3/15, Parker 6/7)
7. The HotSpots dont really work. CPU pays no attention to them (otherwise it wouldn't have Parker throwing out those treys, would it?
8. I'm using a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2, and dribbling is slow, unresponsive. impossible to do smooth backdowns into spin/rolls.
9. Commentary issues are horrendous - keep informing me that "there has been a switch from zone to m2m or vice-versa" when there really has been no switch.
10. Praising a player and his HotSpot when he MISSES a shot from there.
11. Traffic under basket is negligible! No clogging up, rare contested shots - i guess this goes with the earlier point of easy shots.
12. Insane team FG percentages. I once had the commentator tell me that my team was shooting "very poorly", i Checked and had a 48% FG stat! isn't that good enough for Marv?!
13. User shots hardly fall.
14. Very Very Very easy to steal from the inbounder after a made shot.

And finally, not a bug, but a peeve. Instead of refining Freestyle SuperStars, they removed them altogether (like a failed biological experiment), so now the CPU decides when to make floaters (always) and when to make reverse layups and underarm dimes (never). I'm just so dissapointed. Wondering if you guys can make a proper GAMEPLAY patch?

also, i have a screenshot of a graphical glitch. How do i upload that here?

thanks

I have the same issue on the 3 point shooting, it seems impossible to hit a 3 no matter how open you are...even the spot is hot. I dont know if this is a bug or not. I hope there is some way to resolve this issue.

Substitution is a problem for the AI, the opponent rarely subs out their guards, only the PFs and Centres get subbed out. Please add this to your list Andrew, cause this bug makes the game very unrealistic with only the Centres and Power Fowards subbing in n out and not for the Guards

Mi opinion:

1. In my game always have crash when I use a time out... hardly ever when the cpu use it :?

2. Rosters very bad, many players missing and portraits.

3. One year again, I can't save my autozoom for my camera.

4. Sometimes I have problem to load my roster and my season/dinasty. ( the game return to windows)

5. Ugly hootspot, I like delete it.! ( Not realistic)

6. Terrible simulation engine..!!

7. I can't move my defensive player when the cpu shoot free throw.

8. Before play a game (in the season), I can't choose a team. I have that choose a team into the game :|

Here is another one which I found out a bit later..
On the fourth quarter, When the CPU has the lead, they try to consume the whole 24 seconds in the shot clock and when the shot clock buzzes out they shoot like a frog looking at the roof without the ball which looks like this.Image

- CPU can shoot every where he want and made those shots
- There is still no Off. Fouls on cpu, thats really annoyng when cpu can drive your man down but no foul
- When Simulating Game, none of your subs playing... Only the starters! I'm Playing 3 Minutes for game, simulating 4 minutes- quater... Players only change in simulating, when they fouled- out....
