FIFA 08

Postby The X on Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:11 am

So FIFA '08 has been getting some pretty solid reviews (mostly 8-8.5/10 or thereabouts) for PS3....anyone played it & have any impressions to share?

whilst I know it probably won't have gameplay of PES, it does have licences of A League & so on....just a thought though....since I probably won't get a basketball fix, I'll try & get it with another sport....

I was thinking of picking it up if I saw it cheap for the 360. Not a hardcore soccer fan, so this suits my needs more. On my 2 buy list (and consequently my money to save for list) is: NBA2k8, skate, Football Manager 2008, a DS lite and R4 chip, and then FIFA.

I got a DS Lite a few weeks ago....very good (Y) I've got a Evolution chip (virtually same as R4) coming in next week or two once the online store gets their stock from Europe....

Not a bad game, feels more realistic now and collision is pretty good, players fight each other when running for the ball and the faster or stronger ones usually win out, the AI is a lot smarter and set up some pretty good goals, the be a pro thing is also quite interesting. Other than that its a pretty solid game, if you love football then its pretty much a must buy. Gotta love the commentary also

I picked it up from EB tonight....had a quick run with Roar against Phoenix....it will probably take some getting use to, but seems pretty cool....as you said CMJ, it seems like a pretty solid game....it's probably not as good as Pro Evo, but considering it's got A League in it, I'll give it a bit of a run....

will probably give it a bit more of a go this weekend, if satisfied, I will keep....if not, then I'll return it....figured I couldn't lose with EB....you might pay the extra $10 for a game, but if you don't like it, you can return it within 7 days of purchase for a full refund....the bonus out of it is that I got a $25 voucher off any other 2008 EA Sports titles....so even if I return it, I can use voucher & try out something like Live....although I'll probably hold off on doing that

I got it on release day and I love it. Especially the online modes. But it got some annoyances and small fallbacks that get on my nerves. I'd give it a 4 out of 5. Maybe a 4.5. Defenetily worth getting if you like football. But trying the demo first would be advised (Though the full game is better than the demo, it gives you an idea).

I tried the PC demo and I'd say it is mostly the same. That seems to be the way with all of EA's current gen games these days.

yeah, from initial playback, it seems like a 4 out of 5 game....no more than that though....that seems to align with most reviews (79-85%)....

quick question for everyone....what is the quality of the US MLS like?!? I've noticed that their worst team (Colorado) is rated 1 & 1/2 stars out of 5....that is as good as A League's best teams (Melbourne & Sydney)....is the MLS really that much better than the A League?!? I don't mind playing with them if they are accurate ratings, but I might have to tinker & edit ratings, not too much higher, but just what I know (like those 2 young Roar players, Zullo & Kruse, I'll have to check their ratings as they are quite fast, but I bet EA has rated them low because they are like 18 or 19....they're only like rated 48 overall)....any help would be appreciated....

EDIT: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/features.aspx ... 9&CIPseq=1

According to that Onion guy, A League is better quality than MLS....would like to hear other opinions though....I'm figuring I might rate all these teams about 1 star higher (so from about 2 stars to 2 & 1/2 stars), & make a few edits where I know they've been underrated....

For the current gen version (plus the PC version), seeing some of the previews that they had for the game made it seem like to me it was pretty much the same as 07 (07 was pretty awesome though). One thing that caught my eye after reading this from some players on the IGN board was that goalie's can now get injured and get booked, plus have a field player play in goalie if like your backup also gets injured/sent off or something like that (needless to say, you're field guys would probably suck horribly as goalie). Back in 07, there was pretty much no use for the backup goalie (the computer doesnt even use the backup I think) other than to develop him every now and then, or to have him play when you're #1 goalie gets called for international duty.

as for FIFA 08, damn, there seems to be a little bit of a learning curve....so many controls....will take some time, but I'll get there....

If FIFA got the Chilean League, with a free Pepsi and fries, I'd still get PES.

FIFA Pc Version is old gen, and it's simply a sort of Fifa 07 with roster updates.
Or if you want to name it differently, it's crap.

fifa 07 was not bad at all. so what makes it crap?

it might be a good alternative to PC gamers that cant handle PES graphics
there's so much to do today that i have to set apart more time to pray

or licencing, as is the case with me wanting the A League....could've been pocket football & I would've given it a go if they had the licencing

all that being said, if PES added leagues from around the world (even without names which could be edited anyways), I'd definitely get PES....

There always have been patches to put the real teams in PES.. so Pro Evolution is better than FIFA old-gen in almost all the ways..
The only thing I like of FIFA old-gen is Career Mode (better than Master League of PES).

I'm really looking forward to next-gen FIFA 09 on PC, and the same for NBA LIVE.
The old-gen games are some arcade, the next-gen seem like a real game.

Bye

I don't play games on PC as my PC is like 4 years old or something....I got a PS3 so the FIFA '08 I have is next-gen....I'm pretty sure they can't patch leagues onto PES on PS3, so I'll just have to stick to the inferior product....such is life....

I want to see how Pro Evo 2008 stacks up on next-gen to this year's good FIFA 08.

Of course it's got current-gen stitched up, but...
