GAMEPLAY or GRAPHICS ?

Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

GAMEPLAY or GRAPHICS ?

Postby Beatboxer on Mon Oct 22, 2007 6:32 pm

After seeing the next-gen version of the NBA Live 08, we really expected to have a version like that on PC, didn't we ?

But also, some of us thought, even if we have old-gen graphics, if the gameplay improves with as realistic way, we can clearly choose the old-gen.

So this topic question will determine NBA Live fans as graphic&arcade lovers, and simulation&gameplay lovers.

....Sorry for my bad English....

well, I'd rather say an acceptable combination of both aspects.

But if I had to chose one I'd take 'gameplay' primary!

Gameplay, followed by the depth (and of course, functionality) of game modes. Even if the graphics of the PC/PS2 version seem dated, I have no major gripe with them. Perhaps that's just because I've been playing the games since NBA Live 95 when players were distinguished by some generic facial features such as the hairstyle and facial hair, or maybe because I enjoy playing old games from time to time.

A game with average or even subpar graphics can still be very enjoyable if the gameplay is up to scratch, but in my opinion brilliant graphics cannot salvage the gaming experience if the gameplay and depth of the game are severely lacking.

It's gameplay all the way... As Andrew says... Eye candy can only do so much for a game.

It's like special effects in movies... It doesn't matter if the creation of an effect cost gazillion dollars if the movie is about the effect -> Jurassic Park... Classic movie made because of special effects. Visuals don't make the movie. And visuals have even a lesser effect in the gaming world. Nethack is still one of the most depth filled game in the world and I'm not talking about the dungeon depth. The graphics and non-existant, but it works. The game feels good... It has depth and it has innovation. Like monsters getting petrified when you hit them with a cockatrice carcass etc.

Is this even a valid question??? Gameplay. If you want real graphics, go see a real game... Or in this case a movie...

Gameplay by a mile.

I just hope they improve the net code for the pc version because 07 was a step backwards in my book.I had to tone down graphics to play online to get smoother game play(which did make a difference) in Live 07. Even though i could play it all on full at around 200fps and have adsl2+ , all reports the 360 version plays alot better online so i hope it's a combo of game play and online playability. This is also only playing league games in Australia and not on chEASO.

Graphics 100% and I can't believe you guys think different. Garphics are everything. Gameplay is just an addon to graphics. Thats why I will download NBA Live 08 ot buy it because EA didn't deserve my money for that old-gen PC shit.

Gameplay. Graphics play a factor too but I wouldn't enjoy NBA Live as much if it had good graphics but people couldn't sub out.

Both.
But if I had to choose, gameplay of course. Graphics are certainly easier to improve with patches

It's an unpopular opinion but I had personally alot of fun with NBA Live 07's gameplay. Really, I played it alot more than I played all the others down to 2001 which I used to play simply alot more because I was still in school and thus had alot more free time.

Because of that, I don't really mind to get little additions to NBA Live 08's gameplay since I did love 07 enough to know that I will find things worth playing here. That's why I hoped they would actually upgrade the graphics, since they are very outdated by now. My PC is able to run UT3 and Crysis beta's and Bioshock all maxed out, I'm really expecting even the basic things like quality pixelshading from games these days, not outdated system.

But in the end of the day, it's obviously gameplay over graphics, always has been.

But if I had to choose, gameplay of course. Graphics are certainly easier to improve with patches

Working in software development I must disagree, graphics are a lot harder to upgrade than gameplay since you can fix a gameplay problem or add something to it with few days of work and testing, but upgrading graphics and the tremendously difficult graphics programming can take months, not to mention the required involvement with art department and graphics artists.

I'd rather have both. xbox360/PS3 graphics + improved gameplay. Wouldn't that be sweet?

I'm not talking about changing the whole graphics, honestly i havo no idea of programming etc.
But we can replace things, that look better. Like we can quickly get a good-looking court, but the PG domaniton, for example, last year, wasn't completely fixed until before some months (If any AIact did fix it).

gameplay..if you're unhappy with graphics, you can easily adjust...but when pg has 40 ppg average - you barely can adjust a thing...successfully...

wouldnt it be fun playing with better graphics and better gameplay? all the flashing dornas and active scoreboard screens makes the game the way its supposed to be. MVP baseball 2005 for ex. had the flashing dornas, even a replay screen that replayed a pitch or a hit even if the GAME didnt automatically replay it. thats what i mean by both. the crowd can always see a replay of a dunk or shot even if we dont.
What's REALLY GOING ON?????
