The Music Recommendation Thread

As an update to earlier. Coheed and Cambria's one is disappointing. I do not think I will recommend it.

I don't like Coheed other then the song Welcome Home, and one other that I can't remember the name of. But Welcome Home is an unbelievable song.

I love this album.

I own all 2pac albums and i reccommend them to anyone into Hip Hop they are must buys. All this new Hip Hop I'm not really a fan of, they got nothing on 2pac in my opinion or anything from that era.

Good 2pac Albums for Reccomendation:

Those 5 albums got me hooked on 2pac and are my favourite. My favourite 2pac song of all time is "Keep Ya Head Up". Another song i dont think is on those albums is "Pain" by 2pac also a pretty good beat from the movie Above the Rim.

Albert Hammond Jnr - Yours To Keep


Best album I have bought in a while. I mentioned it earlier, bought it about a week ago. Loved it to start with, but has grown on me even further. Sheer brilliance!

The Who - Live in Leeds 1970


Wicked live Who concert that has all their classics (to that stage) as well as a live rendition of Tommy. The bass parts are amazing, Keith Moon is insane on the drums, and the guitar work by Townsend is revolutionary for its time. This album reminded me how good The Who were, and how influential their music is.

Just when Dwyane was very very slowly gradually improving in his posting, he posted that piece of shite song.

Saves The Day - Under The Boards

Though without the sneer and cynicism of Sound The Alarm for most of the album (comes back in the second half), part two of the trilogy is delicious. Glassjaw imports continue to reshape the sound of the band for the better. "Getaway" is clutch.

Thank Madden, every year they're definitely going to get me hooked on some good artists. I started listening to Avenged Sevenfold after playing Madden 04 when it featured A7x - Chapter Four. Then I started listening to Bullet For My Valentine after they featured "4 Words to Choke Upon". Now I'm listening to Ozzy Osbourne's "Black Rain" after hearing "I Don't Wanna Stop" on Madden 08.

That song is just catchy as hell. If Ozzy fans don't think highly of this recommendation, excuse me, since this is my first foray into Ozzy stuff. (Barring "Crazy Train"... and that was a Bullet For My Valentine cover too )

1. All Eyez on Me and Greatest Hits should not be considered 2pac albums. No greatest hits should be considered an album. It is a compilation and usually isnt created with the structure and art that an album is. I also have All Eyez on Me: its a remix album...which i also dont consider its own album.
2. Having those 3 in your favorite songs just made you lose alot of credibility. Not that i dont like those songs: but those are EVERYBODY's fave 2pac songs...

QuickSilver Meat Dream - I Mother Earth


I'm not sure if a lot of people have heard of this band, especially if you're not from Canada. I recently found out that I have one of their albums from a while ago and started listening to them. They were pretty popular in Canada during the 90s (with a different lead singer) and were pretty much labelled as "the next big thing" but disappeared after making this album in the early 2000s if I can recall correctly.

Anyway, if I could describe the album, I would definitely compare it to a slightly upbeat sounding Tool. Crunchy guitar effects, thumping bass and I heard that their guitarist's main inspiration stems from Santana, so if you like his guitar-work you might also enjoy this although personally I have not listened to much of Santana's work.

Ty, great suggestion with AH Jr! I remembered reading his name somewhere, but i couldnt remember where, so i got the album, then put it on and i thought it sounded alot like the Strokes.. I love it, ive been listening to it non stop, its kind of like a chillout version of the Strokes.. Its top quality.. Great call

Anyone into swing music? If you are, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin' Daddies are the only bands I know, but they are fucking amazing. If you've seen Swingers (the movie) Voodoo Daddy are the band playing live towards the end.

Lately I've been really getting into rockabilly and psychobilly, stuff like Stray Cats, Mad Sin, Necromantix, and last night I went to see an Australian band, Zombie Ghost Train.
This music is sort of like punk, but with a double-bass instead of a regular bass guitar.
The different sound from the bass slapping is awesome...

The people who like Bad Religion, check out Bouncing Souls. Strung Out are playing with Bad Religion in Melbourne soon, but they don't sound the same...

Which brings me to Saosin... if you are into awesome drumming, check out this band. I dont know what genre to put it in, I guess emo/punk/rock/scremo (without the screaming...) but its really awesome music.

Swing music is like more upbeat jazz, its good fun.

I wouldn't say jazz is normally slow - swing is defined by "swung" eighth notes felt like the first and third notes of an eighth-note triplet and I guess it would be accurate to call it upbeat.

However, the bands you mention really bear little resemblance to traditional swing music - while I don't like to pigeonhole everything I'm tempted to just lump them in a "neo-swing" category.

If you like this stuff, by all means go back and see where it all came from - Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young are a good place to start.

I am really not cultured in swing music at all, or jazz... all I know about it, is when I listen to it I like it. I really have no clue about its roots or traditionalism.

The way music has been evolving the last few years, it's pretty legitimate to confuse all these genres unfortunately...How many fucking clones of Saosin exist out there? Almost scary...

I've been listening to Gym Class Heroes alot lately, kid nothing vs. the echo factor is a great song for those who havent heard it.

Are their old cds any good, if they even have them?
