Need some help with Chinese Basketball research

Postby BZ on Mon Oct 15, 2007 8:10 am

So the students in our Asian studies tutorial has been assigned to do a presentation on any specific aspect of contemporary Asia, and I've decided to choose Basketball in China. Aside from Wikipedia, I can't find any english sites that would give me a good wealth of information regarding the National Team or the leagues in China as well as popularity and participation. Any one know any other sites? Google is more of an enemy than a friend about this topic for me...

And since this is a basketball site, any one know any decent sites? Thanks in advance.

Anything about chinese basketball would most probably be chronicled in Chinese on chinese sites... take also into account that basketball wasn't really big until 90s in China I believe. Not that it wasn't big but there's nothing worthwhile to take note of for people in the West. If you get what I mean.

Perhaps choose a different topic? Good luck though

Yeah, I asked my tutorial leader today, didn't allow me to switch topics. I've found a couple of sites that has enough info for me to BS for 15 minutes about. I'm at a point where I don't really care about the marks anymore, just want to get this presentation done with. Thanks for the help though. (y)

^ contribute and help bitch.

BZ, what were you smoking when you chose as a topic a sport that has less significance in its country, and to make it worse you chose a communist country that keeps itself mildy enclosed from the globalized world.

I know that you know that you know a lot more about Chinese basketball than me. So spill the beans. I already contributed, sort of.

BZ's logic escapes me. The benefits of choosing your own topic is that you know something about it or the resources on where to get it from.

A cigarette  But in all seriousness, it had to be something within Pacific Asia, and I thought since there was creative freedom in terms of available topics, I decided to basketball in China. I didn't know it was this difficult to gather articles and stuff for information about Chinese basketball that chronicles all the way till now. The course is about contemporary asia after all :P

I still have a few weeks before my presentation date, so the more help the better. So far, I only have Wikipedia, and these sites:

http://www.china.org.cn/english/features/2004-2005cba/118962.htm
http://www.china.org.cn/english/features/2004-2005cba/116973.htm

Still trying to dig up some articles about basketball, any aspect of it. Business, populartiy, or the sport itself.

Not sure what to give you off the top of my head, so I'll just refer you to some sites I suppose.

Like asia-basket.com/chn/chn.asp is a superb site. Another forum is Yaomingmania.com/forum. Several members are members of the press and live in China and literally live and breathe Chinese basketball.

Much appreciated Jing. (Y) Granted it's not much, but I'm going to squeeze every last bit of workable info from these sites to piece together a 15 minute presentation
