Van Exel was aweosme back in the day :D What are you guys on about? (Just to make myself clear, like everyone else, Gordon isn't worth 70 mil)

Anyway a lil off topic, I'm waiting to see when Gordon decides he wants to commit to Great Britain bball like Deng has.

Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon denied a New York Daily News report that claimed he was in the market for a five-year, $70 million contract extension.

He is eligible to become a restricted free agent after the season. Asked whether $55 million is closer to the truth, Gordon said, "No comment."

55$ for 5 years is reasonable..

Gordon is smart but he is asking way too much. He should be fine with 20 - 40 mil.

$20m!? If it's a 5 year deal then that's what - $4m a year. That's half of what Kurt Thomas get's. Your really underestimating his worth, I think he is close to Ray Allen's level and will reach that level in a couple years.

Gordon - 33.0 MPG | 21.4 PPG | 3.1 RPG | 3.6 APG | 45% FG | 41% 3PT | 86% FT

Allen - 40.3 MPG | 26.4 PPG | 4.5 RPG | 4.1 APG | 44% FG | 37% 3PT | 90% FT

And just for reference, Ray's season at the same age:

Allen - 34.4 MPG | 17.1 PPG | 4.2 RPG | 3.6 APG | 45% FG | 36% 3PT | 90% FT

I think he's heavily underestimated here. A rich man's Nick Van Exel?

I am not underestimating Gordon but I am really sorry for putting his value too low.

Shannon, please reconsider this post. Okay, I think you are right, 20 million is a bit too low, but still 70 million is too much still so i think 50 - 60 million will be fine for him now giving him 10-12 million a year in a 5 year contract. You're also right that he is on the same level of Allen (when Allen was on his age).

Haha. You just said Will Perdue is better then Ben Wallace. The funniest part of this statement is that both Longley and Wennington are MILES better then Will Perdue.

I think he's better at the same age, so I see no reason to think he won't continue to improve up to and maybe past Allen's level. I think if you were to give Ben 40 minutes a game and put him in Seattle in Ray's position, he would have a similar impact.

Benji, I mean in comparison to Ray's years as a Sonic, not as a Celtic.

I know what you meant, I was focused on the wording and phrasing of it. Maybe I should have included -> ;)

hey guys! I found this!

Did you find it on this very page?

I'd be very surprised if the Bulls were even negotiating with Ben before Deng, given that all indications are that Deng is the top extension priority.

Gordon's probably hired Yi's people trying to force the Bulls' hand.

But the 55 mil is reasonable. And completely worth it.

That's assuming he even asked for $70 million in the first place. I suppose one can't help but be skeptical and somewhat cynical whenever there's a denial but it's not as though the initial report was backed up by much evidence either: two lines amongst other league notes that offered no quotes or further information such as when and where he reportedly made those demands or commented that he felt he was worth $70 million.

It's not unlike all the tabloids and gelebrity gossip websites/magazines that attribute information to "a source" or "a pal". You can't believe everything you read, particularly when there's very little to back it up. Perhaps I am wrong, though I'm inclined to believe that the $70 million report is exaggerated, misquoted or just plain made up. I'm certainly hoping that is the case. As far as Gordon offering no comment on a figure of $55 million, that could simply be a case of a player not wishing to discuss the situation or negotiate through the media.
