Picking the USA isn't as sure a bet as it once was but assuming they'll have their A squad in Beijing I think it could be the year they get back on top.

USA will win....I haven't predicted the States winning since 2000, but their time to win gold is at Beijing....

USA will win but it will be in close fought triple over time victory over the Tall Blacks :D

No but seriously, as Andrew and Andrew said Bejing will be USA's time to win gold again, its looking like they are finally getting back on track.

I get a feeling we will see Argentina and possibly Brazil in the top 6 too. I also feel that Russia's form in the Euro basket won't carry though to Bejing, these are all just inklings I have though, no specific reasons.

They are not in the Olympics.
btw They took the last place in their group, so I wouldn't call that "they did good".

If it's USA v Argentina, I think it will be close. Well, I'm hoping it is.

We shall see because USA played teams from the Americas and the talent between teams from there and Europe is what I would call big. Only Americas teams I would say could compete with Euro teams would be USA, Brazil, Argentina.

The European teams will give USA a run for their money. Spain, Greece, Lithuania will all be tough to beat IMO. Provided that Team USA has learnt to stay focused for the whole tourney and learnt to guard against the pick and roll and how not to rely only on their athleticism... they are my tip to win.

I think that, as Andrew/X have said, it is time they won. They have the talent and now they have the right midnset/organisational framework (hence they are going in the right direction)... it should be hard not to go with Team USA. As Mark said though, it won't be easy.

I am picking USA vs Argentina in the final, not sure who will win. An some team from Europe will get 3rd. Maybe USA will bomb in the pool play again and play (and knock out) and undefeated Spain in the quarterfinals, was pretty funny the year they did that before :-).

Chinese terminators kill everyone.

But seriously anyone but USA is fine. Also hopefully the CNT improves on their seeding and actually get into single digit final standings... they are in a rough pool

I know that picking European or any other teams aside from the USA will make you sound wiser but I think this time, it is safe to say that the Americans will win the gold.

The way I see it, there's no way for the final game not to be between the US and Argentina.

Not saying the Europeans have bad teams, just that they're not effective against fast, explosive teams such the US and Argentina.

He's most likely from Lithuania so it's a biased opinion.

Sport critics here in Italy actually think our national team "will go far in the competition", that doesn't mean it's true.

I'm from Argentina but I didn't think our team was going to beat USA in the final game of the pre-olympic championship.

I really think USA will reclaim the gold they have really prepared and are motivated to win it all.. It is a much different team than 2004 especially with Kobe and J-Kidd leading them.

Pretty good lineup....5 strong teams in Group A (Iran is piss weak) & 4 strong teams in Group B....I can see Group A having Lithuania & Argentina advancing definitely & the other 3 fighting for the other 2 spots....

Damn. If Germany doesn't beat both China and Angola, it's gonna get pretty tough for us. But I'm optimistic. :D
