Picked it up for PS3.
Played a bit of it and all I gotta say is .. it's
GREAT !
Despite having slight improvement on the graphics, I still say it's great.
Rather have gameplay than graphics, I'm I right ?
The player collision in this game is

and makes it even more realistic.
Crowd is crazy because it's an "interactive" crowd. Hard to explain but the crowd is good. Aha
Also 2K8 possesses what Live 08 has such as the Rookie Challenge, Slam Dunk Contest, etc.
Final say is that ...
If you want a game with good game play, go for
NBA 2K8.
If you want a game with good presentation and graphics, go for
Live 08.

I just got the game and played one game, cavs vs bucks. But during the 2nd half of the game my team would have messed up matchups like Redd guarding the PG, Mo guarding Gooden, Simmons guarding Big Z. It was just all messed up. Then i paused it and changed the matchups to what they should be, and couple minutes later they revert back to the silly matchups. Anyone else have this problem?

Either it's set on Auto Subs and it's switching their positions around itself, or the AI is using player matchups, like the ones we would normally use to have your good defender on their best player...

What is the defensive scheme for the Bucks? I'm just thinking it may be set to the zone they played often last year. Where it starts as a zone and when the shot clock goes to below 10 they man the nearest opponent. Possibly?
Otherwise, I'm hoping it is something that can be adjusted in the settings somewhere, cause it could be real painful otherwise.
Still can't wait to get my hands on this game. Damn PAL conversion!

I don't know how the control works since I was a NBA Live fan until LIVE 07. It's like, whenever I started to initiate a post move, I don't know how to get around the defender (i.e. spin).
Can someone please give me a hand? Or are there any sites that post the controls for 2K8 or any 2K series?
Thanks,
Tate
To Post up, Push Left trigger (Xbox 360 on PS3 im sure it's one of the top left triggers too) You hold it and they start posting up, to initiate a Shot, flick the shot stick (the right stick) in any direction, for example if you flick it away from your defender it could be a fade away... To Spin around him, lean into him, so your holding left trigger and face the left stick (the one you use to move) into him, then, just flick the left stick around in the direction you want to spin, if you did it right he'll fall forward and you'll spin right by him...

Hmm it could be that i sub some and then the cpu auto subs at the same time. Because i played another game and i subbed a couple players in and instead of just swaping them, they left the players i wanted out, in. I dunno, im still new to the series since i always bought live, so im getting used to the controls and stuff. One thing i find annoying is that on fast breaks sometimes my guys stop and shoot a jumper instead of flying in for a layup. Also they like to miss alot of easy 3 footers. And no fouls hardly get called when i do attempt a 3 foot layup.

Maybe switch on manual subs. Keep an eye on fatigue and just do the rotations yourself. Works a lot better in 2k7, expect the same for this years version. With the stopping to shoot, make sure you have the left stick going towards the goal so they continue to have momentum. Might help you get more lay-ups. Maybe look around for some sliders as well, could help with fouls etc.

The dude working at IGN should have his penis burn in front of him before getting shot in the head. He is a complete moron.
7.9?
This game is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Wed Oct 03, 2007 2:22 pm
How would i use these? I thought downloading the roster was off xbox live through the game.

Stickied this, unstickied the other.

IGN Doesnt do this game justice, if you want a real review read it on Gamespot. Those issues spoke about in the IGN review are pretty much phantom, looking forward to purchasing this game but damn PAL means have to wait to end of the month while everyone else enjoys argh! The Animations look sweet as this year, especially the dunks and off the ball activity.
Wed Oct 03, 2007 8:44 pm
the new layup, shooting and passing animations are absolutely unreal; best i've seen in a basketball game by far .. but then again the only basis for comparison is live.
still working on my defense, i keep getting rocked on pick and rolls. leave a man open and you're absolutely fucked. can anyone school me on how the new left-trigger works? i seem to be running around in circles.

IGN must have been paid by EA to give 2k a 7.9 or IGN is very biased against 2k8.
Hilary Goldstein Reviewed 2k8 at IGN (what guy would have a name "HILARY"?
He said that "2k8 is inferior to 2k7", WOW JUST WOW
His complaints were:
Lock-On D was too effective, that putting Shaq on Lebron (Shaq was locking down Lebron as if he was the best defensive guard in the League)
Shaq was draining 3's effectively
Jason Williams was the MVP
WOW is this guy smoking something (probably a pay-check from some competitor of 2k's)
First of all, it is difficult to stay with a guard by locking on if you are using a center. Secondly, why the hell are you shooting 3's with Shaq, and I really don't think people can make 3's effectively with Shaq even if they have good timing. And thirdly, someone simmed 4 season of 2k8 at OS and not once did Jason Williams or any unheard type was MVP, it was mainly Lebron James.
The IGN review is completely Flawed, when you hear someone say that the product 2k8 is inferior to 2k7 and that Shaq was draining 3's effectively, you know something is wrong with the review.

Yea that IGN review wasn't their best. But I don't think it was that far off. TBH the leap from 2k6-2k7 was bigger than 2k7-2k8, and while I don't think its even possible for 2k7>2k8, I just don't think 2k8 is that drastic of an improvement. They added better footplanting, more realistic weight and momentum, new animations, player personalities, the Blacktop mode (which in my opinion is completely worthless), lock on D (which isn't as bad as the IGN review said, but still isn't good), and improved the offensive AI. All that said ill still be getting the game sometime this week.
Speaking of AI is the defensive AI as bad as the reviewer says? From the demo I can definitely tell the offensive AI has improved but didn't think the D was too bad either?
