PES 2008: best PC sports game ever?

Postby BigKaboom2 on Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:02 am

Yes, it is confirmed.

Download Demo

Now stop complaining about "current gen" PC sports games and bask in the glory of PES.

UPDATE: Sweet goal with bad camera angle as it crashed before I could cap it again

Yeah, it won't let me play at 1280x1024, but it's so epic that I'll give it a break

Ahh, Pro Evolution Soccer :D If only the NBA Live series could work like these guys... although I'm not much of a big soccer fan (maybe if China's national team was actually good) I'm still hooked on playing Winning Eleven: ProEvolution Soccer 2007 on my PSP.

I hated Pro Evo 5 but all of the other ones have been amazing. The best actual sports game made IMO... aside from the Football Manager series, but that's different.

Apart from Evo 4 and 2, Konami's game has been pure awesomeness. I like FIFA but Pro Evolution has kicked butt every year since about 2001. Although 07 was getting closer to the standard set by Pro Evolution Soccer.

If I had a 360, I'd pick up this game in an instant once it gets released.

I just downloaded this game, and it looks amazing. The jersey textures and stuff, lighting, it all looks very next-gen. The controls feel a bit different too, as well as how the players interact and move about the pitch.

Its a big difference from PES6, though some of the sounds in the menu's get old fast.

Good one Jackal.

I've been playing this at 1024x768... and even at that it looks simply amazing. Players play much smarter and your cpu controlled teammates actually respond to everything you do, as well as the defenders. The players' eyes all follow the fall. I also love the players modeling the jerseys, and the design of the menu is a lot better as well. A huge improvement from PES6. Can't stop playing the demo.

It is indeed epic.

Best part is that Top Player is harder than last year IMO. For example, if you run down the sideline then do a quick 180 to create some space for a cross, there's a very good chance the defender will anticipate it and take the ball.

They're getting close to eliminating all potential cheese tactics.

They have to make something to Master League..FIFA has way better Manager-mode. But all in all PES is lot better in other way. Have to say that FIFA 08 is quite good but feels bit clumsy still.

FIFA's physics and feeling of ball control have never made any sense to me, but I really can't pinpoint exactly why. Something about it just looks bizarre.

I just spent a few days playing FIFA 07. Won a few games, but spent a lot of the time shouting at the TV screen as the CPU scores goals from 25-metre strikes, their only shots of the match.

I think I'm just going to stick with Pro Evo 6 until I get a next-gen console, though I still can't handle the damn pressure system (even after playing the game for years.)

This PES is probably the best sports videogame ever. :P
On PC, and X360 and Ps3 both. :)
Anyway, also FIFA 08 on Console is very good.

They've released a patch for the PS3 and Xbox360: http://www.winningelevenblog.com/forums/topic/178

Going by the comments, it doesn't do much but lower the resolution of textures though, which only helps the lagging a bit..

Sometime last week my computer just decided to refuse running PES2008, so I had to uninstall it. Was playing pretty good though, however there were many problems with it, the biggest for me was the grass.
