Standup Comedians

Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:02 pm

Alright, everyone list your 3 favorite standup comedians.

3.) Lewis Black- Sometimes he can get so angry he looks like his head might explode. Yelling, screaming, political comedy at its best.

2.) David Cross- My favorite David Cross joke- The worst thing/best thing about New York City is that every 10 minutes or so you are forced to make an impossibly difficult decision, whether to look at the most beautiful girl you've ever seen or the craziest person you've ever seen. "Oh my god look at her she's beautiful, look at those- Oh man look at him he's nuts! He's got on an orange jump suit and he's playing a casio!" Good stuff.

1.) Mitch Hedberg- What a great great comedian. Completely hilarious. The way he changes the pitch in his voice and says things just makes his jokes that much funnier. Shame he had to die speedballing.

Dat Phan- of Last Comic Standing fame. because he's asian so i get every joke he makes. "My mom would always make fun of my name... she'd say, 'hey son, can you go turn on dat fan over there?'"

Dave Chappelle- funny funny man. his humor is a lot like mine. that is, it can be insulting to people that don't get it or don't know me, but funny as hell because of the use of slurs/insults about race sarcastically.

can't tihnk of another one off the top of my head, but I'll say Dane Cook is not funny to me. He's waaay overrated.

compare that to your favorite Dane Cook clip and see the similarities.

Damnit, I was waiting untill someone mentioned Dane Cook so I could jump down their throat and then crawl out their stomache.

He is not funny.

Daniel Tosh.

Cannot think of others, currently.

3. Richard Pryor - the master.

2. Rodney Dangerfield - incredibly inappropriate but incredibly well done. Perfect delivery.

1. Mitch Hedberg - had pretty much my exact sense of humor, not that I would ever come up with any of his stuff but I found almost all of it hilarious.

I must mention Kevin James (of King of Queens) for his Sweat The Small Stuff set on Comedy Central which I bought on VHS because it was so excellent.

1- Ross Noble. Absolutely hilarious, alot of people can't understand what he's saying though because of his accent.

2- Simon Amstell... host of Nevermind The Buzzcocks, one of the funniest people I've seen. He once made Britney cry in an interview which has to count for something.

No others really. I don't "get" many American comedians, or at least the ones I would get I haven't seen perform.

Robin Williams stand up is awesome.

Chris rock is a favorite as well.

But, Eddie Izzard is definitely the best of them all.

The way I actually found out about Mitch was that I made two of his jokes without knowing who he was. Someone said it to me once, and I didn't think much of it, and then I heard it again. I watched some of his stuff and was hooked.

Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:05 pm

1. George Carlin-No not his newer stuff, he's just a whiny old man, but this guy said exactly how i think probably 30 years before i was born. Amazing, flat out.
2. Robin Williams-Ah so funny and so dirty, then he makes movies like RV and Flubber...Live on Broadway is so much gold i laugh hysterically each time i see it even though i've pretty much memorized it
3. The three spot changes alot for me...included: Mitch Hedberg, Josh Blue (last comic standing fame), Dennis Leary (yes i realize some of his material is stolen from Bill Hicks), Carlos Mencia (not his show, but his standup, he makes some good jokes) and yes even the dreaded Dane Cook...jump down my throat all you want about the overratedness of the last two but hey they make me laugh...Ron White, Chris Rock...Bill Maher...Paul Mooney...

Eddie Murphy. How the fuck did someone not mention him already?

Lewis Black is like my conscience. I was watching a small clip of his standup, and I swear the guy articulates the thoughts that are in my mind.

If you like Mitch Hedburg, you might like Demetri Martin.

Eddie Murphy's standup from the early eighties almost made me shit myself. He is fucking hilarious. It's a good thing I listened to his early standup stuff because you would never even know he's that funny from his newer movies (unless Norbit is funny, haven't seen it yet)

I have just recently (a year or so) found out about Bill Hicks and he is amazing. He is extremely smart and his material just makes me laugh constantly.

I don't really know who to put for the third one. I think Dane Cook is hilarious. I'm pretty annoyed by him as of late but there is no denying that he is funny. Mitch Hedburg is pretty strange but I cracked up a lot listening to his stuff. The guy Pdub just mentioned, Demetri Martin is pretty fucking funny. I saw his stand-up on Comedy Central and he had me laughing the entire time. He's really got the dorky kind of humor down.

Isn't Carlos Mencia the guy that stole a bunch of other comedian's jokes?

Sat Sep 15, 2007 1:43 pm

Yes

His shows sucks and I really don't like him.

Sat Sep 15, 2007 2:38 pm

Carlos Mencia caught red handed

Didn't really know where to put this, but...

Andy Milonakis, this guy is unfunny to the core, but did anyone know this lardass is 30+ years old?

Tue Sep 18, 2007 8:48 am

Yeah, that is pretty common knowledge over here in the states now. (I know you live in the past over there.) He's also not the Man Show boy.

The first season of his show usually has one good skit an episode though. I enjoyed his "grandmother" being a coupon, for example. Haven't it watched it since then however...

Tue Sep 18, 2007 8:54 am

I really didn't know that. I just thought he was this loud obnoxious teen like every other white American teen from the US. Where grillz rule all.

I'm still amazed a grown man can be such a nincompoop.

Tue Sep 18, 2007 9:15 am

I don't know many standup comedians, but Russell Peters cracked me up.

I reluctantly will say that I used to watch his show a bit and I thought it was mildly funny. It was a kind of "haha...this is fucking retarded". When I found out he was really in his 30s I got really wierded out when watching his show. It just gives off creepy vibes.

Anyone else like Larry the Cable Guy? I don't care if he's not as 'talented' as all these other guys, I just find his act funny as hell. He's the one guy on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour that keeps me laughing the entire time. His acting career is another thing. He should really stick to stand up.

I'm kind of a fan of Dane Cook's - he did a show on my campus 2 or 3 years ago and it was the first time I heard any of his stuff... so I found it completely hilarious. Now it seems like he has the same jokes over and over again, and his new stuff isn't that great. I was really disappointed with his Vicious Circle DVD. With that said, there are a couple of his jokes that I still repeat over and over again. He does have some good stuff.

I rather partial to Ron White myself. Actually, I'm partial to most of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Their humor speaks to me, seeing as how I'm sort of a redneck myself.

Yes, Russell Peters is very funny.

Other favourites of mine are Noel Fielding, Robin Williams, Seinfeld, Danny Bhoy, Dave Hughes and Dylan Moran.

Noel Fielding is my #1 at present. He's just crazy, goes off on tangents and doesn't even really tell jokes. Just weird and crazy stories. He doesn't do a heap of stand-up anymore, mostly working on his TV show 'The Mighty Boosh'. He also has the coolest fuckin hair in the world.

"Are you Ron...'Tater Salad' White?"

In no particular order...Drew Carey, Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Mike Harding, and Chris Rock are some of my favourites.

Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:57 pm

Russell Peters, the man is a riot.

Mon Nov 19, 2007 1:55 pm

Frank Caliendo...his new show comes out Nov. 20 in the States. He does spot-on impressions of Charles Barkley , Bill Walton , President Bush , and John Madden. Among one of the people he does a perfect impression of is Robin Williams , who I have always thought of as annoying and not funny at all. Apparently I'm not the only one , type in "Robin Williams not funny" in google and you'll get a lot of links. He just talks really fast about the most random stuff. This isn't funny. Funny is people telling jokes that make people laugh , not annoying "comics" talking really fast.
