Skate.

Skate. demo is out, and wow. I cant get enough of the demo. The moves, the camera angles, everything just looks like real skateboarding. I am a huge fan of tony hawk games, played every one since the first, but Skate. is going to revolutionize the skateboarding games for next gen the same way tony hawk 1 did for new wave skateboarding games. Tony Hawk is in for serious competition. I was a little worried at first since this game was made by EA, and we all know how much they can hype up a diamond studded piece of turd. But they really delivered in this game, at least in the demo. I cant wait to buy the game. I still like Tony Hawk games, but its gotten too arcade, and im sick of having to string together long ass combos that are unrealistic to get passed a goal. Even with Nail the trick, and the new "Nail the" modes, it wont compare to the controls of skate. Sorry Tony Hawk, i think the new kid in town is going to take this years comp.

I've been waiting for this game for a while now, and I can't wait to try out the demo. It's very frustrating that it's been finished for days now, but Sony doesn't put it up on the Playstation Store though.

-Young Buck-: Can you go through the entire city during the 30 minutes, or is it limited to that one skate park?

Yeah its out on xbox live.

You are only allowed to skate in the skate park, but its still pretty big with lots of areas to do moves. Id say its 2 to 4 times the size of the park that was in the Tony Hawk P8 demo.

I'm loving this demo - especially the grinds. You have so much control over them and it basically has the same feel as skating along normally rather than awkwardly transitioning into a difficult grind animation like THPS.

I'm having a bit of trouble with half-pipe skating though. It seems like I run out of speed no matter what and sometimes my ollies barely get any air if I let it go at the top of the pipe.

I saw a front flip in one of the Gametrailers videos off of a funbox - wish I knew how to do it.

Yeah halfpipe and the pool gives me trouble. I was able to pull off a Christ Air though (RT+B). But it drives me nuts how i go up a halfpipe and then come down even slower then before. You have to pump, to get going faster. Which is hold the LT or RT, or push up on the left analog as you go up the halfpipe and when you are almost to the top let go. Its still hard.

Forward flip is LT+left analog Up i believe.

Just remember the Left analog controls your body and right analog controls your feet. So if you experiment with that, maybe you can come up with something.

You can also hold LT+RT+B for the coffin move.

sounds good....if it reviews well for PS3, I'll pick it up....I was a huge fan of THPS2, which was easily the best of the series, but ever since then, to me it's been all downhill & boring....maybe closer back to realism will help (Y)

I've been a die hard THPS fan since the first, but the last 3 games have sucked. The demo really impressed me. The graphics, camera and controls were spot-on. I loved how satisfying it felt to finish a trick.

With THPG looking exactly like all the other games, I may just defect to skate.

So the THPG demo is atrocious; your skater doesn't even duck while you're holding down the ollie button, and it just looks silly to me. I must be spoiled by Skate.

Got it preordered and I'll grab it at Gamestop tomorrow. If anyone else gets it I'll be up for some free skate.

Ok, so nobody was looking forward to this as much as me...

It's fantastic though. Too bad EA's servers are dying - can't play online right now.

oh ok, Steve Kerr.

The hype(?) behind this game is ridiculous. I still have people calling in my work asking if it's been shipped yet. I heard it's better than TOny Hawk's new offering though, not much else.

ive heard people that went to the store and it was SOLD OUT! I called my local gamestop and he asked if i reserved it, and i said no, he said, SOLD OUT! I was like damn. I didnt expect this game to be sold out anywhere. I was able to get it at best buy though, they had a few left, as well as target. But still, didnt really think i would have had to reserve the game to get it at gamestop. So far its a cool game, and its a million times better then tony hawk PG.

I played Tony Hawks Proving Ground last night and was very disappointed. It might be because I haven't played the series since TH3, but I just didn't find it enjoyable at all.

It'll be interesting to try out Skate though. I wish Sony would release the demo already..

Tony Hawk has been struggling to innovate since T.H.U.G. 1, its about time somebody came along to offer some real change. Competition is the only way we get better.

Step your game up, Neversoft. lol

Yeah, it's EA who's "reinventing" the game against Activision. Rock Band, skate.

Nail the Trick = Sixaxis
Flick it controls = Wiimote

Thats basically what it is. But its not just that. Skate. looks like a city, tony hawk games have ramps and halfpipes in front of houses and crap that dont look like what you would see in real life. TH level design team really havent been doing that great as of late. I hated most of the levels in P8, only liked the skate park, school, and the fun park was okay.

I haven't played a skate board game since tony hawk underground 1 on ps2, I got THPG demo on the ps3 and I can't stand it (i haven't played skate yet, because there is no demo on ps3 yet), The city is just so unrealstic, Young buck whom I quoted below hit the nail on the head.

I imagine ps3 will have a skate demo this thursday, and the game for ps3 comes out on the 24th, I can't wait to play it though. THPG is incredibly unrealistc from what the demo shows, First of all the kick you learn from hardcore makes you go like 60 mph (literally, I'm going 10x the speed of the cars), second of all, I had to "nail the grab" 10 times in like 40 seconds , using my thunder kick I got up like 600 ft in the air and I did 5/10 in one try.

I'm not a skater at all, I'm probably the exact opposite, but I used to play tony hawk 1 on the PS, and i had fun playing it in the realistic environments. Then under ground came out and I got that one thinking it would be fun, it was very short of a game and it was incredibly unrealistic, I grinded over a huge bridge, and that would never be possible in real life.

That's a good point, every building has a half pipe attached to it, some cars even have half pipes in front of them.

For anyone who owns skate, I have a general question. What's the story of skate? Tony Hawk has all these fancy stories, I just want to know what skate has.

Skate is largely the same - you start off sort of unknown after a trip to the hospital following a you-bus collision and just go around the city doing challenges until you get enough of a reputation to be featured in The Skateboard Mag and Thrasher.

After every few challenges, the magazine photographers tell you to go somewhere for a photo shoot, then you pick which photo you want to be in the magazine out of 8 or so taken during your trick. Eventually you get to the X-Games once you're on the cover of one of them, I believe, but I haven't gotten there yet.

Did anyone play Thrasher: Skate and Destroy for the PS1? This game reminds me of that classic game.

You won't be disappointed.

...until you get to these games of S.K.A.T.E. (like H.O.R.S.E. but with flip tricks) and the computer skater matches you EVERY SINGLE TIME NO MATTER HOW IMPOSSIBLE YOUR TRICK IS.

Are you serious? Ive only done like 3 or 4 matches. But they all were pretty easy. Most of the time the PC bails.

Well after having my sleep of reason last night, I am going to finish that Street 07 "Legends" mod that no one is going to download and use skate as a reward for finishing it.

I forget, is the whole city open from the start? or is it just special areas.
