(sigh) OK, i'll bite.

The Spurs have dealt Jackie Butler to the Rockets for Vassilis Spanoulis. Spanoulis is probably going back to Europe, so this is really probably going to be something for nothing.

Butler showed a bit during his brief time in New York, but Pop seems pretty settled with Timmy D, Elson, Oberto and Big Shot Bob, and Butler was unlikely to see any time in the next couple of years.

Jacque Vaughn and Matt Bonner each signed multi-year deals Thursday with the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs. Terms weren't released.

As long as RC Buford and Tim Duncan are on the team, they can make one lousy move an offseason (they always do!) and still be the greatest franchise since the 90's Bulls.

Spurs signs Ime Udoka. He played for Portland last year before going to the Spurs. He ranked 19th in the NBA in 3-point shooting, making 89 of 219 attempts

Wow, the poll is sure going well. That's like asking: Is converse a good poster? When there aren't many (if any) die-hard SA fans here in this forum.

I just read this on ESPN.com

Timberwolves: Acquired guard Beno Udrih from the San Antonio Spurs for a 2008 second-round pick; waived Udrih and forward Juwan Howard; released forward Wayne Simien.

The timberwolves traded a 2nd round pick to san antonio for Udrih, just to cut him? And since when did Twolves have Simien, i thought he was on the heat.

Wolves got Simien in the Walker-Davis/Blount trade.

Regaring Udrih, did they really cut him. I haven't seen that yet. I thought he would be a nice signing. Wished the Bucks traded a 2nd for him. Would be a good back-up off the bench IMO.

yeah he's a really decent player. the youth must've clashed with the old school in Popovich.

Pop hasn't seem to have much trust in Udrih for some time. I'm sure there is a few teams that could use him on the cheap (if in fact he has been waived). For a decent back-up point, I'm sure Miami, Cleveland, Boston, Bobcats, 76ers and so on could see him as an option on the cheap.

What the hell...? Minnesota gives up a second round pick to pay for the contract of the waived Beno Udrih? That doesn't make any sense... That makes 4 (!) offseason trades for the T-Wolves.

Still haven't found any confirmation that he has been waived. Anybody got a link?

I wouldn't count on that. Pop trusted the guy long enough. Don't get me wrong, the kid has talent, but unfortunately that can only be seen on paper. He has absolutely no work ethic as he worried more about partying, blogging and bashing the team for his minor role. He's an absolute cancer for chemistry and furthermore injury prone (gets hurt every off-season). Instead of trying hard to lift his game to another level he always complained. Now that the Spurs waived Marcus Williams they have room to sign Darius Washington who proved to be a more mature player than Beno ever was (even earned praise from Baron Davis for his performance against the Warriors). And with Vaughn being singed to a two year contract there was no need to keep Beno.

Regarding the trade it is rumored that the pick is so well protected that the Spurs will never receive it. Along with the cash considerations send to the Wolves there is an advantage for both sides (avoiding the luxury tax and getting some money to buy out Juwan Howard) The Spurs will either bring back Marcus Williams or start the season with one player less than the maximum. Beno being immediately waived by the Wolves is indeed a bit surprising, but I wouldn't count on him being picked up by any other team (except maybe Cleveland who showed some interest in him).

Fact is that the majority of Spurs fans is glad that he is finally gone.

The Timberwolves sent a protected 2008 second-round pick to the Spurs for cash considerations and guard Beno Udrih, whom the Wolves immediately waived.

The deal helped both teams.

Ahhh ok, now it makes more sense. But still i thought beno was a good prospect.

Spurs got their rings and beat Portland tonight. I suppose they didn't want the champs to get blown out by 40 again, so they had the Spurs face one of the worst teams in the league.

I still think they should have branded an asterisk on the title ring. Of course I felt that way about Miami's rings also.

2004 NBA champs Detroit Pistons *
* Karl Malone was injured

1996 NBA champs Chicago Bulls *
* Nate McMillan was injured so Gary Payton had no backup at PG

We should look for 'asteriskables' in every championship won.
