Damn, sounds pretty damn exciting. I just borrowed the Half-Blooded Prince from a friend. Hopefully I can find time to get started on that so I can read this new one.

I agree with you Jackal. The 7th book was amazing.

The plot turns and twists were incessant. By the end of the book, everything you had previously thought was changed. Snape turns out to be a hero, Dumbledore no longer looks naive (for trusting Snape), Mrs Weasley comes up with the best line of the book, and people die left and right.

I could have done without the epilogue, especially with it being so dry. I would have rather heared what happened to Prof. McGonagall - did she become headmistress? She came up big at the end of the book.

Overall a great book, and an even better series. I think the 5th book might still be my favorite, but the last 3 books in themselves were simply amazing. Harry Potter is far better than LOTR imo.

Hey, its Harry Potter. You can be excused for shrieks of glee while reading, its just that good.

My only disappointment towards the 7th book, is that Harry had to be such a nancy for the first few chapters. The main point im trying to make here, is dude, its all go with Ginny, why the fuck would her mum being there prevent you from hugging her, or "bumping elbows" with her. Man up Potter!

Other than that, great, great book, and like you Jackal, i think you gotta love Snape after this one.

What? Black people will never get anything? Are you on crack? Do you even know who Condoleeza Rice is?!

Wait, is that Michael Jackson before he became a white woman?

SPOILERS DO NOT READ FURTHER (just in case, you were curious enough to read a thread that already said 'spoilers' thinking it was a joke).

i enjoyed the book a lot. BUT it did feel rather anticlimactic, eh? "oh a MAJOR character's gonna die!" and then they kill off frickin dobby? I mean, by that time in the book I had forgotten about dobby, and i was like, huh, who? what? kreacher? dobby? oh yeah! DOBBY. ah well. And then they kill off one of either fred or george? i mean, i cared, but not really, shoot me for saying it, but at least theres a spare.

i thought by MAIN characters they meant one of the ACTUAL main characters (ron, hermoine, harry) at LEAST. christ.

anyway, i did like the book a lot, enough to make me want to start rereading the first, and what I noticed is that jk rowling seems to be overwriting/trying to hard in the 7th from a literary pov. and sometimes it feels forced or contrived (especially in the start), as if she were under pressure or trying to prove something. it wasn't a big deal later on, but i just bring it up because I find the simplicity of harry potter equates to a lot of the charm in it. I mean, jk rowling is not a great technical writer, but she has an incredible imagination... theres something really, i don't know, nice about that, unassuming.

lastly, I missed a lot of the 'doing nothing' parts. thats what i really loved about the prior books, when they were doing nothing, those moments between moments. here it seems like such a frantic pace, and though I do understand the need for it, i miss the innocence which feels secondary rather than equal in the forefront.

also ginny feels so one dimensional, oh well. still don't like snape either, add extreme stalker creep to the credentials, though of course i don't hate him as much as i did, and its a good rounding out of character. and what the hell happennd to dumbledore? the turnaround to insecure chicken shit was a little too abrupt for me. the ending, all in all, felt a tad rushed.

oh well, that said, i still liked the book, and it was a decent end.

I think the book was awesome, but I have to agree with pretty much everything Maguis said. I really missed the "doing nothing parts" as well, I personally think she could have set it up to make the last book a bit longer so as to incorporate a bit more down time.

Also gotta agree with Dean on how much of a pussy Harry was seeming to be with the whole Ginny relationship.

But in the end everything seems to be tied up really nicely and as previously mentioned in the thread its amazing to see how a lot of the little details in previous books come together and have a large amount of significance in this book.

I still thought it was great and im really stoked that the story has been concluded, but at the same time im really gutted its over. Lets hope she ends up writing that encyclopedia shes hinted at doing.

Anyone notice Aberforth in the Hog's Head in the OOTP movie? Shooing a goat out of the pub. I just re-watched it. Nice touch.

That was imo, the biggest problem for me when book 7 ended. It just ended so abruptly. I was expecting a gathering after the aftermath, everyone rejoicing etc. Would've been nice to see how everything played out after the "duel" and then flip the page for the epilogue 19 years later. Definitely would've been a nicer ending.

I felt the book was rushed a bit and I know there's a war going on, but there could still be more details in between the events.
I didn't care much about who died except Fred(dunno why). Loved the Battle of Hogwarts chapter and how Harry befriends Kreacher.
Overall, I still say it's a damn good book.
