Power surge... Help!

Postby maceo24 on Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:34 pm

There was a freak power spike in my area earlier this afternoon, and while my pc and audio equipment was protected, the living room TV and the wii attached to it were not. The TV turned out fine, but the wii is screwy, and Im not quite sure what to do about it.

It turns on, it recognizes the controller, and I hear audio once it gets into the wii's menu. However there is no video signal. Makes no sense at all, I feel the feedback on the controller when I move the remote around he screen, and I still hear everything. Do you (anyone with an opinion, join in please) think it could just be my A/V cables, or do you think it could be the Wii itself? And if it is the Wii itself, will nintendo fix my shit?

Check the A/V cables to see if their plugged in, maybe the video input fell out, or is loose.

I'm not sure at all. Just last week, a thunderstorm blew out a generator and our whole block was down. Everything was fine except for the TV. It just wouldn't turn back on :(

I've had to return my Wii twice (disk drive failed, then GPU overheated due to WiiConnect24) it's quite simple. I would suggest you could try some new cables...but don't know if that's the problem if you can hear the sound.

You just fill out the form. They send you a UPS label. You pack the Wii (that's all) in a box and send it. After a few weeks they send you another one. If you had VC games they transfer those. They don't transfer your saves or Mii's though. At least I don't think they do. Just copy them to a SD card and your Wii-mote.

You have a year warranty on the Wii I think. If you registered it on my.nintendo.com you would get a 90 day extension as well.

I'm assuming you are using RCA cables colored with yellow(video), white and red(audio)? Try hoooking the Wii up to something else that has the RCA inputs. If you don't have anything else, try a neighbor or a friend. If that doesn't work, try different cables, but I don't think a cable would fail due to a surge because the cable is just a medium of wire in between the two connections, but that's just a guess. If your Wii still works like you say, then it might just be the tv's input that is messed up, and not the Wii's output. Cross your fingers.

Yep, I'm usig RCA inputs. Absolutely positive everything is plugged in correctly, lol. I tried them in other inputs on my television, and through the inputs on the DVR as well, its the same thing anywhere i've tried it.

I'm super pissed, cause my girlfriend moved the surge protector to another room to plug in an extra fucking lamp so she could do her friends hair... But if i have to send it back, oh well.

edit - Forgot something. Does electrical malfunction fall under physical damage?
