Point Scoring System (a suggestion for NLSC)

Postby keem21 on Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:58 pm

guyz what if we put a system here that lets us give points to a member...
that way we can show others our appreciation for their hard work...
and lets have a requirement that lets only those with 100+ posts give points..

Could be a nice idea. I remember that there were a couple of suggestions for the karma system a while ago. But I still think that it's unnecessary, people know when they're appreciated and when they're not. If they don't realize that then they're probably too dumb to post anyway

EDIT: I just realized you joined on my 18th birthday. I'd give you a point for that

Nah don't like this idea. The Karma thing can turn ugly, like at dotorg. Plus as Drex noted, you shouldn't need some certain amount of points or whatnot to prove that you are appreciated. Its the things you do on the forums anyways.

Karma points is a good system in theory but sadly it doesn´t work in reality. It will only result in a crapload of meaningless posts by people trying to achieve said karma points. I mean people are already obsessing about how many posts you´ve got...

I think people who make a quality contribution are easily recognised without any kind of point/karma system. I'd rather the quality of people's posts and their attitude speak for themselves.

Karma can't be given and taken by just some person.
It can only be aligned by the cosmos.

Yeah, although it's a cool feature/idea. It's a dangerous one at the same time. Could decrease quality posts and increase the quanity.

There is another mod out there where members can "give thanks" to a topic or a post without posting. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the karma system, but with that, there is no negativity, unlike the karma system. It doesn't give a member points or anything, just a small space at the top of the thread with the members name and time they "thanked" it.

^ I prefer that over karma, which gives people incentive to make crappy posts like they do to pad their post count.

Ah they have that over at Sportsgamer. Its just a little line under that post that says Thanked By: Name.

It works a lot better than Karma.
