New Jersey Nets 07 ~ [14-3] Jefferson posts 32 in Charlotte

Postby pacers4eva on Sat Jul 28, 2007 4:30 am

Hey guys,
It seems I have been hit by a string of bad luck recently, my New Orleans Hornets Dynasty save I unconciously deleted and 3 weeks ago my copy of NBA Live 07 broke, therefore ending my Chicago Bulls Dynasty. Well, I have decided to start again with the New Jersey Nets!

1. How will the rookies do in their first taste of the NBA?
2. Has the Jason Kidd, Vince Carter magic lost its effectiveness?
3. Can New Jersey make the 2007/08 playoffs?
4. How will Jamaal Magloire fare in his first year as a Net?

Carter Drops 52 On Opening Night In Comfortable Win

Image

Image Nets 94-78 Bucks Image

The Continental Airlines Arena was buzzing, the New Jersey Nets raced out of the tunnel and onto the court. The lights flickered. The music boomed. It was clear that a new NBA season was starting in New Jersey.
But I don't think even the home fans could have predicted what they would see. Vince Carter put on a clinic on how to rip a defence apart. The perennial all-star's athleticism simply outclassed the Milwaukee defence with a dazzling array of lay-ups dunks and even a thunderous putback, VC posted 52 points. And as for the Kidd-Carter electricity, that was good as new with an alley-oop that raised the roof. The Bucks seemed sort of stunned by how quickly the Nets were executing their offence and were sluggish at both ends, despite Michael Redd knocking down 15 foot jumpshots. Jamaal Magloire swatted away 5 shots and was switched on on the offensive boards.
Jason Kidd also showed encouraging signs with his usual great court awareness, Kidd dished out 8 assists and scored 26 points to help New Jersey on their way. Milwaukee's Earl Boykins was the visitor's high-point man with 24 points and 12 assists. For Milwaukee it was anything but a smooth display whilst New Jersey was an extremely well oiled machine. Vinsanity was well and truly unleashed...

Jason Kidd put on a good show for the win : Andrew Bogut was quite all night

I'm not at all a Nets fan, but I really like this. The presentation and the fact that it has 2007 rookies makes it interesting...

Question: what system is this on?

Kidd Steal And Layup Wins The Game At The Buzzer

Image

Image Raptors 85-86 Nets Image

On their second game in the NBA 2007/08 season, the New Jersey Nets captured a perfect start with last nights nail-biting victory over the Raptors in Toronto. After knocking down an open jumpshot, new signing Carlos Delfino was left hugging the ball while the final seconds ticked away. However when Carter and Jefferson surrounded him he had no option but to pass the ball to Point-Guard TJ Ford. But Jason Kidd's experience came through, no sooner had the ball been released, Kidd was on it and an outstretched hand knocked the ball down to the Raptors key, the veteran Guard raced onto the ball and surged for the layup as the buzzer rang. Kidd eventually finished up with 34 vital points and 3 assists. "I was just concentrating on getting the ball back." Said Kidd, "Vince and Rich did a great job at hustling for the ball and I was in the right place at the right time; it was a great feeling!"
Carlos Delfino, who signed from the Pistons in the offseason was the Raptors high point man with 28. The Nets did well to cut off Chris Bosh, minimalising his effectiveness. "We couldn't get anything going tonight." Bosh says, " In the end, New Jersey deserved it, and it just goes to show how the smallest things can win or loose the game for you."
Vince Carter, fresh off a 52 point display did well again with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists whilst Richard Jefferson hit two three pointers to help his team on their way to victory. New Jersey boarded for the flight home with a perfect 2-0 record. Next up : Chicago...

Kidd & Carter Combine For Convincing Victory Over Chi-Town

Image

Image Nets 84-68 Bulls Image

New Jersey returned home from Toronto to host the Chicago Bulls at their home - The Continental Airlines Arena. With Kidd, Carter and Jefferson playing well, the Nets were proving to be formidable opponents.
The Chicago Bulls soon found out how; Vince Carter and Jason Kidd got going early with 7 points each inside 5 minutes.Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich failed to attempt a shot in the whole first quarter as the Nets limited Chicago's offensive strategy. Ben Wallace did a good job on the glass, he finished up with 18 boards but the visitors couldn't convert them into points. The fans went crazy after seeing two Kidd, Carter alleyoops in a row and Scott Skiles' team were rattled. Jason Kidd finished up with 20 points whilst Carter scored 30. Jefferson shot 81% from the field with 20 points, and Kidd dished out 8 assists. "It was a near perfect performance tonight," Said Coah Lawrence, "Jay, Vince and Rich were very convincing and worked together brilliantly."
Tyrus Thomas eventually ended up as the Bulls highest scorer with 20 points and Ben Gordon led the assists column with 4. "It simply wasn't our night." Says Ben Wallace, "Not taking anything away from New Jersey, they deserved but we were nowhere near on top of our game here." The flight home couldn't come soon enough for the Bulls as they left New Jersey behind. Now with a 3-0 start, the season is looking very promising for the Nets and their fans...

Kidd's Last Second Three Pointer Forces OT, Shaq Tips In For The Win

Image

Image Heat 102-OT-101 Nets Image

A sure shot contender for game of the season, the New Jersey Nets travelled home after a heartbreaking last second defeat to 05/06 Champs the Miami Heat.
After Jason Kidd knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer, the Miami fans were unsure which way Over-Time would go. Luckily, Jason Williams came up strong for them, with 9 points in the extra period. Williams posted 48 points for the night. The Nets did a good job in shutting down Dwyane Wade, but like all good teams, there was a second man that could carry the burden, that man was Shaquille O'Neal. The Miami powerhouse simply charged his way through the Nets defence for a few thunderous jams and it was he who tipped in the game winning shot after a Udonis Haslem 15 foot jumper miss. The Heat fans went crazy whilst the Nets players were shocked.
Jason Kidd did remarkably well in steals and assists, he scored 38 points and had 8 assists for the night. "It was a great feeling hitting the three to send it to Overtime, and I imagine Shaq must have felt the same when he won the thing!" Says Kidd.
Vince Carter scored 24 points and Jefferson had 32, but it still wasn't enough to topple Miami and New Jersey suffered their first loss of the season...

Nets Catch Fire In Fourth Quarter To Bury Utah

Image

Image Nets 114-98 Jazz Image

With the scores tied going into the fourth and final quarter, the Utah Jazz and the New Jersey Nets knew that one of them was going to have to have one last final push. Jason Kidd started off well, grabbing two defensive rebounds and surging up the court for the basket. Deron Williams was excellent for the whole three quarters scoring 34 points, but failed to post a point when the Jazz needed him most. The Nets offense started to flow and Utah became mere spectators as Kidd, Jefferson and Carter went to work on the fastbreak. Jamaal Magloire did a good job guarding the paint and he finished up with 4 blocks for the night, Magloire also scored 12 points. Gordon Giricek gave his team some hope when he knocked down to consecutive three pointers but it wasn't enough as Kidd kept his nerve at the free throw line to seal the game. The New Jersey Point-Guard posted 32 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists for the night. Jefferson and Carter scored 62 points between them, with Carter being the Nets high point man with 42. Theo Ratliff also did well on defense for his travelling Jazz team, but they couldn't hold off the now 4-1 New Jesey in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Watch

Image Greg Oden - Portland Trailblazers
2007 #1 Draft Pick from Ohio State University, 7'0" Center Greg Oden has done very well in his first few games in the NBA. He has averaged 22.7 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 3.7 APG and 2.33 BPG. Oden leads the Trailblazers in points, rebounds and assists per game. He has been described as "the best young talent to ever come into the Trailblazers squad."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Image Kevin Durant - Seattle Supersonics
2007 #2 Draft Pick from Texas, 6'9" Forward Kevin Durant was tied with Oden as the best player to come into the NBA and some even thought that Portland would pick the Longhorn standout ahead of Oden. Durant has certainly lived up to the expectations by posting 20.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.0 APG & 1.33 BPG Durant leads the Supersonics in points, blocks and offensive rebounds.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Image Al Horford - Atlanta Hawks
Third pick Al Horford from Florida has been the second choice Power-Forward to Shelden Williams and therefore has averaged 1.0 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 0.5 APG & 0.25 BPG. The 6'10" Forward has played just 27 minutes out of a potential 240, yet he has come under critisicm from the media and has been reffered to as "very dissapointing."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Image Mike Conley Jr. - Memphis Grizzlies
Conley was considered an early pick in the 2007 NBA Draft being selected by the Grizzlies at #4. Team-mate of Greg Oden at Ohio State, Conley had been the second choice Point-Guard for Memphis and has averaged 5.8 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 5.2 APG & 1.20 SPG in 114 minutes on the court.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Image Yi Jianlian - Milwaukee Bucks
Chinese 7'0" Power-Forward Jianlian has been used as the third choice behind Bogut and Skinner and has played only 9 minutes in the NBA. Yi has posted 1.5 PPG, 0 RPG, 0 APG & 0.50 SPG. Jianlian has reportedly said to have "wanted out" with the Bucks roster and may be traded soon. Potential offers are expected from Houston, Detroit, Philadephia and New Jersey.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Image Corey Brewer - Minnesota Timberwolves
Brewer was selected 7th in the 2007 Draft and has done reasonably well for his new team with 11.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 3.2 APG & 1.25 BPG. Brewer has combined well with veteran Kevin Garnett and the hall-of-famer has said "he can become great in this league."
-------------------------------------------------------------
Image Joakim Noah - Chicago Bulls
Noah, from Florida, was selected 9th by the New York Knicks but was then sent to Chicago. Noah has been the second choice Power-Forward behind Tyrus Thomas but preffered to than PJ Brown. The 6'11" Forward has posted 4.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.3 APG & 1.33 BPG. Noah said "It has been the best few months of my life." and has "relished the chance to work with Ben Wallace."
-------------------------------------------------------------
Image Spencer Hawes - Sacramento Kings
The 7'0 Center from Washington was picked 10th by the Sacramento Kings and has been second choice behind Brad Miller. Hawes has averaged 1.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 1.8 APG & 0.50 BPG. Hawes has admitted he would like to have more game time but "joining the NBA was in my wildest dreams" and is "loving every second of it"

Kidd Leads New Jersey Into Overtime Again, Carter Comes Up Strong

Image

Image Pacers 104-OT-112 Nets Image

After a fourth quarter surge from the Indiana Pacers, New Jersey were again faced with an all or nothing final play. Kidd had to send Kareem Rush to the free throw line with the pressure on. Rush made one of two and Jason Collins grabbed the awkward rebound and immediately called a Timeout. The Nets huddled together with Lawrence Frank barking out instructions. Jefferson found Kidd on the inbounds pass and he raced through the lane for the layup. Jermaine O'Neal, who was dissapointing all night, came across for the block but the Kidd adjusted and hit the layup at the buzzer.
Vince Carter came through for the travelling Nets in Overtime, he shot 91%, hitting shot after shot and even dunking on Troy Murphy which set the New Jersey bench crazy. Vinsanity finished up with 42 points. Kareem Rush was the hight point man for Indiana with 34 baskets. Rush was 2/3 from the three point line and 69% from the field, unfortunately for him, he couldn't convert the last vital free throw. "The first time was great and it doesn't get any worse!" Says Kidd upon hitting the equalising basket. "Luckily Vince done good for us in the extra period and we'll move on from here." Kidd had 34 points and 3 rebounds. Bostjan Nachbar came off the bench to shoot a perfect 2/2 from beyond the arc. "The Conference Finals are our target this season," Says Coach Lawrence Frank, "Anything less than a 2cnd round knockout will be a dissapointment this year." New Jersey have players that believe in each other and a coach who believes in his team. Surely, that is a recipe for sucess...

"New Jersey are a 3-man team." - Mike D'antoni

Image In an unpresidented move, Phoenix Suns Head Coach Mike D'antoni has downgraded the New Jersey Nets as having "Only three players on the court." He stated in today's Press Conference in Arizona. "The Nets team is based around three players," Said D'antoni; "Kidd, Jefferson and Vince Carter. The rest are just there to meet the NBA requirements of roster size and players on the court." Reporters were taken aback by the 2004/5 Coach Of The Year's harsh statement and the media had a field day...
"I am 95% sure that by the end of the season, Magloire and Collins will be the two most uneffectve inside men in the whole of the NBA for this season; simply because of the fact that the talent that New Jersey have outside of the key is too demanding and intimidating. They are talented, by no means am I taking away what skills Kidd, Jefferson and Carter have, but they are a three man team. They know their talent is far more superior to that of Collins, Magloire, Krstic etc. and so they are carrying this franchise themselves."
A reporter for the SLAM Magazine then asked D'Antoni: "Do you not think that some other coaches and teams around the NBA will feel the same way about you're team?" To which D'Antoni replied: "Well I don't see how they can (laughs) look at our team. Basically every guy in the starting five is an All-Star, Amare, Shawn, Grant, Raja and Steve - the talent in Phoenix is spread around the whole court, nobody wants to be a standout, we work together and concentrate on winning games, and that is the sole reason that we re probably the best team in the NBA right now."
New Jersey Head Coach Lwarence Frank is due to give a Press Conference later on today. Has D'Antoni sparked a fiersome rivalry? Tune in later on to find out what Frank has to say...

"We Will Do Our Talking On The Court." - Lawrence Frank

Image In a Press Conference reply to Mike D'Antoni's comments about his team, Lawrence Frank said "We will do all our talking on the court."
Frank went onto say that "D'Antoni's comments haven't effected us in the slightest. In fact, they have even made us stronger. To be honest I don't know how he can say we are a three man team. Jason Kidd is one of the top assist men in NBA history and if we didn't want Jamaal Magloire with us then we wouldn't have signed him from the free agents pool and we wouldn't have bought Jason Collins through our system." Frank continued by saying, "We are going to make the playoffs this year and I think D'Antoni knows that aswell. The guys can't wait to travel to Phoenix now to play!"
"There is a basketball saying that goes: Talent wins followers, teams win championships. That is the motto we go by here. Sure, we have talent but we also have a great team mentality. That is why we are 5-1 and the only game we have lost was because of a split second t-in from one the greatest players to ever play the game."
The Nets manager seemed to have handled the situation very maturely, but I don't think there is any doubt that the Phoenix Suns vs. the New Jersey Nets will be a hell of a game, with more than a victory on the line...

Nets Fourth Quarter Surge Provides Unlikely Victory

Image

Image Nets 100-96 Rockets Image

It was looking doomed from the start for New Jersey and their fans, Yao Ming was pulling down every rebound and Tracy McGrady was making seemingly impossible shots. Until the fourth quarter, when Jason Kidd shot 4/4 from the three point line and Vince Carter held his nerve for the vital free throws.
Yao Ming was unstoppable on the glass. The 7'6" Chinese Center secured 18 rebounds for his team and even slammed home a ferocious putback. Magloire scored every second chance opportunity that came to him and Jason Collins ended the game with 5 assists. Jason Kidd was on fire from beyond the arc. He shot 4/4 in the fourth quarter to lead his team to victory. Kidd posted 34 points for the night and 4 assists. Vince Carter had 18 points whilst Jefferson posted 22. Tracy McGrady was relatively quite so only got 16 points. Houston's high point man was Steve Francis, who returned to the Rockets at the start of the season, scored 35 points, had 5 rebounds and 3 assists for the night. It was clear that Mike D'Antoni's comments about the "three-man" New Jersey team had not bothered neither distracted the Nets and they went on to get an unlikely, precious victory over one of the NBA's best teams...
