The Simpsons Movie

Postby Andrew on Thu Jul 26, 2007 11:18 pm

I'll be avoiding this thread until the weekend at the earliest since I won't be seeing it until then but I'll kick things off by saying that even though I have a few doubts given some of the recent episodes, I'm really looking forward to this one. There's a few movies that came out earlier this year that I didn't end up going to see for one reason or another that I'll be watching for the first time on DVD but this is one I definitely want to see at the cinema.

i will avoid it also, well up until friday at 10pm. funny part is i have to wait for the babysitter to get here and she wont be here til 9:15 so we would just barely get into the theater before the movie starts so what i did was convince my wife to leave here at 8 to make sure we got a good spot in line for it lol

I hate this place! No Simpsons movie until mid-September because they have to translate it! Are you kidding me?! I'm depressed. :(

Just watched it. The plot is alright, the jokes were nice as always. But you cant compare it with great episodes like "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson".

Joe, i thought it'd be released worldwide today :?

It is. With the exception of Italy, obviously. Because instead of starting the dubbing earlier, we decided to start it now that the movie is already available worldwide.

I don't even understand why it is necessary to dub a movie, just fucking sub it! But no, we have to dub it because otherwise people will think the Simpsons are actually American and speak English.

Jeez, this country makes me sick.

I´ll probably go see it. I have really low expectations though. The Simpsons has been more or less dead to me after season 9.

Great movie...I've been following Simpsons since the early days (the first couple of seasons weren't good , especially the animation. Anyone remember Early Homer?). I was confused about "President Schwarzenegger" (after all , the character was refered to as Rainier Wolfcastle in the series) but other than a few minor problems this movie was fun to watch.

I'm hoping it's good. As an old Simpsons fan, it needs to be better than any of the recent episodes because I have completely stopped watching them.

I liked it, it was funny. With the audience i watched it with at the theater, it made the film much better. They were ten times more engaged than any movie I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of big opening shows, i.e. Jackass 2, Borat, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR, etc. and this crowd's engagement topped them all. They cheered and laughed every time any little reference or character appeared.

Overall, the film was pretty good, I'm glad I saw it.

Yeah, I watched it yesterday. There were lots of hilarious parts, especially the first 10-15 minutes of the movie that were the funniest. I recommend you guys watch it because it's worth it. The whole audience was laughing throughout the whole movie.

i agree the movie started very strong, and near the end when it got into the plot it lost some steam but was still good, just the first 20 minutes or so was amazing

Just saw it. Once it got serious it wasn't as funny, but it shows you what the creators could get away with if the show was made for cable. The Bart skateboarding scene was probably the best part. I like that they blended the more recent type of random Simpsons humor with the early plot-and-lesson orientated Simpsons. I just wish it was a bit longer.

I saw it a couple days ago and I'm very pleased with it. It has plenty of hilarious scenes, especially at the start incorporated with a solid plot. It certainly meets my expectations.

I agree, that was one of my concerns going in that the characterisation and humour was going to be more akin to the recent seasons which I continue to watch but aren't up to the standard of the classic era. As it stood I was a little bit bothered by Homer's characterisation at times because he was a bit more selfish and boorish than he was first established to be but it kind of worked for the movie. However, the conflict with Marge and the "emotional" scenes were done much better than any of the recent "Homer and Marge's marriage is in trouble" episodes that have been absolutely done to death by now.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I guess we can speculate how good a movie might have been if it came ten years ago when the style of the show was different but I for one will be getting the DVD when it comes out. I'll be interested to see any deleted scenes (there was one with Reverend Lovejoy in the trailer that got cut), particularly if the Sideshow Bob scenes are there. That was one disappointment actually, that Kelsey Grammar wasn't in the movie. Albert Brooks did a great job in his guest role though.

i just saw the movie too, and i really enjoyed it, favorite part was seeing green day die! the plot was a bit weird, but they tied it in so good. Like homer went to the amusement park to get money to leave the state, and learnt how to ride the motorbike around the sphere which ended up saving the whole town.
everyone should have noticed, it was quite rude too!

I'd agree with that, I thought we'd see more of characters like Skinner and Krabappel. Perhaps they had scenes that were cut for time, much like Sideshow Bob's supposed cameo.

Yeah, I always liked that phony salesmen/lawyer they'd bring in every once in a while.

I did love it when the Newsman's face dropped when he announced the shortage of botox.
