Boy buys PS2 off ebay...receives box stuffed with $90,378

www.engadget.com/2007/07/18/uk-teen-buy ... es-44-000/

A young man in the UK got a serious shock when the PS2 that he'd won on eBay arrived at his home in Aylsham, Norfolk. The game system -- which he'd paid £95 for -- arrived without the two games promised by the seller, but with £44,000, or about $90,378. The boy and his family turned the money over to police, who are holding it until late September under the UK's "Proceeds of Crime Act" while they investigate the case. A spokesman for eBay described the situation as "somewhat unusual," while the boy was overheard mumbling that he "Would have rather gotten Gran Turismo 3." In related news, the cast of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels said that they would "Find that box no matter what kind of uniquely British hi-jinks are required."

He said he would've have rather gotten Gran Turismo 3 instead

He could've bought like three new cars with the money...
I guess you can expect something like that from a British kid. What an idiot.

Maybe the seller was Isiah Thomas and needed to create some CAP room for next seasons. 8-)

That's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

If he needed to make cap space, why would he be giving away money? Christ. :wall:

I don't think so, because he didn't find it. And, of course, nobody needs to claim it. The whole world knows that the money belongs to the seller. But if by some miracle he did, I'm going to buy a Gran Turismo 3 and try to trade him for the 90,000 bucks.

Kind of silly, to put 44,000 pounds in a box.... I could buy a new car with that much money, or pay for a couple semesters of college.

I think the seller was sending some drug money to somebody. That had to been the reason to send that much money and he probably sent the connect the PS2

one thing confuses me here, 90 grand in american cash is not a light thing. htf did a box that should weigh what, 15 pounds or whatever get through customs weighing twice that? htf does one ship a box without knowing the money is in it? he had to of known i mean wtf did you stick 90 grand in cash?

hmm rereading the story it looks like it was not american cash so maybe i am way off, maybe that 44k does not have much weight? also would explain why it made it through customs as it never went there lol. either way i am gonna stop going on now

:shake: ^^Smart guy.

Thats not even possible at all. The largest € bill is 500 €.That wouldn't bug me to much, but we are talking about pounds here (£) not euro's (€).

I would take the money and be quiet about it if I was the boy.
Its not like a policeman would come to my door knocking about some cash.

I didn't read the article, but I think he can buy a PS3 from the money he got.

Am I posting on the right thread?

Exactly. And from what I can remember the only British Pound bills are £5, £10 and £20.
So the minimum number of bills used is something like two thousand, not 44.

A 500-sheet ream of 20£ bills weighs about 5 pounds, so the total weight is 20 pounds. That's almost 10 kilos.
A videogame weighs 100, 150 grams at most (depends on the instructions manual's weight. The DVD and the keepcase weigh only about 20-30 grams).

So I second Sauru's question: How the fuck did that box get through customs?
