Rookie of the Year or Like Mike?

Rookie of the Year or Like Mike?

Postby jonthefon on Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:17 am

For some reason, I just gotta ask such a random question.

Both involves reasonably young stars, both involve sport, both involve acquiring a talent by a freak accident, both involve collaboration with a major league, both involve a greedy bastard trying to make money off them...etc.

Which one is better in your opinion though?

The answer is...

Wow, answer is a funny looking word.

They're both great guilty-pleasure movies. But they honestly suck.

Is rookie of the year the one where he breaks his arm and then can pitch lightning fast?

two straight hours of 'whoosh-whap' can't make a baseball movie (or baseball in general) the least bit entertaining.

Daniel Stern's greatest performance aside from Celtic Pride. That guy is such a douchebag. Where is he, anyway? Probably off somewhere in the same place Rick Moranis vanished to.

Celtic Pride was one of those great-yet-shitty movies, too.

EDIT: best basketball movie of all time: He Got Game. Yeah yeah, what about Hoosiers? I know, Hoosiers was ok, but I like He Got Game more. Denzel (Y), Ray Allen (Y), Walta! , hello Rosario Dawson's titties (Y) (Y) and no bad Spike Lee acting (Y)

The Rookie wasnt' bad at all.

It's still not bad if you combine Rookie of the Year and Like Mike together compared to it.

Damn it, I love Rookie Of The Year. Still got it on VHS.

In the doctor's office:

IMDB wrote:(once taken out of the cast, Henry's arm snaps around and hits Dr. Kersten in the nose)
Dr. Kersten: (muffled, with hands over his face) Funky, buttloving...!
George: Did he say "funky buttloving?"

And the manager calling him Gardenhoser at one point - there's some brilliant stuff in there. Not as good as The Sandlot, however.

Yes, funky buttlovin'! Classic line. The doctor was so fuckin' goofy looking...I still can't get over it. One of my favorite movies as a kid for sure.

Like Mike was disappointing. Have it on DVD though.

Agreed. He Got Game is the best basketball movie, although I also really like Glory Road and Hoosiers.
Coach Carter was okay. Enjoyable movie but not as good as the three I mentioned above.

Like Mike and Rookie of the Year both suck. Should be rated Y instead of PG since no one 7 or older is able to appreciate them.

I don't know why I posted this, but it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. I realised how similar and how stupidly they got their powers in both films, and I was looking for opinion.

Rookie of the Year is a lot better than Like Mike.

I didn't enjoy Like Mike at all, actually.

Like Mike was dreadful. I haven't seen Rookie of the Year but if it's comparable to Like Mike then I guess I'm better off.
