My monitor turns off randomly

Postby Lean on Sun Jun 10, 2007 5:07 pm

I have a four-year old CRT monitor. It turns off randomly since my brother used it early today. When he turned the unit on a few minutes later, the monitor suddenly went off. He switched the monitor off and then on again then it was back to normal. Then it went off again (am I getting to your nerves?) I'm thinking if the damage is on the CRT part itself, will this be fixed or should I buy a new one?

My computer started shutting down randomly also and it ended up with me getting a new computer.

That's an easy problem to solve.

Threaten to kick the monitor's ass. Ninja style. Works for me.

Check the cord in the back. It might be sitting in the power socket, but only just. Therefore any movement may cut the power out. That has happened to me before.

If it acts up again, check the refresh rate. It might be a cheap monitor that can't handle higher refresh rates for very long. I had a 19" CRT a couple years ago and a refresh rate of 60 always ended up hurting my eyes with the flicker, so I turned it up to 70, 75, or 85 depending on the resolution. It lasted 6 months.

If it's not the refresh rate or the cord in the back, it could be a dying power supply. I could be wrong, but one time my old computer wouldn't start back up, it was because of that.

My LCD does that sometimes. It is usually the power cord on the back being barely connected, but often (enough) it is not. It will just randomly go off, and I have to keep pressing the power button over and over for it to come on. It has been working better lately though.

I was thinking about that, too. I think that CRT's last for not less than five years.

I also flashed my katana sword before taunting the monitor.

I'm still observing the monitor if it would act gay again.
