Most Important Part of Basketball

Postby TRUball on Fri Sep 05, 2003 8:54 am

What do you guys think the most important part of basketball is?

I personally think that defence is the most important part of basketball, because if you can't defend, even if you have the best offensive force in the world, if you got no defence, the other team can just score on you. Plus there is always that saying, "Offence sells tickets, Defence wins championships."

well really there is no "important" one, the way i see it. if you lack in one area, and i mean really lack, then the team is doomed, in any aspect of their game.

most coaches will tell u itz defence...everyteam needs defence to win a championship....that's y Dallas will never win championship if they don't pick up their D...Dirk has to do much better for a 7 footer...unlike Dallas Sacramento,Lakers,Spurs does well with their defence..and Nets...Kidd excel on Defence useing steals and defensive rebounds to create most of their pts in the game..so if i have to vote for one i'd vote for Defence..

oh yeh i forgot, without cheerleaders, i dont care what team you are, you'll suck

but since i didnt really say what i think is most important, its the defense. If you had a team like the Cavs, for example. They have people who can score alright. However, they have a great defense, although they may not score that high, neither will their opponents :)

I voted for defense, but I'd say rebounding is up there too. After all, more possessions means less shots for the opponents, and more opportunities to score.

My coach tells me that 1 on 1 is the most important thing (he played and coached for a pro-team), it sounds selfish...but isnt that where most points come from? just scoring is the most important thing, why play defense while no one on your team can score?. U play D to get the ball right? but when you have the ball....thats when everything gets started..thats what I think

Scoring.

Anybody can Shoot, but that's oly half the battle. You gotta know how to score. So if that option was there. i'd vote for it. but since there isn't...i'll vote for shooting i guess..

the object of the game is to score more than the other team right?
it makes it a hell of a lot easier when you play DEFENSE, and i mean Ben Wallace, KG, Kobe, Artest, Bowen type defense, if you play like that your chances of losing are low even if you have trouble scoring
another overrated aspect is passing, working the ball around gets defences frustrated and more likely to risk going for a steal, and creating an opening, passing gets ya open shots and creates space, of course just passing the ball doesn't work all the time, its requires motion

IMO- being able to dictate the tempo of the game to your team's strengths/opponents weaknesses

being good at basketball helps too
