Yeah, I usually do that. I play on the wings and shoot when I get a good look. I'm not great at driving, I got a bloody nose and three bruises on my legs when I drove once. Harsh.

Anyway, yeah, if you can raise some eyes this year, you should be able to play a few games against big schools next year.

BEARS BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO EARTH BY RIVAL DENVER

The Northern Colorado Bears (1-1) traveled to Denver, Colorado for a matchup against their arch rival school, the Denver Pioneers (0-3), in what figured to be a good game, especially with the way the Bears had been playing in their first two games.

Unfortunately for Coach Watson, the Bears didn’t show up on this night as they were blown out 60-90 and thoroughly hammered in every aspect of the game by the Pioneers. Denver just kept on running and running, and the Bears couldn’t keep up.

After the game Coach Watson could be heard screaming at his player, “so you thought you were good did you?!? Well you really showed them, didn’t you?!?”

With the loss Northern Colorado fall to 1-2 and Denver climbs to 1-3. There will be a return match in Greeley next month where the Bears will hope to exact some revenge, or at least be competitive against Denver.

DUKE LAND TOP HIGH SCHOOL PREP

In another win for the Duke Blue Devils, they were able to get All-American PF Oscar Nardi to sign a national letter of intent to play for them from the 2007-08 season. Rated as the No. 1 high school prep player in the country, had it not been for the rule banning high school entering the draft, Nardi would’ve been a lock top 5 pick in next year’s draft. Now the Blue Devil faithful will get to enjoy this young man go to work night in and night out, at least for one season that is.


Can Nardi join the likes of other great Duke PF’s Laettner, Brand, Boozer and Shelden Williams?!?

In other recruiting news, the Maryland Terrapins and the Iowa Hawkeyes, of the ACC and Big Ten respectively, are both on their way to some of the best recruiting classes in the country. Maryland has already secured the signings of three All-Americans in C Scooter Brazzle (#12 in country) and PG’s D. Axton (#14) and Xavier Wallace (#23). Iowa has signed two All-Americans in PF Stalin Viegas (#17) and SG H. Hall (#21). Both recruiting classes will end up being scoops for both schools as they try to move back up to the top of each respective conference.

In local news, the Northern Colorado Bears missed out on prized recruit Kalem Fernandez, when he instead opted to sign for Southern Utah. Coach Watson will now be scrambling if he expects to find any top calibre recruits at this point.

BEARS FIGHT HARD, BUT FALL TO BEAVERS DOWN THE STRETCH

The Northern Colorado Bears (1-2) were finally at home in Greeley, Colorado for the first time this season as they faced up against Pac-10 school, the Oregon State Beavers (1-3), as they were hoping a bit of home cooking would make the forget about their dismal showing in Denver in the week before.

The Bears fought hard in this one, as they tried to come from a 26-33 half time deficit, and looked like they might get there, but the Beavers kept holding them at bay, despite the late efforts of Sean Taibi to turn it around. Unfortunately, the Beavers were too good on the day as junior PF Sasa Cuic broke the Bears back with a big time trey as the Bears went down 64-69. The Bears fall to 1-3, whilst the Beavers climb to 3-3 this season.

Asked in an interview after the game what they had to do to win these close games, Coach Watson replied, “we've got to keep playing hard, but at the same time, play smart. We are letting stupid mental mistakes cost us ball games. We have to learn to win games like these. It's on me as well, I've gotta have these guys believing in themselves again like they did in training camp and during the first week or so of non-conference play.”

they are solid teams I'm playing, not great teams though...

but you're right, consistency is an issue....I'm finding that 3 of my starters are alright (Taibi, Birden & Archibeque) but the rest are pretty much useless at this stage....I find the team starts games strong, but then the other team/computer always makes the necessary adjustments & shuts me down defensively & carves me up offensively....I guess it's just my bad coaching, I need to run better plays for the team....

at the moment, it is sad but true....the game is very realistic in the fact that if you suck, it's hard not to suck....I have played Colorado & guys like Richard Roby just do what they want against my team....but I won't change teams, unless I get an offer I can't refuse....but that requires me actually doing a bit better with the team I have at present....

BEARS LOSE CLAWS, BURNT BY THE SUN DEVILS

The Northern Colorado Bears (1-3) were back on the road, which is a common theme in their non-conference schedule as they traveled to sunny Arizona to face the Arizona State Sun Devils (1-3).

Unfortunately for Coach Watson, the Bears ran into a fired up Arizona State squad, who ran them off the court in the first half as the Bears trailed 26-43. The Sun Devils dominated the offensive glass on their way to a comfortable 20pt victory, 51-71. With this loss, the Bears fall to 1-4 overall, whilst the Sun Devils edge closer to .500 to a record of 2-3.

BEARS START STRONG, BUT FADE AGAINST TOUGHER AND MORE TALENTED ROBY AND BUFFALOES

The Northern Colorado Bears (1-4) continued their non-conference road trip as they headed back to the state of Colorado to try to reverse their fortunes against Big 12 school, the Colorado Buffaloes (3-3).

The Bears came out better on this day than they did in their previous game, as they forged a 34-27 lead going into the half. However, after the half time break, the Colorado Buffaloes kept coming and coming at Northern Colorado, and eventually, on the back of NBA prospect Richard Roby, managed to get ahead, hold off any runs and make their free throws as the Bears dropped another game, this time 56-68. What looked like an improbable victory for the Bears, was thwarted by the brilliance of Roby, who possession after possession down the stretch came up the big play. Coach Watson had this to say post-game, “Going into tonight’s game, we all knew we had to shut down Roby, and frankly for 32-33 minutes, we did. But once he got going, we just couldn’t stop him. I guess that’s what great players do.” With another loss, the Bears fifth straight of the season, the Bears fall to 1-5 overall, meanwhile Colorado moves to 4-3.


It was all about Roby on this night. The question for the Buffaloes is will he jump to pros at end of this season?!?

I got killed against Arizona State, but the team put forward a good effort against Colorado....we just couldn't keep with them....it's not helping that all of the games bar one have been on the road....something for me to remedy in scheduling for next season....

I guess when all is said & done, my non-conference play won't matter, it's what the team does in conference play & the conference tournament (provided I make it of course) that matters....

Arizona once again proved that it's reputation as being a factory for producing NBA-ready guards is true, as Coach Lute Olsen secured the signing of the top SG in the nation, and the No. 2 player overall. Next season, Townsend will likely join with freshman Chase Budinger and sophomore Marcus Williams to create the best perimeter rotation in the country.

BEARS GET SMASHED BY RAMS

The Northern Colorado Bears (1-5) continued their non-conference road trip as they stayed in-state as they battled the Colorado State Rams (2-2).

The Bears started the game well, as they have done for most of the season, as they took a 18-12 lead midway through the first half. However, Rams’ junior SG Tyler Smith caught fire on his way to 17 1st half points, as the Bears trailed 26-37 at the half, as they were outscored 25-8 to close the half.


After Richard Roby went off against them in the last game, the Bears were determined not to let junior centre Jason Smith do the same to them as seen by this sort of coverage that he received (see above and below pics).


In the 2nd half, the Rams just picked up where they left off, ending the game in a blowout as the Bears dropped their 6th straight game, 60-86. The Bears drop to a dismal 1-6 overall, as the Rams move up to 3-2 after an impressive showing.

ahh well, even if I won 22-23 games & won my conference title (not tournament & auto bid), then I still wouldn't get a bid to NCAA (maybe NIT) as my RPI & SOS stinks....it's all about the auto bids for small conferences like the Big Sky....this ain't the CAA or MVC....

cheers....the team is improving slightly, as you will see in the next few games....I'm starting to get more patient & a little smarter, which is probably just in time for conference play....

as for Big Baby, the 30.5ppg average was only for one week (or over 2 games), not over the season....although I do know he's playing as people expected him to play his junior year IRL....he's a favourite for All-American 1st Team at the moment I'd say....
