What trades have you successfully made with Live '05?

Just curious as to other people's trade stories. What trades have you successfully worked out on Live '05? What players were involved and what were the key stats (overall rank, salary, years left in contract)?

So you are aware it is against forum rules to double, and in this case, triple post. Please, in future, use the edit button to edit your original post.

Thanks.

That's fine :)

Just thought I would give you a heads up.

Some nice trades there. Looks like you're building a young team to reckon with.

Trying to, at least. While playing the games is fun, I like the chance to play GM. And as a NYer and a Knicks fan, taking apart the mess Isaiah Thomas put together is a real challenge. The real Knicks are set up with their best star at PG (Marbury), a good talent at SG (Crawford), insufficient size up front, and a tendency (until this year) to trade youth to get overpriced aging ex-stars. That's not how I like to see my team, especially in NBA Live. I prefer to have my star be at SG, with my PG being a great passer, dribbler and defender and with the ability to shoot accurately and hit the 3...my PG should be able to take over a game if needed, but tend to get the ball to the others on the team. I like my SF to be an accurate shooter who can take the ball to the net and who is decent at defense...3-point shooting is a plus. I like my PF to be a great blend of offense and defense...he can hit a 10-15' shot, is strong, takes the ball to the hoop well, rebounds and, if possible, blocks. My C needs to be strong, a great rebounder and blocker, and if he can score well, that's a nice add-on. My backups should be young and cheap, should be able to fill in for starters for 1/4 of the game, and should be skilled enough in key categories that they can develop into replacements for starters once the starters are good trade bait or are too expensive...good young talent should never be traded.

I think my team has shifted from the Isaiah Thomas mold into more of what I like in a team. J-Will is exactly the type of PG I mentioned...he can take over a game if needed, but does not demand the ball like Marbury. J-Will is fast, a great passer and defender and can hit the 3. Kobe is not only the star of my team, but one of the best in the league. Gerald Wallace can't hit 3's, but he is fast and can go to the hoop well...he also defends nicely. I am also developing his shooting and speed more. Okafor needs development in shooting accuracy, but he is offensively focused, is strong, can go to the hoop, and is an excellent defender and can give me blocks. Ilgauskas is too expensive and is getting older, but he is the complete offensive/defensive package at C. With Kapono, Ariza, Korver, Sweetney and Mihm, I have backups who meet my needs...they meet my skills qualifications, are young, cheap, and with Sweetney and Mihm at least, are tied in for a few years. I can also use Kapono and Korver interchangeably at SG and SF.

Now if I can just leverage Norris, Houston, Hardaway, and/or Mohammed into the same type of young cheap talent, I'll be set. I'd love to add a young PG like Banks, House, Pargo, Harris, Ford, Barbosa or the like, and a young C like Diop, Harrison, Kaman, Gadzuric, Dalembert, Hunter, Swift, Haywood or Ramos. Those are the focuses. If I can add youth at the other spots (Childress, Gordon, Petrius, Rush, Iguadala at SG; Josh Smith, Deng, Nocioni, Pavlovic, Daniels, Kedrick Brown at SF; Jefferson, Perkins, Biedrins, Anderson, D.West, Collison at PF), that would just be gravy.

I see you're from Australia....cool! Always wanted to go there. I have a cousin in Perth and my boss is from Sydney and spent 7 years in Melbourne.

harrington for grant hill plus change

Postby aussiesta on Fri Sep 14, 2007 8:49 pm

I wanted to get Al Harrington from Atlanta, in exchange for Grant Hill (I had it signed for Philly the season before, from Orlando) and as many spare parts as needed. I wasn't able to match any reasonable trade with my roster and the limit of 3 players per team and trade, but I was stupidly successful in a two-step trade: I first traded two rookies and a decent sophomore, a somewhat uninspiring package, for Josh Smith. Then, for half a season, I had a glut in the SF position, with two very similar players (Hill and Smith) competing for the starting spot. That offseason (after making the finals for the first time, and losing) came the second move: I traded Josh Smith (slightly improved in ratings from the year earlier) back to Atlanta, together with Grant Hill (slightly worse off), in exchange for Harrington. So the end result was: I obtained Harrington in exchange for the soon-to-retire Hill plus three spare parts, none of which had an average rating of over 54. Again, I was very fortunate to pull this one off.

Well, first of all, welcome to the forum. Second, you may want to take a little look at this, some trade tips provided by another member of this forum which might explain about your two-step trade situation:

You know how some teams shop players around to see if there are any takers? Well, I do something like that. For example, let's say I want to trade away Eddie House for a better backup PG. I scroll around the teams to see if his interest bar goes up in that team. If it does, then I look for a player higher in ratings than he, in this case Houston, with Scott Padgett. So I trade House for Padgett straight up and I get a 3 rating gain. But I don't need Padgett, so I shop him around. Turns out the Pacers need a SF, so I trade Padgett for Tinsley. There! I just got a 6 point gain with my two trades. I keep doing that until I get the player I want. Also, 3 for 1 trades are very good.

I had to completely change around my Spurs team after we lost in the finals last season.

1. I traded Devin Brown for DeShawn Stevenson of the Denver Nuggets (He wound up killing us in our first game agaisnt the Nuggets

2. Beno Udrih & Rasho Nesterovic for Josh Howard & Marquis Daniels of the Dallas Mavericks.

3. A No name for another no name with better 3 point shooting from New Jersey.

4. Brent Barry for Stephen Jackson from the Indiana Pacers.

In the end, I'm trailing 3 games to none against the Suns in the first round of the playoffs & they're the number 8 seed.
