Top 5.

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Top 5.

Postby [Q] on Wed May 09, 2007 7:12 pm

so I'm bored and I should be finishing homework considering it's 2 AM and I have to finish by 9AM when my class starts but whatever.
So this thread is to talk about random topics. Post your top 5 lists for whatever and discuss it. If this turns into another stupid spam thread where people just post lists and don't talk about anything, I'll lock it.

and I will get the ball rolling:
2 lists for you guys to start (preferably you guys will posts one at a time)

disclaimer: this is a thread for sharing of ideas and discussion and it's strictly opinion, so don't get your panties up in a bunch if someone disagrees with you.

Top 5 rappers
1. Tupac - I grew up on his stuff and living in Southern California, I still hear his music on a consistant basis.
2. Nas- His music is so polished, and his style is crazy. Sounds like he can be freestyling on some of his stuff when he's not... so smooth
3. Eminem- Many of you will disagree with me here, but I think he desreves this. now we're in an age where people are leaning and rocking and walking all over the place, Eminem always had something to say that made sense. His lyrics and wordplay is/was the best of his time.
4. Biggie - Almost as big of a name as Tupac.
5. Jay-Z - The biggest rapper out now that all the other big names are dead. Interesting to see what he's done with older songs and remaking them and the like.

Top 5 ice cream flavors
1. Chocolate chip - a classic. the best of both worlds: vanilla ice cream with pieces of chocolate in it.
2. Cookies 'N Cream - See above, except replace chocolate with Oreos
3. Most ice cream flavors with caramel in it - I love caramel.
4. French Vanilla - a twist on the plain vanilla, it gives it the plain vanilla ice cream a richer taste.
5. most ice cream flavors with chocolate candy bar pieces in it (no, not M&M's. that is gross, they turn your ice cream different colors of the rainbow)

Top 5 (active) Posters:

Cyanide
Drex
QBaller
Shadowgrin
Sauru/Indy/Axel/Shannon

Edit: Do I need to give reasons? Okay. Cyanide because I've never come across a post that I've had to skip of his. Well during the whole Legend/Mom jokes thing, but not since. Drex just makes me laugh. Always. Shadow is a sly bastard, I love him for his wit. Sauru/Indy/Axel give some good insights about basketball, I visit NBA Talk for them. Shannon..? Well he's sane, isn't that reason enough?

I don't eat ice-cream, not too healthy. :P

Lego Star Wars?? lol isn't that a kids' game???

and I heard COD 3 wasn't as good as COD 2.

My Top 5 (active) posters
Drex & Shadowgrin- they always got something funny to say. I agree with you here.
Shannon- maybe he doesn't post as much as he used to, but still I like that fact that he's sane too.
JaoSming- Simply for the fact that he seems to be the only one who still truly cares about Live at this point (until Live 08 comes out)
Matt- One of the very few "old" members left. mad respect for sticking around.

Top 5 gigs I've been to
1. Kanye West - The man puts on a good show. Simply amazing. Keyshia Cole & (unfortunately) Fantasia of American Idol opened.
2. Boyz II Men - A classic right here. This was only a few years ago with the "over the hill" Boyz II Men without Michael. Still very good singers, plus I was in like the 2nd row.
3. Lupe Fiasco - Not a bad performance at all. The opening acts were godawful no-talent ass-clowns, but Lupe did really well.
4. should be John Legend up at 3, but I didn't wind up going to that.
5. I'm embarrased that I have only been to 3 concerts in my lifetime.

that's what I thought until I played it...it's not that bad...until I played Marvel : Ultimate Alliance , it's a same style of game but the characters have better powers. Nothing like having Wolverine go berserk on robots with his claws :P

1. Nas
2. Royce 5"9
3. ____
4. ____
5. ____

Top 5 (active) posters:

Q - Laid back, funny guy. One of the very few people on here I think I could actually hang out with, seems easy going and easy to get along with.

Jackal - Never skip any of his posts, quick witted and a funny guy. The sorta guy that when you see that "Last Post: Jackal" icon thing, you check it no matter what.

maes - Love reading his posts, when I first started reading here I saw him as a benji type, really formal, smart and a deep thinker. Then when I read his posts more often I saw he's actually a funny guy.

Indy - Has sorta dissappeared recently, but another guy who's posts I never skip. Funny and laid back but really knows his stuff when it comes to basketball. I always love reading a diehard fan's posts for some reason. Still owes me for that sig!

Cyanide - Helpful guy, very patient. Always makes insightful posts that are worth reading. I beleive he recently became a graphic designer, which is what I want to become, so I sorta always paid attention to his posts. Cool guy.

Note: No particular order.

I know I'm forgetting people, but theres only 5 spots and I gotta headache. One guy that barely missed out was xbox360. He's like Karl Malone, always delivers. Even if it is a few days late and everyone already knows.

Heres one, Top 5 smilies on NLSC:

Lego star wars is the shit

Top 360 games for right now
Saints Row - Gettin me ready for GTA:IV
Marble Blast - It is just addicting
FIght Night Round 3
Homecourt
and Table Tennis.

Top PC Games
Flatout 2 - God I love this game, I think it is the best damn racing game there is.
NBA Street 07 - the only reason I continue to play Live 07. SUM made it good but I did something really special with Street. And if that isnt arrogant or make me full of myself, I dont know what does.
San Vice - Vice City in the San Andreas engine, 'nuff said.
Battlefield 2 - Best Stress Reliever there is. There is something about shooting someone, then blowing them up with the anti tank rocket, then humping the shit out of them when they can't move that just makes me smile.
Worms World Party - Just love it.

Top Basketball Games Ever Made
NCAA March Madness 2003 - Fine tuned Live 2003 engine, player expressions, more automatic replays with a sick Depth of Field blur effect, a FULL 3D crowd that does the wave (cmon the wave), real time shadows, great commentary, Great Bench Animations, first EA game to have diving, first to allow you to readjust in mid-air, first and only I think to let you break the backboard. Just an amazingly fun game.
NBA Live 07 (with Street mod) - somehow just throwing different dunk animations into the AIACT with some special AI made by pdub made this game great to me.
NBA Live 2004 (with MM07 animations) - As close to MM03 as I'm going to get on the PC. The new animations make it really fun, too bad I am not as familiar with oedit as I am with the ebo editors.
NBA Street vol. 2 - Cmon what didn't this game have? Chicks, legends, great gameplay, tones of customizable content. Best of the street series hands down.
NBA 2k7 - TONS of animations, I am still seeing shit that I can't believe (VC Elbow dunk in-game anyone?) However unbalanced gameplay and some Live 07 caliber glitches ruin it for me.

Top Songs for right now
Heart Shaped Box - The Crest - from the 2k7 soundtrack, just a good song
Ostrich Head - All Songs - Been loving these guys since I heard them on the Tiger Woods 2004 soundtrack.
City Hall - Tenacious D - Learning to play it on the guitar, too bad my 6th fret buzzes.
Future Sound / High Fidelity - Jurassic 5 - just a couple favorites.
Big Boi - I'm on it - great beat, nuff said.

That's enough for now

That's always been my least favourite smiley, it always seem to convey more arrogance than I'm sure was originally intended.

Top Five Simpsons Episodes

1. Bart's Friend Falls In Love (Season 3)

My all-time favourite episode from one of the finest seasons of the show. Good, simple story with great jokes and memorable lines, including one I'd say has to be a candidate for the best line in the entire series ("We started out like Romeo and Juliet, but it ended up in tragedy").

2. I Love Lisa (Season 4)

The definitive Ralph Wiggum episode, before he essentially became a one-joke character. Some of Chief Wiggum's best lines are in there as well ("Nothing gets chocolate out [points to stained trousers] See?"). Like most of the early seasons it had a really good down-to-earth story without any obtrusive jokes or needlessly wacky antics that some of the more recent seasons often use.

3. The Simpsons Spinoff Showcase (Season 8)

I've seen other Simpsons fans on the net criticise this ep for becoming the shows it parodies but I've never bought into that. The very reason this one is hilarious is because the parodies are so spot on; the private investigator/cop action series, the run of the mill sitcom with a cheesy premise (right down the poorly animated intro credits) and the send up of the Brady Bunch variety show that followed the original series.

4. Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie (Season 8)

Spot on commentary about the internet critics, some of whom in turn criticised the episode, as well as the trend of trying to appeal to a wide demographic by using a character that personifies just about every aspect of pop culture they can cram in. Notable for Comic Book Guy uttering "Worst. Episode. Ever."

5. Itchy & Scratchy & Marge (Season 2)

"Lemonade?" "Please."

Need I say more? Excellent commentary on censorship and scapegoating. The most memorable joke for me is probably the anti-Marge I&S cartoon featuring a Marge-like squirrel scolding "America's favourite cat and mouse team" at a baseball game before her head is hit over the bleachers to Homer's approval ("Take that you dumb squirrel! Heh heh...where do they get their ideas?").

I notice none of the newer Simpsons episodes are on this list...in recent seasons the show has really deteriorated. :(

Heidi was this guy from Estonia, horrible English speaker. His comments were so stupid it was abnormal.

He thought Bryant was a Horseface. (Magic too for that matter.) His insult was "You're a stupid piece of paper."

Homor/Humper was some Turkish guy who couldn't get laid, had anger issues and thought he knew everything. In horrible English.

4.Rashard Lewis- Always been somewhat of a Lewis fan going back to the days when GP was still in Seattle.
5.Chuck Hayes- I love the hustle.

Top 5 Movies
1. The Last Samurai- i like some of their philosophies in the movie and I've applied some to my own life.
2. Face/Off - may be a little corny, but was great back in the day.
3. Sin City- The ultimate "guy movie". Booze, broads, bullets, blood, and Jessica Alba.
4. Crash- A star-studded cast in a movie about the complexities of race relations we deal with today, with a good message.
5. Kung Fu Hustle- Asians! and it's rare to see a Kung Fu comedy.

Top 5 emoticons
1. -not too overused, so it's still great to see when it comes around.

5. Saints Row

Here's the top 5 that I have played:
1. Call of Duty 2 (I actually don't own it anymore, traded it in for COD3, which I haven't played much, & isn't as good as COD2)
2. NBA 2k6 (the reason I got a 360, this was good)
3. Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (highly addictive & a lot of family, gf, etc value....I'm looking forward to Lego Batman, that should be good)
4. NBA 2k7 (whilst it has more signature shots & looks better than 2k6, for some reason I had more fun playing 2k7, go figure)
5. Gears of War

For me, it was around Season 14/15 that something really didn't feel right about the new eps. A lot of people don't like the years Mike Scully ran the show and while I wouldn't say a majority of my all-time favourites came in those seasons I don't hate them the way others do. I'm looking forward to the movie but I'm not sure it'll be as good as it could have been ten years ago.

Speaking of movies (I know, such a smooth segue)...

Top Five Movies

1. Forrest Gump (tie)

Just a brilliant story. I've read reviews that have criticised his encounters with famous people through history as corny but I disagree. I guess it strayed from the novel a bit there but I like the idea of a somewhat slow but likeable character who gets to meet all these noteworthy people or involve himself in these important events in history, usually purely by accident.

1. Clerks (tie)

A fantastic movie and probably still Kevin Smith's finest. Anyone who has worked in retail/customer service can relate to Dante and the urge to be more like Randal. Like all of Smith's films it succeeds in being highly entertaining through the dialogue rather than pointlessly artistic camera angles/movements, special effects or action sequences. That's not to say Smith cannot or hasn't utilised any of those techniques, he's just a master when it comes to dialogue.

3. Planes, Trains & Automobiles

In my opinion, the greatest buddy/road trip comedy ever made. What else can you expect from two legends of comedy like Steve Martin and the late great John Candy? It's no wonder both comics dubbed it their favourite film of their own. Highlights include John Candy's mishaps in a rental car, the infamous hotel scene and Steve Martin being helped to his feet in a most painful manner.

4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

One of the top original teen movies by John Hughes, where the kids outsmart parents, school administrators and pretty much any authority figure who dares to stand in their way as Ferris lives out his perfect day.

5. (Reserved for The Simpsons Movie...hopefully).
