*raises hand*
I think I just spoiled the others' viewing pleasure.

A bit late on this one, but I saw 300 last nite, and that's easily one of the shittiest movies I've ever seen. Wanted to see what all the buzz was about, and I pretty much lost 2 hours of my life...
Even if I was putting aside all the historical aberrations and the fact that it's another insidious attempt for Hollywood to assimilate good and evil to particular races and ethnicities, even if it was complete and absolute fiction, this movie would still suck balls.
Cheesy lines, gratuitous gore, pitiful music, monsters and mutants, corny slow motion, it has it all...
Sorry for the rant, but this piece of crap left me pretty angry.

It wasn't based on history, it's mostly based on Frank Miller's graphic novel e.g. from a comic book. That's why it has "cheesy lines and gratitous gore".

It is loosely based on actual history, not only on Miller's work, I suggest this link to anyone who's not convinced:

I they wanted to make something historically(sp?) accurate, they would have made a documentary. This is a movie that's supposed to be cool, and that's it. There's no need for in-depth analysis like those links you posted.

I'm damn well convinced even if I don't click those links.
My head had been drilled with the story of the Battle of Thermopylae during 2nd year H.S. by my literature teacher.
I know the comic is loosely based on the history, but the film rather follows the fictional story of the comic book so don't be surprised if the film is a "historical aberration".

I wasn't expecting a documentary, and that's why I said that besides being historically incorrect, even if it was a pure fiction, I'd still think this movie is a piece of shit for the other reasons I mentioned above.
Thought this was the thread to give your opinion about movies...

I'm only giving an opinion about your opinion about a movie.
What's wrong with an exchange of dialogue?

Nothing wrong at all, I was expecting to be flamed for thrashing 300, so I guess it could have been worse.
Anyway, I did like Sin City quite a lot, but this one is just too damn corny for me.

Your paranoia greatly amuses me.
I'll watch Sin City with nothing more than that scene of Jessica Alba dancing.
Mon May 07, 2007 8:52 am
Nah, that's not being paranoid, but I'm glad I amuse you.

sin city = one of my favorite movies of all time. i have a feeling that one of the few reasons why i liked 300 was because it was similar to sin city.
Mon May 07, 2007 5:01 pm
I don't know, I didn't like Sin City that much in the beginning. I'd "gotten" it one night at like 3 a.m. and we (me and my two brother in law's) watched it after The Aviator. We'd expected something else, what we got is something else. So you could say that I was disappointed because what I got wasn't what I expected.
After a couple of months I watched it again and I liked it a lot more than the first time given I knew what to expect. It was still weird though. I am however looking forward to the sequal.
It's not one of my favorites, I prefer movies like Se7en, The Usual Suspects etc.
Mon May 07, 2007 6:28 pm
The Usual Suspects was pretty good... i happen to like movies that make you say "ohhhhh" at the end. recent movies like that have been Inside Man, The Illusionist, Lucky Number Slevin.
Mon May 07, 2007 7:00 pm
Yeah, same here. Those surprise endings make you feel so...satisfied.
I liked Inside Man solely for that reason. The whole movie was so so, the end though...hehe.
Mon May 07, 2007 9:04 pm
speaking of Sin City, I'm rewatching it right now for a 1000 word paper for a media violence class im taking. helloooo Jessica Alba
Mon May 07, 2007 9:44 pm
As much as i love her in that movie, i still get disappointed when i remember how the original role was written as completely naked
Mon May 07, 2007 10:43 pm
Watched Smokin' Aces, lets just say i'm on bad movie run and leave it at that.
Mon May 07, 2007 11:09 pm
What was bad about it?
I really wanted to go and see it for Ryan Reynolds and Jeremy Piven (who i hear are good in it) but they wouldnt sell me a ticket because i was under 18 at the time
Mon May 07, 2007 11:38 pm
I expected a whole lot more from Smokin' Aces. It had the potential to be great. (Think Snatch, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Layer Cake.)
It certainly didn't live up to my expectations, it was like a rushed project. As if the writers just got bored and decided okay, wrap it up like this. Sad, given the cast was quite strong.
Tue May 08, 2007 1:26 am
well i cant say what i didnt like because it would spoil it. But yeah the cast was fine and Affleck is in for a miniscule amount of time, but somewhere in the middle of the flick they got lost and forgot what thy were trying to do it seemd.

yes, so true. she won't show her body in any movie, which sucks.

I think it adds to her hotness. Some girls, when they've bared it all, the "ooh" element is gone.
I was more than content ogling her in Into The Blue.

.....YET....just wait for the right role and the right amount of dough, she'll do it

Saw Smokin' Aces last night. For the better part of it, I was entertained thoroughlly. There just weren't nearly enough clues, even retrospectively after the plot twist, that would lead anybody there. There were some akward parts to the movie, and the last 10+ minutes were pretty weak, but the bulk of it is entertaining for what you want it to be, and Piven plays his role very well.
Going to see Spider-Man 3 anoche.
