Interceptions

Postby Colin on Mon Sep 15, 2003 10:46 am

I just thought of this while reading about IsoMotion in ESPN Basketball. It said you can 'play the passing lanes.' That made it occur to me that I don't even remember intercepting a pass with a human controlled player. It's way too hard. Even if I'm standing right in front of a posting up player, the ball goes right through me.

I've done it before. Its all about timing and its rare. You gotta get infront or run infront of the pass and then put your hands in the air(like when contesting the shot.) You have to have a man behind the offensivce man so the cpu doesnt throw an alleyoop.

Out of all the years that I have spent playing NBA live, I have never intercepted a pass intentionally. I have done it only without notice.

I would try to intercept from time to time, but it's just a wait of your time.

Action games -- now that's something that has potential. :D

I'm just glad Lam acknowledge the fact that there were "velcro hands" in Live, he says it's been addressed--so I'll wait an see

There was nothing worse that the velcro hands and armpit steals in Live 2003.

That was encouraging. The velcro hands steals in NBA Live 2003 were extremely frustrating. Most of them occured with the defensive player being too far out of reach to even have a chance at intercepting the pass, and often when the defenders back was to the pass. Too many passes were risky, meaning working the ball around was too dangerous.

It seems to me the production team is acknowledging quite a few complaints with NBA Live 2003 - the high field goal percentage, the ease of scoring with Freestyle, the velcro hands steals, the exaggerated blocks, etc. And I think that's great. I think it should be good enough proof for people who say that EA doesn't care about their product and doesn't care about what the fans have to say that it's actually quite the opposite.

I hate the steals the CPU does when your posting up - the PG comes over to double-team your man but instead of playing D he just pushing you.

that makes me wanna uninstall the stupid game :x

Live 2003 was the first CPU based Live for the new team... They were already doing things in Live 2001, but they got to the project like late spring time (I believe...) and thius it was still the same old good stuff.

Now the new team has laid out their base in Live 2002 and 2003 and thus they are able to build much more effectively for future Lives... And this line of thinking is what makes me believe that Live 2004 will be better in almost every aspect to the Live 2003.

(As do the gameplay sliders...)

lol Especially when a player lobs a pass down court. The other player catches the ball withouot even looking back. That misdeamenor is one thing that I found so funny.

I actually thought it was a problem that I could intercept too many post entry passes. whenever the cpu's post player starts calling for the ball, I would just stand at an angle to him so that my back barely covers his position (definitely will not work if you're right in front of him). The passer will see no threat (because I'm not in front of him and also poor AI) and make a bounce pass inside, at which instant I'll repeatedly hit my steal button and come away with the interception at least 50% of the time. This was how the steal totals for both team would get unrealistically high, at least for me. :?

I get a lot of steals when I press take charge. Of course, I wasn't expecting it, and I chuck the ball downcourt. (Not always, and I sometimes make the shot, so I don't complain).
